Origin

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Richard Owen (1804–1892), comparative anatomist and palaeontologist. From scientific Latin Labyrinthodon, former genus name from ancient Greek λαβύρινθος + ὀδοντ-, ὀδούς tooth; compare note at glyptodon.
