It’s not an easy task, but Cyberpunk 2077 manages to do justice to the hype level it created. Yes, we would like a more extended main campaign and, of course, we cannot ignore the large number of bugs. Nevertheless, CD Projekt RED created the most detailed urban settings we have ever seen, with a cyberpunk aesthetic that is beyond match.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a celebration of the entire medium, marrying cutting-edge technical innovation, unrestrained user agency in an authentic and immersive experience that transports you to another universe. No game has executed on the promise of gaming like Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt RED's artistic achievement cannot be overstated…Despite an impressive array of bugs and glitches, Cyberpunk 2077 remains an experience without peer. No punches pulled, no platitudes are given, and no compromises are made. Cyberpunk 2077 is an industry highpoint that, simply put, may never be bested. Right now, and without hesitation, I am overjoyed to say Cyberpunk 2077 is everything I've ever wanted from a game. It is the best game I have ever played.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a wild journey within an incredibly fascinating setting; some technical uncertainties destined to disappear and a partial repetitiveness limit its glory, but overall it is an adventure worthy of William Gibson himself. Cyberpunk 2077 allowed me to finally feel immersed in that pen & paper RPG I discovered in 1988, pouring rain clouding my view in a kaleidoscope of neon signs, just as I had imagined while leafing through those pages. Some may not consider it a perfect game, but I do.

If you search long and hard, you can name ten things that are not good about Cyberpunk 2077. But this game offers ninety good things in return. The fact that I absolutely want to go for a second, totally different playthrough and a hopefully "better" ending is just one of them. This is a textbook example of how different ambitious elements have been assembled into one well-oiled Ghost in the Shell machine, including soul. It's that The Last of Us: Part 2 left such an impression that Cyberpunk 2077 isn't lonely at my personal top of the year.

Cyberpunk gets a lot of hate for it's development process. But it's truly a stellar game with some release bugs. It just needs a little spit and polish.

Once you understand that Cyberpunk is "just" an open world RPG, you will see that the once mythical promise of next-gen gaming is nothing more and nothing less than a very enjoyable buffet of thrilling missions with highly competent game systems. Cyberpunk 2077 offers nothing we haven't seen before, except for the fantastic graphics. Keanu Reeves' character Johnny Silverhand takes the main story way above the middle ground, and the freedom to take on any mission to your liking is well worked out. Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 is "just" a very good RPG.

Cyberpunk’s running time is littered with familiar problems and zero interest in their solutions. It’s a design cluttered with the failings of a hundred other designs. The safe and familiar failings of the medium that can’t be pinned to CD Projekt specifically, but are nevertheless embraced with something that feels like enthusiasm. So I sigh and carry on to the ending of my choice, looking in vain for the actual cyberpunk in a sprawl of contrived and bland sci-fi.

Sure there are plenty of side missions and interesting gigs, but this game stinks of cut content and ideas. I had almost convinced myselfSure there are plenty of side missions and interesting gigs, but this game stinks of cut content and ideas. I had almost convinced myself after an unhealthy 80 hours.

The issue is they clearly cut a lot from the game to make the date. Here are the main issues from someone who pre-ordered, loved the Witcher series and really wanted this to work:
    1. The city feels vapid and empty despite NPCs - they just wander up and down - the same fat guy with the waddle with different clothes, the guy with an itchy shoulder with different clothes. The same gangs, in the same areas. The police who appear out of thin air, but also lose interest within a block of drivingrunning.
    2. Sure a lot of houses you entered in TW3 were samey, but at least you could go in them. In CB2027 you simply cannot go into many buildings in the city, you are kept almost exclusively on the street until a particular mission. The lifts in buildings only go to the floors related to your current mission.
    3. There is no real progression of my character, other than some stats. I cannot upgrade my apartment, or move. My car is what I buy or get as a reward - no customisation at all . Even with Roach I could add a new saddle, trophy...
    4. They didn't keep the mechanic from TW3 where the character you are following will match your speed. You either are slowed to a walk, or if you break out of the "envelope" they run after you!
    5. You jog everywhere, you cannot just walk, which makes point 4 weird!
    6. It is clear that the more open nature of missions was cut from earlier demonstrations - remember Meredith, they showed you scouting it out with Jackie - which makes more sense with the conversation with the guard about whether you are alone.
    7. Sick of the breaching mechanic after the 50th time.
    8. 90% of conversation options have zero effect on the outcome, and in many cases how they respond to you.

Bugs aside, I was looking forward to this game and feel severely let down. Despite having had a fair chunk of time playing it and enjoying some of it, it still feels like a poor facade for what the original intent promised.
