God-Cursed: Demo
You were found as a newborn, clutched in the arms of your dead mother at the base of a tree. No family came to claim you, but the men who came to your rescue adopted you as their own and became the only parents you’ve ever known. Growing up in the village of Stonebrook, you never want for much, until the day you first fall ill. Life plagues you with a mysterious condition that no one can diagnose or cure. You never know when it will strike or if it will eventually kill you. Living between fear and hope as you age, you try to come into your own as an adult with the ever-looming threat above you. As years pass, your condition seems to improve, until a mysterious mark appears on your body and opens up new questions.
It appears that you’re marked for death with no answers as to why, and your only chance to survive is to go out and seek them.
Journey through the land of Iroda, a fantasy world where the gods have abandoned their people and magic no longer prevails as it once did. Something is brewing that may change this world forever, and you’re in the middle of it, though your role is a mystery you must solve. Wanted dead by some and alive for mysterious purposes by others, you just want to survive. With the help of a few friends, find the answers that you need, and make your choices.
Customize your character’s looks, gender, sexuality, and personality. Choose to pursue someone in romance, friendship, or as simply a means to an end.

Oswin Twinflower
[AKA: Yarrow] (he/him – gender locked)
A childhood friend who’s just not the same anymore. Once a free-spirited softie with a perpetual smile and a penchant for mischief, Oswin has grown into a dour adult. After he came of age, he slowly distanced himself from you. In the ten years since, interactions between you have been awkward or downright hostile with no in-between. He doesn’t joke anymore. He doesn’t smile anymore. There’s something lost about his eyes these days…
-Personality: despite that furrow in his brow that says ‘stay away,’ Oswin actually prefers being in the company of others, as he cares deeply for friends and family. He’s organized and thorough – valuing the predictable and structured, and being driven to always improve upon his skills. Oswin can also be self-conscious, hard on himself, and a bit insecure.
-Appearance: standing around 6'2"/188cm with athletic build, Oswin has black hair that is slightly wavy and kept to his ears, bright-green hooded eyes, and brown skin with bronze undertones. He has a firm squared jaw, which is often prickled with light scruff. Oswin most often scowls, even when he doesn’t necessarily intend to. He dresses in simple tunics with leather armor and boots, and isn’t one for frivolities save for a special tattoo & necklace hidden under his clothing. A few notable scars mar his flesh, each telling a story. His sword is always kept at his hip.
Zahn
(gender selectable)
A sweet and fun soul whom you meet along your journey. Zahn is just trying to fulfill their duty to their faith. They seek to help you in anyway they can, though there’s something torn behind their smile. Where did this fun-loving acolyte come from, and why do they look so sad when they think no one is looking?
-Personality: social and sweet, Zahn is enthusiastic and open-minded about most things. They’re incredibly flexible (in mind and body) and see possibilities in everything, being highly adaptable and skilled at improvising. Casual, warm, and always friendly and willing to lend a hand, they can make a very trustworthy companion.
-Appearance: about 5'5"/165cm tall with a petite build, wild blond hair and round blue eyes, Zahn has fawn colored skin with a rosy hue, and a dusting of light freckles with a touch too much wind and sun across their cheeks and nose. They appear a bit tired with slightly sunken eyes and a mite too thin with the lines of their jaw and neck a bit too pronounced – evidence of years of difficult living. If they grace you with a toothy smile, you may be lucky enough to see the slight gap in their front teeth. Zahn dresses in rough linen tunics, usually with layers to make up for how thin and hole-filled they are. They have a particularly ratty cloak that they seem to cherish.
Duri’naan
[AKA: Duri] (gender selectable)
A demigod to whom you owe a debt, they seem quite curious about you.
-Personality: charming and laid-back, Duri prefers their own company most of the time but readily embraces tight friendships, of which they never tire – though it is all or nothing for them, no surface-level relationship will work for long. They are perpetually curious and casual, having an air of cool confidence and a love for teasing, which can sometimes make them appear disinterested or cold. They are always paying attention, even if it doesn’t seem like it, and often understand others more than themselves. They can stress easily – especially when things stop being fun, be a bit competitive and too independent for their own good.
-Appearance: standing approximately at 5'9"/175cm with a lithe but toned build, Duri’naan has long and straight grey hair, and honey-brown upturned eyes. Their skin is a warm beige, lit up with a bright smile that sometimes shows off a little sharp snaggle-tooth. They bear a strange scar on the back of their neck and are missing a bit from the upper part of one ear. Duri wears simple clothing made from a single and very long swath of blue-grey linen, wrapped around them in such a way that you’re not quite sure how it stays up. They also hate shoes for some reason and are always barefoot.
Rūndis Lyreheart
[AKA: Rune] (gender selectable)
A serious and powerful mage with an oddly fervent dedication to the God of Destruction, Casimir. Though they are capable of wielding great power, Rune prefers to spend their days as a traveling bard – in part for the purpose of angering their mother. They might have you thinking they would not care about your plight, yet it couldn't be further from the truth. Below Rune's cool confidence that teases indifference, they have a nurturing spirit.
-Personality: Rūndis is an introverted day-dreamer who is curious and in search of deeper meanings at all times. Though they dream, they also have a rational side that comes with a penchant for efficiency and decisiveness. They tend to be calm and analytical, but are prone to anxiety especially in close relationships, making them seem a bit aloof or combative.
-Appearance: standing around 5'7"/173cm, Rune has shoulder-length curly hair that is all black except for a flash of purple on one side. They have almond-shaped purple eyes that are a testament to the magic that flows easily through them, and a beauty mark just under their right eye. They have a strong build and brown skin, wearing a stoic and serious expression that you wouldn’t expect from a bard. Rune favors fine robes and cloaks in colors that match their eyes, but only when they choose to stand out, otherwise they prefer common clothing. Tattooed upon their chest as a sign of devotion is the sigil of Casimir. They also adorn themselves with different types of jewelry.

This feels a bit nitpicky but I don’t understand why asking oswin to come to your birthday is seen as more of a romantic answer than just agreeing to meet him after it. Idk it just feels a bit weird to me since asking a friend to come to your birthday doesn’t seem like a very romantic thing to say, and the dialogue that comes right afterwards doesn’t seem to have a flirty or romantic tone to it.
Just played through the whole demo for the first time—this game was a delight! I really liked Zahn and thought I was gonna go for her for sure, but then Duri literally swept me off my feet haha. God, having her feed and take care of you in dog mode and letting you pet her and praise her before she suddenly turns into a hot futch with top energy? That’s the dream lmaoooo. No one else stood a chance after that! And then she literally picks you up and carries you to the shrine! And she give you headpats!!! And then she immediately gives up on flirting with the dude in the bar to come rescue us from the guard who was hitting on us? So hot. Nothing better than a player falling for you and committing to you. And then in Chapter 6 on the hill at night when I told her I wanted to sleep with her, and she asked to wait so she could make my first time special?! And then she climbs in through your window and drops a bag of strap-ons on my bed like a puppy showing off a favorite toy?! The perfect woman, truly. And the scene itself is peak with how she gently guides you through everything. I was very happy to accommodate her teacher kink lol. And then after when you ask if she’s seeing anyone else and she tells you she isn’t but she’s fine if you do, and then she’s like “hm that felt weird???” Yes girl! Get jealous over me! Let’s be exclusive!
I do kind of wish there was an option to just tell Oswin I’m a lesbian sometime early on so he leaves me alone lol. I picked “distant” with him every time I had the option but it felt like my character still gave him a lot of time, attention, and grace—like you have to both hang out with him AND spar with him during the Chapter 3 camping scene with him, Zahn, and Nathanael, while Zahn and Nathanael only have one required scene each. Also during that scene, your character is very kind about the whole key thing even if you pick that you’re angry and then that you don’t want to forgive him yet. I wanted to tell him he blew it and I don’t want to be friends anymore, and to remind him that I didn’t even want him to come along on this trip as a bodyguard lol. And then there’s a bunch of scripted playful banter after the sparring session and you automatically agree to do it more often. And you constantly have to stick up for him and play mediator whenever he’s being controlling about you or trying to play group leader—like all your options when Zahn gets her bad feeling about the clearing involve telling her to be more respectful to him, but why? He’s kind of a dick and he’s not the leader of the expedition, he’s just your bodyguard. He has no authority position over Zahn. Or during Chapter 5, when you’re writing to your dads, you have no choice but to let him come into your room and interrupt you—and then you even invite him to sit closer when he sits far away? Why can’t I leave him where he is, I picked “distant” on purpose haha. At least we’re allowed to be unenthused about the gift and to declare it’s specifically because we don’t like him, that was nice, but then we immediately are required to hear him out about his angsty decade-long emo phase instead of shooing him out of the room, and we can’t even call him out about making our curse all about him and his weird savior complex. I wish we could just let Aster shoot him lol, sure Aster also hits on us but at least we can roll our eyes at him and shut him down. Oswin just sort of acts creepy and possessive but refuses to actually ask us out for more than five chapters, so we can’t reject him and be done with it until super late in the demo. And when he tells us in chapter 6 about being jealous of both us and Emre, we’re forced to take his side—the most distant option is to offer “silent support” for some reason, instead of pointing out how toxic he’s been for the past 10 years and telling him it’s not our responsibility to help him get over himself. Funnily enough the one scene with him where I was 100% in his corner was when he finally does tell us about killing his sword master. I was very much on his side for that one, that sword master is fucked up and evil, but I broke character and chose the option to say I wasn’t OK with what he did just so I could finally lock out his romance route in the hopes that he’d stop being so possessive over me. And of course that’s when he finally hits me with the “I’ve been in love with you the whole time” for real lmao. If you had just said that several chapters ago I would’ve let you down easy and we could’ve been friends!
Of course Oswin’s actual unforgivable sin isn’t the murder, it’s that he just couldn’t stop clamjamming me lol. Like when I let Duri taste me, he stopped her and called her a dog (in a mean way). And then he cut her off when she asks if I’d give her a belly rub! And then he banged on the bathroom door when I’m showing Duri my mark! Like, dude, let me have this lmaoooo. You never had a chance romantically but if you weren’t such a weirdo towards me the whole game I would’ve at least done your friendship route.
Setting aside the ROs, the setting/worldbuilding and plot are both great. Zahn’s little bomb at the very end of the demo is spicy, too. Can’t wait to see where that goes!

You can to a point! Once you reach a scene where there's a lock-in event, you must choose definitively for that RO. Once locked in, you will not be able to romance the others.

Is there any difference in later dialogue options when selecting how you feel about a character? (Specifically the romantic and physically attracted options?)
There is. That choice dictates a lot of the interactions with the ROs (and sometimes how other ROs respond to each other). Zahn for example will only engage physically if the MC is a friend, romantic, or physically attracted to them. The RO actions and dialogue with MC will take on different tones if MC feels romantic towards them.

Also absolutely amazing chronic illness MC that made me feel really seen as someone who has flare ups but can be pretty self sufficient most of the time. I actually happen to be reading this with a slightly dislocated shoulder due to my illness and felt so ironic when the MC got one. I just need a grumpy guard dog swordsman to take care of me in real life too please? 😆 and a healer like Rune would not go amiss... nor would a ride of a big fluffy demigod wolf. Also, as a cult survivor Zahn warms and breaks my heart. Such amazing characters and world. Thank you so much. I love it.

I'm so sorry about your shoulder too! Also ironically, while writing that chapter, something went wrong with my own shoulder too! I just finished therapy and such and it's a lot better but I couldn't move it much at all for nearly a year.

It's a solid name for a cat! Nathanael's Shadow is a memorial for my own Shadow kitty who I lost suddenly while writing the beginning of this story. He was nestled at my side while I wrote the first 2 chapters. :3

If you're having trouble with any of the code, there are lots of forums you can check. The 'return to game' button definitely doesn't work, if I had to venture a guess it would be that you made it go back to the last passage instead of the last game passage (which I don't know how to do either, lol).
Yeah, it's whatever came with the template and I need to take a good hard look at it. I've seen the same issue in other IFs that used the same template, but some of them have fixed it, so I'm sure I can figure it out if I focus. (the focus and the time are in short supply, lol)

I lost my save file from months ago due to cleaning my PC but it allowed me to reread this story again and it's always such a delight to go through. Always so refreshing to come back to this story and read the adventure of our bedraggled cat MC and their wonderful friends and RO.
One thing I truly love about your work is that you write both romantic and platonic stories so nicely. Like, the journey with everyone isn't lessened just because you aren't romancing them and that platonic relationships are also cared and cherished. I really like that. It doesn't blot out a big part of their backstory just cos you didn't smooch them. More stories need to do that. Having to be there for Oswin platonically feels so wonderful to read. It's so nice and heartwarming, I love it so much. I hope the others too will get their own arcs as lovingly written (and deliciously angsty) as Oswin's even if platonically! Because I can smell soooo much plot from them and I've tasted some of it already and I am excited for more!!
Also, you don't know how much I was so happy to see the group getting a break from nonstop injuries haha. The MC would have been nothing but red and blues and purples if not haha! That was such a much needed rest for the poor platelets!
Now I must wait for further updates cos goodness gracious everything is getting so deliciously juicy! The plot thickens and yer cooking a very hearty meal for us! ♥♥♥ Now excuse me as I try to use this break to decide which route to take first, D's or R's then the rest xD

I don't even know how to react. When I first saw there were only six chapters out I assumed it would be a really short play through, especially considering the semi regular updates for the first to chapter. APPARENTLY I FORGOT WHAT SEVEN HUNDRED AND THREE K MEANT- I got SO MUCH MORE CONTENT THAN I EXPECTED and I'm SO FREAKING HAPPY ABOUT IT. Usually my angle in these games is to romance a bunch pf characters, but the moment it mentioned Oswin always being at the bedside when we fell ill I threw away all those intentions and said 'fuck it, we ball' and he became my number one.
Seeing just HOW MUCH story unravels in just one chapter is absolutely gobsmacking. This is genuinely, and I say this as someone who has played as many text based stories as possible, one of it not THE BEST ones I've ever played. (You get quadrupled points since this isn't an abandoned work lol)
I am so in love with all the characters and how sweet everyone is. I want to express I'm not typically drawn to emotion but during the key scene I started crying so hard. You have managed to get me so attached to all of these characters and gotten me to love them so deeply.
I'm horrifically and embarrassingly invested in this story and can't wait to see where it goes next. Also please let me marry Oswin he's literally my bbg I adore him so much and their cuter more intimate scenes had me grinning and kicking my feet like a kid.

OH MY GODDD. my situation isn't completely the same, i'm adopted too but my birth mother survived the birth. she was really young (barely turned 16 before having me, was sent to a mormon adoption center in another state to hide her pregnancy from school bc her mom forced her, she had to stay for months in that state) and the circumstances paint a suspicious picture about my birth father (theres a high chance he was her rapist) so i had the same kind of "ruining her life" worried. that scene was PERFECTLY done omfg

That one really hit for me even when I wrote it. As much as I put the MC through the ringer, it hurts me, lol. I think a lot of people get the feeling or are even told that they ruined this or that or did something wrong just by being brought into the world. The ending of Chapter 6?? Wonderful, outstanding, marvelous! Applause and finger snapping galore!! I'll always appreciate a good ol' fashioned cliffhanger (especially one so dramatic!).

hii just wanted to say i honestly really love this game! however, after coming back to it (i last played around maybe march 2025), my saves all seem to be missing..
it is a little disorienting to have to do the entire playthrough again (i don't quite remember my choices enough to skip to chapter 6), but i realise there's probably not much you can do on your end, and simply wanted to (politely) raise this up. if you have any suggestions, do let me know! again, thank you for your amazing work though <3
Hello dear! Glad you are loving it and I am deeply sorry about your saves. That is, unfortunately, the nature of the work-in-progress beast. Chapter 6, I knew for sure, would completely shatter saves because the game file itself wasn't the same. I had to implement too many corrections and tweaks to code for it to jive with the last version. I am trying my hardest going forward to keep the file the same and keep saves from breaking, but it just may not be possible. The skip feature will help, but I totally understand it leaving you in the dark. The other thing I want to add is a journal feature so you can track the story when you skip. All in good time, hang in there! ^_^

There already is, my friend, but it's only in certain moments where it can be reasonably coded for. The hookup in Chapter 5 with Jun allows for that, and the moment with Duri in Chapter 6 (the one with MC that has no prior experience). This option will be woven in whenever it is logical in future moments too. I try to keep things tangibly realistic with the setting and logistics of having the supplies on hand. The first hookup did not have this simply because it was basically a spice sample, and also a learning experience for coding, but I'm striving for flexibility in the spicy content where ever I can! ^_^

All jokes aside, it's been quite a while since I've found a gem like this and, so far, it's been pretty damn enjoyable. It's an interesting concept, not just being abandoned by the gods but cursed. Now, I haven't really gotten all that far in, but there's very little to critique. The storyline so far is beautiful and the choices aren't too stressful...yet. Very few grammar errors too. I shall add further compliments as I go. COMPLIMENTS. But, @Lunan, you are doing a beautiful and amazing job. Keep it up and don't feel too rushed to get out an update if you don't feel it's not up to your standards!

I just hit chapter 3 (I'm slow with this kind of stuff). JESUS CHRIST. I'm loving the little choices you get to make in regards to interactions with children or your disposition to certain people, etc., etc. You really don't see this as much as you'd think (at least not in my itch.io experience). Also, giving warning on the "steamy moments" is a good call. That was...surprisingly descriptive. Not unpleasantly, just...really bold. If I'm going to give critique on anything, it'll be purely on grammatical issues (that are pretty minor anyway). @Lunan, you could also make the titles to the chapters the transitions themselves rather than adding transitioning additional text, but that's neither here nor there. THAT PLOT TWIST AT THE END. I KNEW IT. DAMN IT, I KNEW IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS. Still, with my own, suspicions, my jaw landed on the floor. I am amazed, inspired, craving so much more.
Now, when it comes to my thoughts about the whole piece, since there are *many.*
I am impressed by how many characters there are, and how the author deeply cares for each character to have their own time to shine, whether you romance them or not. While at times, I've caught myself thinking about how much I wished I could skip over some interactions and get to Oswin again, I am grateful they were all there. The favoritism is clear, but I easily push it aside, as each story line for each character had managed to captivate me regardless.
for the record, I chose the male version for every character. (Had to get that MLM content for the main character <3)
Zahn isn't the type of character I typically get very curious about, but his story and development intrigued me. He's a character with so many layers to him, and that's exactly what struck me right into my heart. I love complex characters more than anything in storytelling!
Oswin... He had my heart from the start, dammit. I go weak for characters such as Rune-and that's exactly whom I'd go for usually, but-! I couldn't. Not when my biggest weakness is that 'best friends-to strangers-back to friends and eventually' lovers trope. I've deeply enjoyed the slow burn, even if each time I thought that barrier, that wall that Oswin had built up, would finally be broken and it wasn't, I might have plotted a violent act against the screen of my own phone, as if it was its fault. When it finally did happen, though, my heart was broken and mended all at the same time. While I'm cautious about, and certainly don't want, this relationship going down the "I can fix him" path, I love this guy so much. While the main character can help him heal, I only genuinely hope he can learn how to be happy by himself, without the need to rely on the MC. (Just like the wolf/dog fortune card warning said.)
Duri'naan is hilarious and I love him. I can see he also has many, *many* issues to be resolved, but the way he's willing to put so much on the line to help the MC even as a friend is heart-warming. I also love the type of character he is, with that braggy sass and charisma of his, hiding many softer parts that the MC knows about but has enough grace not to point out for Duri's comfort.
Rune, like I said before, is exactly the kind of character that would usually steal my heart-and he still did, in a way. At least in the beginning, he really reminded me of the Sorcerer from 'A tale of Crowns', in that way. Of course, not exactly-the closer the MC got to Rune, the more differences I saw between him and Rezan. Still, I think he might secretly be my favorite character, or the one to whom I can see myself most drawn towards. (He also got many bonus points for being very purple-themed... It's my favorite color, too!) The charismatic bard with a very clear understanding of his own boundaries and limits-i love that. From the outside seeming as the type to only be there to be pretty, while in reality being extremely powerful-god, that part really gets me. (That's the part that has really struck me with Rezan, too. I really damn love it when pretty ones are one of the strongest, too.) In general, I love him a lot-his design, his personality, his powers, his nerdy speeches, the pieces of his story I got... No notes. 10/10. Love him so much.
Now, when it comes to Aster, I do not have many thoughts about. I remain cautious, can't really say I trust him, but I can see how useful he is to the party. I appreciate the purpose he serves and the way he was written-that's something I can see no matter how I feel about a character of their actions. Do I half expect him to have a betrayal arc at some point? Maybe, but that doesn't matter. Either way, I'm invested! Story is always at the top of my priorities, even if it means the main character doesn't end up getting what they want. What matters is the way it had all been told.
I really appreciate the way the things from the sidelines had been weaved into the story. Such as the possible one-night-stands or episodic characters. Sure, those doesn't exactly impact the story, at least not strongly, but the possibility to partake in them makes you really feel like there's more to the world than what happens to the MC, than their main journey. The choice even being there a nice reprieve from the serious main plotline, even if one was to pass over the opportunities entirely. The fact that they're there either way means a lot for the immersion!
I love how careful the author is being with the trigger warnings and limits. A lot of the options seem similar, one could even deem them unnecessary-after all, what difference does it make if one is okay with a simple kiss on the lips or not, if the character is taking part in an intimate act anyway? Except, it does. It makes a huge difference for some. That might not be everyone, but to some it does, and that's what shows just how much the author cares for the reader's comfort. The way the player is asked multiple times about their boundaries with each character, about their MC's feelings about them, about their relationship... It's refreshing. The author didn't have to include many of the options (Such as, in the part where Oswin confessed, there's the 3 options about how to react. Whether to kneel and hug, kneel and put your hand on his back, or simply kneel nearby.), but they did. It really helps with immersion, again, knowing that there's options even with slight differences, so you don't have to settle for an option that feels 'close enough' to what your character does. Of course, you can't predict each and every option-much less write an outcome for every single solution each time-but even more than two options is a great effort. One much appreciated.
At the end, I'd like to mention how much I love the way the 'curse' itself is described. The MC is strong, but still dependent and at a constant disadvantage because of how sick they get. Many times, I've caught myself a bit frustrated. I thought: "Damn, I really want my character to be seen as independent! I don't like how Oswin constantly coddles over them and has to protect them. I want the MC to sometimes return the favor, not need it constantly!" And then, it hit me.
That's exactly the point. That is *the point.* The MC is not weak. They don't want to be this way. They get frustrated with their helplessness, they crave to be able to get up on their own, they crave to show their resilience.
That. Is. The. Point.
As a person with no chronic illness of my own, I deeply appreciate the stories that help me understand the issues of people different than myself. Some struggles of others are ones that I will never experience, never understand in a way they would, so such a way of learning about such issues-through leading through a story of a character suffering from them-is one I value greatly.
Thank you. Thank you for writing this, thank you for working on this. I am excited to learn more, to read more, to continue discovering more and playing through the story. Can't wait for chapter 7. Great work, Author!
