Established in 1986, the Arthur C Clarke Award is given annually for the best science fiction novel published in the UK the previous year.
The award began with a grant from Arthur C Clarke himself, with the aim of promoting science fiction. It is currently administered by the Serendip Foundation.
Winners are chosen from a shortlist by a panel of judges who include of critics, fans and writers.
