More on all things Zigi later, but first we must raise a toast to the convivial, family atmosphere that was the English Riviera Congress, brilliantly run by Plamen Sivrev.  Yes, Saturday’s play was discombobulated in parts, and a few were deprived their dinner and had to play reduced matches, but all was well in the end, and Sunday ran clean as a whistle, finishing at 1753hrs, ample time for your lithe reporter to scamper a kilometre for the 1800 to Paddington. Last week, the UKBGF blog published my article ‘Part 1: My Yearly Pilgrimage to the Mecca of our game’. There I laid out the logic for upholding our traditions as a community by keeping the World Championships of Backgammon in Monaco and coalescing around a consistent format with an ever-increasing prize pool, so as to gain sponsors, media coverage, new players, and prestige.
