After the earthquake and tsunami occurred in Chile on February 27th 2010, the Technical University Federico Santa Maria was asked to contribute with reconstruction proposals for the commercial infrastructure destroyed in the town “San Juan Bautista”. Located 600 km (~370 mi) away from the continent, this town is not just the home of several endemic species, but is also located next to a National Protected Area and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Within this context, the design problem consisted on the development of a component-based strategy and prefabrication requirements, and to reduce to the minimum the implied logistics and environmental impacts of the new buildings. With a Studio of 23 final year students and the support of the Architecture Firms Association, 11 projects were developed using digital tools such as visual programming and digital fabrication. Finally, technical documentation was produced and delivered to the local and government authorities.

In response to the lack of common formats for documenting automatic test information, the Naval Air Systems Command led the creation of the Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML) to standardize the documentation and reporting of automatic test information. ATML defines classes that represent automatic test system (ATS) components, such as test description, test results and instrument description, and the interoperability between classes. As an emerging standard, ATML classes have different levels of definition and adoption. One of the most adopted classes in the ATML standard is Test Description (TD). Organizations are expecting the adoption of the ATML TD standard to reduce the development and maintenance costs for test program sets (TPSs). ATML TD documents describe the types of measurements an ATE must perform but not the way the ATE must perform them. Translating an ATML TD document to a TPS consists of defining the necessary instrumentation, switching, and software automation. Manually translating an ATML TD to a TPS requires significant time and effort. In contrast, automatic translation methods can reduce development time. This paper discusses a method for translating ATML TD documents to a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) test executive, a graphical programming language, and ANSI C. It also examines how ATML TD constructs such as test group, test action, test name, and behavior can be mapped to constructs in the COTS test executive and programming languages. As the industry continues to adopt additional ATML standards, TD translators will be able to further automate the generation of TPSs. With the goal of catalyzing future work in the area, the paper closes with a proposal of how to improve a translation from a TD to a TPS with the information in other ATML standards such as Test Configuration, Test Station, UUT Description, Instrument Description, and Test Adapter.

In the last decade the design process in the AEC industry was strongly influenced by new tools, which are based on the method Building Information Modelling. Shortcomings like the lack of suitable computational approaches available for designers and engineers were identified. Several textual programming approaches for automating tasks have failed due to various reasons. The success of Grasshopper has highlighted the demand for tools, which can be used by non-programmers but still have the ability to create algorithms for multi-criteria design optimisations. Several software manufacturers have started to offer graphical programming tools in the last years. Thus the promising graphical programming tool ‘Dynamo’ and its usage have been studied in detail. Therefore a survey about Dynamo was conducted and evaluated and compared with the findings from existing literature. The research presents technical details about the software and possible future developments. The results show a clear acceptance by non-programmers and also areas for improvement. Overall Dynamo has proven to be a suitable approach for the BIM design workflow by reducing labour time, better quality assurance, and by supporting interoperability of software.

Özet Ülkelerin müfredat programlarında programlama eğitimine ağırlıklı olarak lisans düzeyinde yer verilmektedir. Ancak son zamanlarda, özellikle gelişmiş ülkelerde, yazılımı sevdirmek, öğrencilerin programlama becerilerini geliştirmek ve bu sürece öğrencileri daha erken yaşta başlatarak programlama eğitimini daha geniş bir alana yaymak amacıyla birtakım düzenlemeler yapılmaktadır. Bu süreçte bazı ülkeler, ilköğretim müfredatlarında yer alan bilişim dersi içeriklerini güncellerken, bazıları ise ilköğretim müfredat programına çeşitli kademelerde programlama derslerini ilk kez dâhil etmektedir. Bu kapsamda bu çalışmanın amacı, ülkelerin programlama eğitimine müfredat programlarında nasıl yer verdiklerini ve ülkeler arasında programlama eğitimi açısından oluşan farklılıkları ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda bir alanyazın taraması yapılmış ve 10 ülkenin (İngiltere, ABD, Güney Kore, Hindistan, Estonya, Avustralya, Fransa, M acaristan, Çin ve Türkiye) ilköğretim müfredat programı incelenmiştir. Yapılan incelemelerde sayıları giderek artan birçok ülkenin eğitim müfredatlarında programlama derslerine yer vermekte olduğu ve bu eğitimlerin bazı ülkelerde anaokulu seviyesinde verilmeye başlandığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca kullanılan programlama dilleri ve öğrencilere kazandırılmak istenen beceriler açısından da farklılıklara rastlanılmıştır. Abstract Programming education is mainly given at the undergraduate level in curriculum programs of countries. However, recently especially in developed countries, some arrangements have been made with the aim of enjoying software development, improving students' programming skills, and spreading programming education to a wider area by launching students in earlier ages. In this process, while some countries are updating the content of their informatics lessons, the others include programming lessons at various levels for the first time in the primary education curriculum. In this context, the goal of the research is revealing how countries have involved the programming education into the curriculum and shedding light on the differences between countries in terms of programming education. In this direction, a literature review has been made and the primary education curriculum of 10 countries (England, and Turkey) has been examined. It has been found that many countries allow the programming lessons in their curriculum and these trainings have started to be given in kindergarten level in some count ries. In addition, there are differences in the programming language used and the skills required to be acquired by the students.

Software engineering research and programming language design have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship, with traceable impacts since the 1970s, when these areas were first distinguished from one another. This report documents this relationship by focusing on several major features of current programming languages: data and procedural abstraction, types, concurrency, exceptions, and visual programming mechanisms. The influences are determined by tracing references in publications in both fields, obtaining oral histories from language designers delineating influences on them, and tracking cotemporal research trends and ideas as demonstrated by workshop topics, special issue publications, and invited talks in the two fields. In some cases there is conclusive data supporting influence. In other cases, there are circumstantial arguments (i.e., cotemporal ideas) that indicate influence. In this study, psychological perspectives are used to discuss the emotional impact of music. The main aim of this research is to define a set of compositional elements that can influence, in a predictable manner, the emotional state of the listener. Those elements are then applied to a compositional method used by a digital instrument which are programmed for this experiment to generate music patterns based on the emotional impact the composer wants to create. To succeed in this, the findings have to be subjectively tested using self-report analysis and through data collection translated into more objective data. The resultant instrument represents a strong compositional tool offering more clarity and universality, with a new language for compositional purposes based on the emotional character of musical elements, which can be similarly interpreted from different listeners perspectives.
To achieve this, elements biologically connected to our emotional system need to be defined, selected, and tested individually with appositely designed surveys, whereas  the results are essential to define the correlation between the different elements of the digital instrument programmed with Pure Data. Once the determinate of the correlation between the elements has been identified, the instrument should be able to contextualise the elements previously tested individually and provide a more natural and powerful controlled emotional impact on listeners.

Computational thinking stands out as a new approach to solving problems in the
contemporary world. And is characterized by go beyond the mental processes, it
involved attitudes and values that brought together form the skills so necessary for
everyday tasks increasingly computerized. As computers become indispensable
resources in aid of the professional human activities, it is necessary to prepare new
generations to exercise that dominance, and the Introductory Programming is a
gateway to this as it also contributes to the development of skills from the
computational thinking. This work tries to understand this relationship investigating
learning introductory programming with the Code.org platform and the development of
computational thinking in middle school students. For this we conducted a case study
on the platform to identify the skills promoted in students through the activities of
programming in blocks or Visual Programming, was also carried out an experimental
test in a programming workshop to identify what skills students have developed. The
results of the case study showed that there is a set of computational concepts and
practices promoted in programming activities in Code.org platform which can be
understood as a computational thinking skills. The result of the test applied in the
workshop demonstrated evidence that students can develop and extend these powers
after the teaching of introductory programming, but there is still a need for more
research to deepen knowledge and reach conclusions on how and what skills are
developed in this relationship.

A strategy for adaptive control and energetic optimization of aerobic fermentors was implemented, with both air flow and agitation speed as manipulated variables. This strategy is separable in its components: control, optimization, estimation. We optimized parameter’s estimation (from the usual KLa correlation) using sinusoidal excitation of air flow and agitation speed. We have implemented parameter’s estimation trough recursive least squares algorithm with forgetting factor. We carried separate essays on control, optimization and estimation algorithms. We carried our essays using an original computational simulation environment, with noise and delay generating facilities for data sampling and filtering.

Our results show the convergence and robustness of the estimation algorithm used, improved with use of both forgetting factor and KLa dead-band facilities. Control algorithm used in our work compares favorably with PID using the integrated area criteria for deviation between oxygen molarity and critical molarity (set point). Optimization algorithm clearly reduces energetic consumption, respecting critical molarity. Integration of control, optimization and adaptive algorithms was implemented, but future work is needed for stability. Methods were defined and implemented for stability improvement. We have implemented data acquisition and computer manipulation of air flow and agitation speed for actual fermentors.
