Roaring Knight Boss Guide
The Roaring Knight is the easiest secret boss to find in Deltarune - but it's not the easiest to beat. This boss pops up after Chapter 3's regular final boss, jumping straight into combat with a move set that'll test even the most seasoned of players.
Below, you'll find IGN's complete guide to tackling the Roaring Knight, including the main moves to watch out for and the rewards you'll get for surviving the Knight's onslaught. We've also briefly detailed what you'll need to find before the fight, but for more information, check out our prep guide.
How to Beat the Roaring Knight
Firstly, this fight is close to impossible without the secret Shadow Mantle item. While some incredibly talented players have managed to run the Roaring Knight fight without this item, we'd recommend putting in the work to find the item.
To get the Shadow Mantle, you need to:
- Get S Rank in both of the TV Time boards
- Complete all of the secret game rounds in the S Rank room
- Defeat the shadow mini-boss in the third round of the secret game
The Shadow Mantle is an Armor that provides +1 defense, plus an extra 1 for each finished chapter in your save file, along with a 66% buff to defense against Dark and Star attacks. We'd recommend equipping Susie with the Shadow Mantle.
If you have the Dealmaker Armor, it's worth putting this on Kris for the fight - it's one of the best defensive options available, and this is a fight where defense is crucial.
The main attacks to watch out for in this fight include:
- A barrage of stars in a purple light, followed by the same barrage in reverse. After a moment of the stars falling in reverse, they'll explode into projectiles. These stars look harder to dodge than they actually are - you can squeeze through the gaps without much issue. When the stars have reversed, look for the most open space on the screen to reduce the chance of getting hit
- Quick-moving daggers that'll line up with your cursor then slash downwards quickly. Find the rhythm and keep moving to avoid getting hit
- The attack box will get split in half by a red line, moving apart with projectiles that'll fly out from the gap in the middle. This can be a horizontal or vertical cut, but the projectiles will always stick to the same direction as the cut
- An incredibly quick carousel of swords that flashes across the screen, with a small gap in the middle to stay in. Watch the right-hand corner of the screen and keep roughly in the middle to give yourself enough time to react. The swords will stop after a while, then quickly forming a lattice across the screen. You'll need to get into a space to avoid damage
- The screen will get sliced with rotating cuts. The pattern increases by two after each pair of cuts - for example, there'll be two cuts for two attacks, four cuts for the next two, and so on, going up to eight. Stick close to the corners and keep moving
After the first round of these attacks, they'll start repeating but increasing in difficulty, with faster cuts, more projectiles, and less time to react. This is a boss battle that rewards practice and memorizing attack patterns.
Once you've taken enough of the Knight's health to turn their avatar white, there'll be a turn where you can heal up, followed by an immense final attack. The final attack is a full-screen version of the first attack, with stars spinning downwards, coming back up, then splitting into projectiles.
When you've defeated the Knight, you'll get the Shadow Crystal, along with a premium Weapon called the Black Shard, offering +16 attack and bonus damage against Dark-type enemies.
