The Hardcore DX mod changes many aspects of the game in order to make it interesting to replay the original story again and again. The goal of this mod...
This new renderer for Deus Ex aims to make it easier for NVidia's RTX Remix to do its magic.
Full DirectX 11 renderer, ideal for running the game at its best graphical capabilities and for maximum hardware compatibility.
Ever wondered how Deus Ex would play out if the main character was a regular greasel instead of a nano-augmented agent? Now you won't have to.
This is going to sound like an odd question, but is there a way to add normal maps to the lightmapper, so you can have directional light maps in UE1 to use with this improved renderer?
Hey there! I've been around in the DX scene for a while, played about 30 Deus Ex mods now, many playthroughs of mods and original game, tested just about every custom renderer, DX11, DX10, Vulkan stuff etc. And I did try out yours. Potential is good, but major issues tho, MAJOR issues.
GOG and Steam DX GOTY versions tested, no difference. i5 12400f + RTX 3060.
So -
* Full per-pixel lighting for static geometry. No more Gouraud shading or lightmaps!
* Using of physically based rendering principles (PBR).
* Using of High-Dynamic Range (HDR) rendering.
* Improved rendering of water surfaces.
* The right flashlight (finally!)
^^^^ All this stuff - works, and looks very good. But problem is - your renderer messes up A LOT of functionality otherwise.
Fullscreen behaviour you already know about. Colors menu - translucency stuff, it's all completely broken. It's permanently translucent and menu options in Colors menu don't work at all as intended, meaning in-game subtitles are without the black borders top-bottom, hardly readable. You can't see **** in the notifications and all that jazz, cause it's all translucent. Some weird texture behaviour at times, plus distant effects like smoke and lights are also messed up, they flicker a lot.
I'd highly appreciate much more customization in "Preferences" menu in-game, in the future. Like some antialiasing/anisotropic filtering options, perhaps changing the strenght of the visual features listed above. I'd very much say "do follow darknovis' D3D11 render" in this regard, that's the most comprehensive customizaion out of any renderer.
It looks good, has a potential to be one of the best looking renderer, perhaps one of the best running ones, but it's too broken at the moment to be used seriously, in my recordings (I do them a lot on youtube, whole mods). Which, to me, is most important in my DX installments.
Hopefully this is a constructive feedback, and you don't feel attacked. :D This got real potential, lighting is beautiful at times, very realistic. Good luck and do provide more updates!
Hi! Thanks for your feedback. I know about the translucency issues (and many other bugs not even mentioned in the comments) and I don't like it either. I'm currently working on fixing this issue and hope to fix the most annoying ones in future versions.
great mod! i love how it keeps the look of the original while also making it more modern. been playing so far with no problems, keep up the good work! definitely looking forward to new updates
yea im having the same issue, only mine is playable? textures are all messed up, and i can't fullscreen, meaning its all dark, admittedly i'm playing through GMDX so i dunno if basegame has better results.

they are messed up because the renderer doesn't work with new vision textures
yeah uhh fullscreening is completely impossible. launched it with base deus ex and everything worked fine, though, but uh not being able to fullscreen is kind of a problem
Try to run it with Kenties launcher and enabled option "Borderless fullscreen window"
Is this actually playable?
I tried installing it, and I can get to the main menu, but when I get in-game I have no belt items, I cannot move my character, and everything is way too dark.
Is this designed to be properly usable, or just a test? I'm fine if it's just for testing, it would just be good to know.
Also, when I ran it in Fullscreen via Kenties it ran in a fullscreen window (with a border). Pressing Alt-Enter to make it fullscreen crashed the game.
It should be playable, but so far it has been tested on a small amount of hardware, so some issues are possible.
Which version of the game are you using (Steam or something else)? What are specs of your PC?
