Sonic: Into, Across and Beyond! (sometimes abbreviated to IAB!) is a Sonic the Hedgehog Film Fic by Pico Digital Studios over on Tumblr
. It roughly retells the Spider-Man: Spider-Verse trilogy (alongside some other stories) with the crew of Sonic the Hedgehog and its various fanworks, mixing written posts and sprite mockups to tell the story.
The plot begins fairly similarly; after Sonic of the OMT universe bites it after killing Sonic.OMT, his Tails (dubbed "OMT!Tails") steps up to protect his world in his steed, battling some new foes and more with help from Sonic's alternate selves and various new faces from a now-opened multiverse. And as his journeys go on, he learns what it takes to be a hero within the Sonic multiverse, for better or worse.

Tropes:
- 420, Blaze It / LOL, 69: In the last mockup discussing the (unofficial) game ideas for IAB!, the ring capacity is at 420 rings maximum, and the timer is shown to be at 69 milliseconds.
- Acceptable Breaks from Canon: Supplementary material for Superstars states that the Emerald Powers introduced in that game are only able to be tapped into at the Northstar Islands. IAB! ignores such a rule for the sake of allowing any holder of a Chaos Emerald to make use of these powers regardless of universe, even if all seven aren't in their immediate possession.
- Adaptation Deviation: Several changes are made to flesh out the storyline more for IAB!.
- For starters, the hero of the main protagonist's dimension passed away before the Into story equivalent even gets started, the extra role for Blond Peter instead being filled by Detective Ghost / Kaede Titan.
- Because OMT!Tails is already a respected member in the community, he's welcomed with open arms into Bumper High School, and despite clear anxiousness about the new place (which Ms. Ciprianni picks up on), he doesn't take long to settle in.
- CR!Sonic's accidental meeting with OMT!Sally (and subsequent awkward conversation), alongside EX!Alice facing the brunt of Surge's attacks before being saved by Mr. Needlemouse, happen earlier on in One More Hero, and are thus left out of the final battle. Instead, the Blur Gang (sans OMT!Tails) confront Johnny on their way into the gala in a recreation of one of the Into deleted scenes, and during the final battle, EX!Alice makes sure not to make the same mistake again when facing down Surge in a direct rematch.
- As stated under Adaptational Sympathy below, the Quill Society are not inclined towards The Stations of the Canon, meaning they're not up to letting an innocent kid die at a monster's hands, save for a select few led by a rogue member. Said rogue member is the one instead being chased down by the Quill Society in full force to buy OMT!Tails and Superstars Amy a chance to put a plan into action in Many More Heroes.
- Adaptation Expansion:
- Whilst the original Spider-Gang consisted of ten members, the Blur Gang consists of at least eighteen, including several roles that weren't initially filled in.
- With the above, the "one last time" summaries for each hero are expanded upon for different characters, to the point that it's a full-blown Running Gag spanning multiple stories. Of these, Trip lacks her own summary.
- Alongside the Shatterverse having developed into its own locale, several AU ideas by fellow Tumblr user Son1c
were picked out to expand upon what Sonic Prime had given viewers, including new Shatterspace counterparts of Sonic, Shadow, Cream and several others, and even a brand-new Shatterspace utilising the Playing with Fire and An Ice Person tropes in its design. - The plotlines are expanded further beyond what their original stories entailed, including OMT!Tails and CR!Sonic taking a trip to the Shatterverse in One More Hero, a lot of extra backup being provided in More than One Universe (ironically, also including two alternate versions of Tails who don't otherwise fill vacant roles), and a bit more time dedicated to going in and around the Quill Society HQ in Many More Heroes.
- Adaptation Name Change: The Rivals' Madness song list refers to Raven's EXE as "Eclipse", both due to him utilising the Black Sun in his schemes (which is equal to a solar eclipse) and to avoid mixing him up with the collective name for entities under Sonic.exe criteria.
- Adaptational Alternate Ending:
- It's confirmed that, before these events started, OMT was ultimately destroyed, though at the cost of Sonic's life, meaning everyone else can live a generally nice life again.
- After trying to overpower Xenophanes hundreds of times, EX!Alice, along with Veronica and Caffrin, the latter of which pulled a Heel–Face Turn in her last moments, took down the monster once and for all, though it came at the cost of the Gamer Girl's life.
- After Mario’s Madness, Boyfriend and Girlfriend are successfully killed by M, though this victory is spoiled by Pico unwittingly causing a full-blown Cosmic Retcon that rewrites a MASSIVE portion of the FNF universe to be different.
- Compared to Across the Spider-Verse, Many More Heroes actually DOES end on a more positive note. Sentic is successfully beaten by the teamwork of OMT!Tails and Superstars Amy, and Lost Memory Sonic gets ratted out for his ideals about canon events, ensuring OMT!Cream's death doesn't have to happen. That said, Sentic's last-ditch effort to take the duo down with him causes OMT!Tails to be knocked into Dimension BL-2017, where he's met by a familiar face from that universe...
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: On top of the body count the original Spider-Verse canon events rack up from several of the cast losing some of those close to them, the radioactive spider is swapped out for various other means for Mobian heroes to get into their roles. And there's no saying they have to prepare for heroism by choice, either, which OMT!Tails, OMT!Mina, EX!Alice, Nitro and Antho got taught the harshest.
- OMT!Tails is not only forced to take up his Sonic's mantle after his passing, but he's also forced to lose OMT!Sally at Richard's hands, which fills him with even more grief. And as if to make it worse, he feels the pressure to erase all trace of his existence as a possible last-ditch effort to fix everything, which is thankfully stopped.
- Adaptational Badass: EX!Alice is already a force of nature in the universe she originates from, but combine that with her modified E4-R6:3 vehicle, and she can really tear up an enemy battlefield quickly.
- Adaptational Context Change:
- The general power outlet of a Spider-Person is altered for the Blur Gang and Quill Society characters; web-slinging is replaced with special enerbeam bracelets (save for OMT!Mina, who has web-slinging from the get-go), the Super-Senses attribute to another point on someone's body (like OMT!Tails's namesakes and OMT!Mina's hair), and the Wall Crawl is practiced in the same way as Sonic Frontiers, done by the user's sheer willpower alone instead of Spider DNA.
- Compared to the Humiliation Conga Miles goes through in Into, OMT!Tails completely botches his attempt to do the shoulder touch on OMT!Mina, instead leading to a recreation of the "how to talk to short people" meme to his embarrassment. In the final battle, he learns from this and instead gives himself an air boost with his twin tails to pull it off on Eggman Nega and finally defeat him.
- The Drill Sergeant Nasty section doesn't get as rough as it does in Into, and is simply more Played for Laughs. OMT!Tails departing (with Chuck by his side this time as company) is instead more out of worry for Uma and his close friends.
- Played with with the "Will you adopt me?" gag. While it's still used in the same Played for Laughs context as intended for the Action Prologue, it's given a lot more weight when said by OMT!Cream towards Devy in More than One Universe, considering OMT!Vanilla is a goner now.
- In Tails of Trials, the Optional Boss of Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers is brought up, though this time under the context of guarding one of the seven statues needed to reach Dr. EggOmega's universe and stop his plans.
- In the same story's climax, the Sealed Stars end up playing an important role of their own; not just as side-quests needed for a better outcome, but taking them out and reclaiming the 14 Emeralds is the final driving point of the story to help stop THE END, this time with the Prime versions of Team Sonic, Cream, Shadow, Rouge and Eggman (with his henchbots and daughter) helping out.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Whilst the appearance of Earth-42 Miles is canonically saved for the climax of Across the Spider-Verse as a Wham Shot for Beyond the Spider-Verse, in Many More Heroes, OMT!Tails instead stumbles across Moebius early on, accidentally getting a rival out of Anti-Miles before he returns home in time for when the true events start.
- Adaptational Sympathy:
- The Quill Society isn't as inherently awful as the Spider-Society's way of performing was. Almost all of the present characters involved are firmly on the side of good and mainly wish to keep an eye on the bad apples involved, with only Lost Memory Sonic, Turbo, Fiona and Metallix being the worst members.
- Amy Rouge in this storyline is ultimately less of a charmer than usually depicted, instead choosing to keep out of the public consciousness due to her bad relationship with Toxinfect. She is fully trusting of both Errorverse Sonic and Nitro, though.
- Adapted Out: Any of the major Ruder and Cruder content in Across the Spider-Verse and other content is cut out, due to most of the main cast being minors, with a small few being over 18 in general. Any of the NSFW implications for characters like Milly are also completely out of the window to keep the story fairly family-friendly, instead focusing on their personality attributes.
- Alternate Continuity: Whilst the events of Funkinverse remain the same, some changes take place between them in the IAB! Shared Universe.
- Whilst it's unknown how the likes of B3 and Lexi Robin reacted to Cam's Villainous Breakdown in the original story, here, they ultimately become Defectors from Decadence after witnessing how extreme Cam is willing to go to enforce The Stations of the Canon.
- The Boyfriend of the MIX universe undergoes a Decomposite Character state in this continuity, as there's one variant working with Benjamin to fight the Funkin' Society, and another still working alongside it.
- Finally, the terror of The X ultimately comes to a close post-Funkinverse once the Quill Society get involved, leading to his premature capture.
- Alternate Tooniverse: There are a few universes in IAB! that class as a Tooniverse, be it being a Toon plain and simple (e.g., Mr. Needlemouse and AOSTH Sonic), being Animesque (Sonic X as a prime example), or in an old storybook-like artstyle in-universe (like Black Knight Amy's version of Camelot).
- Alternate Universe:
- Naturally the case when you have so many iterations of Sonic in one package. Though things do differ between dimensions, especially in MP-2021's case. As specific examples:
- MP-2021's iteration of Chaos Cola is dubbed "Rola-Cola", and is dubbed "Crackin' Cola" in NM-1973.
- YouTube is dubbed "SEGATube" in all SEGA universes.
- G.U.N. and MeteorTech are dubbed "S.I.G.U." (or "South Island Guardian Units") and "Comet-Innovation" respectively in Dimension MP-2021.
- In the same universe, Tumblr still goes by Tumblelogs.
- OMT!Tails does not know what either SAGE or the SHC is, since he doesn't have either in his universe.
- McDonald's and Burger King are dubbed "McLovely's" and "Burger Monarchy" respectively in MP-2021.
- Pop culture in MP-2021 is vastly different in contrast to most worlds; for instance, there's a marble-run comedy starring Chris Pratt dubbed "Don't Lose Your Marbles", and Who Framed Roger Rabbit got a sequel.note
- Planet Hollywood is instead dubbed "Planet Staroak" in MP-2021, and is South Island's main film industry there.
- The classic cartoons in the Errorverse went and expanded Toontown into a full-blown Toontopia full of pre-computer-drawn cartoon characters.
- Fazbear Entertainment went under new management in the Errorverse, this time not covering up their past misdeeds.
- The BBC goes under the name "GBC" (or "Global Broadcasting Corporation") in the Errorverse's bounds.
- New Identity, New Life serves as one for Bently Forceloyed/Alt Benjamin, being mostly disconnected from the events in the rest of the saga.
- Naturally the case when you have so many iterations of Sonic in one package. Though things do differ between dimensions, especially in MP-2021's case. As specific examples:
- And the Adventure Continues: In the aftermath of Tails of Trials, the boundaries blocking off dimensions have been permanently shattered by THE END getting banished to an eternal prison, therefore unlocking endless possibilities as for adventures that the Blur Gang can go on together, with Emi Leafy and Kinoko joining the team after they prove themselves as the first sign of this happening. Of course, this attracts some unwanted attention, including that of an old SEGA foe who desires revenge...
- Answer Cut: During the fourth chapter of One More Hero, CR!Sonic starts to ponder about how those back at his dimension are doing. With the post to go by, we discover it's absolute chaos back there, before it cuts back to CR!Sonic who shrugs it off.
- April Fools' Day: On April Fools' Day 2024, a post was made to advertise a game adaptation of the story... which is quickly undercut by OMT!Tails, Crossover Realm Sonic and Sally, and D-Sides Mighty each commenting on the fact that it's not feasible for such a large-scale project working with a copyrighted property as inspiration. That said, however, The Reveal of a new antagonist (who's revealed to be dubbed "EggOmega" in the Green Mountain script post) at the very end of the post is played completely seriously and does not contain anything even remotely funny.
- Arc Words: "Take that first step". In the context of IAB!, it's shown to be a key factor around many different areas of Character Development; the characters in question need to be willing to start their path to a brighter future.
- This is the main point for OMT!Tails in One More Hero, and Nine shares this advice with him that he takes to heart for the rest of the story and beyond.
- It also serves as a major driving force for CR!Sonic in the same story, allowing him to return to his dimension once more with a fresh mind and be ready to be with his Sally once more.
- Milly has this as a major plot point for her side-story, with EV!Amy passing on this advice and encouraging her to find the love of her life that will make sure she's happy and content.
- Ascended Extra: The gender swapped Sonic.OMT showcased on Mr. Pixel's Twitter is considered non-canon officially. Here, though, it serves as a driving force of OMT!Mina's plot.
- The Bad Guy Wins:
- While Amy.OMT was outsmarted successfully, she still got the last laugh by killing Sonic and Tails and driving OMT!Mina into a Friendless Background.
- Lost Memory Sonic's version of Eggman ultimately got what he wanted by unleashing the Amnesiac Hero-turned-villain into the multiverse's bounds, hence why he's the one trying to enforce a variant of canon events.
- Big Damn Kiss: OMT!Mina and OMT!Tails finally go through with one at the end of Tails of Trials, accenting them as an Official Couple.
- Bittersweet Ending:
- More than One Universe ultimately ends with the villains cured and sent off home, though Richard remains deeply scarred by what he went through, even after being taken in by OMT!Tails. My Last Trauma also closes out his traumatic experiences by finishing OMT's part in the story for good.
- The Funkinverse crossover concludes with The X successfully overpowered, Salty's world saved, and Judith going to recreate the Funkin' Society from the ground-up, simply as a social environment for -friends to bond together, with several members of the Funkin' Gangs allowed to join as ambassadors to get things prepared (like Grace setting up the new Funkin' City in a blank dimension). Despite this, this ultimately comes at the cost of Cam pulling an Heroic Sacrifice to dispose of the monster, and many of the -friends, Kenji included, still have several wrongs to make right in their worlds, something that seems to have been successful by the "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue. And worse still, considering The X's presence in a post that introduced the concept, he's still not dead.
- Many More Heroes finishes with OMT!Tails and Superstars Amy ultimately successful in defeating Sentic, and this averting the former having to undergo another negative "canon event". However, Sentic tries to take both of them down with him, getting Tails thrown into another dimension, and LM!Sonic is barred from working with the Quill Society further for his behaviour.
- Blended Beastfolk:
- Mr. Needlemouse is an alternate Sonic, with one of his differences being that he's half-hedgehog half-rabbit rather than being a full hedgehog.
- Emi Leafy is half-rabbit, half-fox.
- Bookends:
- One More Hero kicks off with the "one last time" backstory explanation, courtesy of OMT!Sonic. In that same sense, another "one last time" explanation (this time for THE last time) is told from OMT!Tails after More than One Universe and My Last Trauma.
- The Action Prologue has OMT!Mina and her Rosemary separating from each other after everything the former went through got too much, with both ultimately having left their home dimension behind. By the epilogue of Tails of Trials, D-Sides Mighty mentions that someone wanted to see Mina, confirmed later to be Rosemary having come to reunite with her after so long.
- Butt-Monkey: Counterparts of Fang are subject to a lot of comical defeats throughout IAB!. Specifically, the Fang of Dimension MP-2021 keeps getting beaten by OMT!Tails, even before he fully stretched out his heroic role, and another version of Fang associated with the Quill Society is unceremoniously blasted away by LM!Sonic for trying to slow him down.
- The Cameo:
- During the explanation as to how Dimension FNF-NEW-2023 came to be, Nonsense is seen in one of the pictures, not too happy with Boyfriend and Girlfriend breaking into his house just to challenge him.
- Likewise, while Nitro's explaining about his whole Alternate Universe conundrum, he brings up Exault amongst the EXEs that Nitro.DLL intervened with.
- Red is seen in a couple of the mockups, usually accompanied by Hedgehog Lilac. His presence is explained as a result of SEGA buying out Rovio, and he later contributes in the big chase in Many More Heroes, hanging onto Hedgelac for dear life.
- In BEC's final question for the Q&A (which was meant as a joke that didn't need answering), Kirbo shows up in the villains' HQ and summons Jesus Christ to cause Coconuts to blow up before getting away scot-free for it.
- Central Theme:
- In general for the main stories, there's the base theme that, though suffering can be inevitable at some points in life, it does not mean that it should define your destiny. OMT!Tails demonstrates several times in the stories that you can fight fate, within reason of course, doing so by opting to Save the Villain in More than One Universe and averting canon events without shame elsewhere, a motive that gets him in conflict with Lost Memory Sonic.
- Likewise, there's also the recurring theme that you need to "take that first step" to solving problems in your life. As early as the webcomic's prelude, OMT!Tails takes it upon himself to set off the steps necessary to stop OMT's eternal torment of him and his friends, and his actions each help others make steps necessary to heal the pains in their lives, including CR!Sonic finally finding it in him to reconcile with his Sally and be Happily Married with her.
- The YouTube playlists tied to the Sonic Anniversary Broadcast
post have a central focus and theme each.- The "Retro Nostalgia Mix" has songs from the classic (and classic-ish, in the case of Sonic the Hedgehog 4) Sonic games, mostly consisting of remixes.
- The "Alt Angel Island Mix" compiles six songs from the Sonic 3 Alternate and Sonic & Knuckles Alternate music tracks composed by Leliani Wilson and John Tay respectively.
- The "Relaxation Mix" composes of more calming songs from both the Sonic library of songs and those from SEGA games as a whole.
- The "Lo-Fi Beats Mix" has, as the name suggests, lo-fi themed songs and remixes, starting out with the fishing theme from Sonic Frontiers.
- The "Fan Creations Mix" includes popular songs from six different fan games and mods.
- The "Indie Grooves Mix" focuses on music from indie games, specifically those focusing on high speed such as Freedom Planet and Pizza Tower.
- And finally, the "Modern-Day Mix" focuses on the more recent Sonic music, from games kicking off from the Adventure era.
- Chekhov's Gun: The Ring Racers. Initially set up to be natural racing material early on in Tails of Trials, their usage comes full-circle in the climax following EggOmega's death, with modified versions of the vehicles being made to help destroy the Sealed Stars and put a stop to THE END.
- Child of Two Worlds: During the Funkinverse crossover, it becomes apparent that several of the characters featured have their own ties to SEGA properties and affiliates, making them of interest to both the Funkinverse and the Quill Society alike. This ultimately leads to the recruitment of every cast member with this distinction.
- Benjamin's older sister is Hatsune Miku, whose rights belong to SEGA.
- Bunfriend and BluBuni are variants of Boyfriend from worlds based on Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Kenji Tensei used to be employed by Earth-13166's Kazuma Kiryu, who also possesses an Adaptation Origin Connection to his cousin and several of her friends — and they, in turn, work in the same talent agency (Cover Corporation) as the IRL Sonic brand ambassador, Korone Inugami.
- Aloe Mano is a particularly unique case — apart from being an ex-employee of the aforementioned agency and having faced Korone herself, she lugs around NEO, as in the body Mettaton designed for himself in both Undertale and Deltarune. As the multiverse of those games is canon here and the in-universe lore made up for Cover's employees also stipulates they have their own multiverse, Aloe is a living intersection of four multiverses.
- Colony Drop: Like Kliff before them, following Benjamin calling them out for thinking that they were entitled to his time, the ErroRhythmic Beats counterpart of the Harvester attempted to pull this by causing an orbiting satellite to begin its crash course into Daniel Dearest's mansion at the climax of that dimension's Corruption events, not even caring that he has a family that wouldn't be inclined to see their home destroyed, or about any collateral damage caused to Philly in the crossfire.
- Compressed Adaptation: As it currently stands, only the first game of Green Mountain is covered in Tails of Trials, with it currently unknown whether or not OMT!Tails learned about the other separate cases revolving around the ARG, but opening the possibility that he may later discover more in smaller stories afterwards.
- Content Warning:
- The "LM!Sonic's Cruel Nature"
post warns readers right off the bat that there are depictions of abuse present in the scene, which nails down to LM!Sonic throwing a baseball at Fiona Fox's nose and then demanding her to follow his orders, right in front of a whole group of characters who wouldn't condone such behaviour from another Sonic. It also serves as Foreshadowing for LM!Sonic's soon-to-be revealed Control Freak nature and his desire to enforce "canon events", shown in the scene after that. - The "Fall of an NU"
post also features this, this time warning viewers of multiple swears (especially from Sark Cream) and controversial topics around Sally.exe Continued Nightmare: Eye of Three.
- The "LM!Sonic's Cruel Nature"
- Cosmic Retcon: A few of these come into play at different times.
- For the Friday Night Funkin' universe, Pico finding an unknown entity resembling Bowser caused the realm to reset, with various changes caused to the series of events.
- For an Undertale universe, the events of ErroReality were triggered as a result of an aborted Genocide run where Frisk turned their blade towards a cackling Flowey, the resulting blows forcing an unseen force (presumably Gaster) to patch up the world with some changes.
- For the Errorverse, a full-blown universal reset occurred, fixing various painful deaths whilst making the EV-2019 variant of Mobius more lively by splitting its Mr. Tinker and Dr. Eggman into separate people.
- In the case of the Sonic Prime series, this is played with. On one hand, Prime Sonic was able to stop a case of History Repeats by stopping himself from smashing the Paradox Prism, therefore ensuring the events never happened in the canon universe. That said, since the Shatterverse is perfectly intact in Into, Across and Beyond!, none of the events there have been wiped clean, instead having the Shatterspaces be their own sub-universe and being allowed to expand from there.
- For the original Eye of Three universe, EV!Sonic sets one off for the Highests to reset that Mobius back to how it was before Exetior began killing innocents just to advance his agenda, and by the end of the "Fall of an NU" sequence, this comes to pass, with the souls of the more sympathetic victims freed in advance.
- Creator Cameo: Just like Stan Lee did in the original Into, Pico DS, in the form of an Author Avatar, shows up early in One More Hero as the corner shop owner that OMT!Tails briefly interacts with.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Dr. EggOmega dishes several of these out in Tails of Trials, to the point that the Blur Gang, OMT!Tails's Family of Choice and two of the official Sonics stand no chance against him, even as an elite team. Fortunately, this is flipped right back on him after he Failed a Spot Check, courtesy of both OMT!Tails Taking the Bullet for Sonic Prime, and Eggman Prime being even more Crazy-Prepared.
- Cutting Off the Branches: Hameln Crackdown is set after the true endings of Amanda the Adventurer and its sequel, but after the bad ending of the finale, thanks to Amanda coming across Riley's corpse next to the elevator down to Hameln's chapel and Rebecca's Regained Memories Sequence remaining incomplete by the time Amanda gets herself and Wooly personally involved in shutting the Cult down.
- Dark Fic: Downplayed, as while the story doesn't go out of its way to treat the source works' characters negatively, it's still a Film Fic of a story with major character deaths, a high projected body count, and the fact that the idea of canon events still sucks, with conflict arising from that titanic amount of misery being swept under the rug by Lost Memory Sonic.
- Darker and Edgier: The Dangerous Domain side-story is this to its source of inspiration, the third episode of Friendly Enmity. Whilst that was also quite dark, especially with the show of Mr. Virtual being a Greater-Scope Villain for the series, it also had its share of comedic moments strewn throughout it. However, in Nitro.DLL's run, there's barely any sign of comedy all throughout, and considering who the Big Bad of the side-story is, the entire situation is treated seriously right until the escape sequence.
- A Day in the Limelight: The Blur Gang are generally the primary protagonists of the series, though from the posts currently shown, different characters get the spotlight at different times.
- Like Spider-Ham before him, Mr. Needlemouse naturally gets his day in the planned Mr. Needlemouse in "Captured Hog!" story.
- Befitting its Darker and Edgier nature with little to no intentional comedy, My Last Trauma solely features the supporting cast from the OMT universe alongside OMT!Tails, with none of the multiversal allies present, only mentioned on occasion.
- Benjamin, the alternate version of Boyfriend in the IAB! continuity, tends to get the most focus in the side-stories connected to Funkinverse.
- Many More Heroes gives OMT!Tails, Superstars Amy, OMT!Mina, Black Knight Amy and Pana Der Hejhog primary focus as protagonists in the starting stages, with the former two going right for it in that story's final fight.
- For Tails of Trials:
- OMT!Tails and Hog first lead the charge into the Sonic Robo Blast 2 universe, before Antho and Trip make a solo mission to find the statue at Espresso Lane.
- From a comment between CR!Sonic and CU!Sonic (and a later post showing these plans), their children (plus April and Smol Devy) have their statue hunt at the universe of Sonic's Schoolhouse.
- During the planning stages, it's shown that Sonic Prime and Nitro go together as a duo to the Movieverse to track down their statue.
- OMT!Tails and Nine lead the charge against the original Sonic.exe as a pair.
- Death by Adaptation: OMT!Sonic and OMT!Sally, and LM!Silver fell victim to this through seeming canon events.
- Decomposite Character:
- In a sense. While OMT!Tails AND Antho both technically fill in the role for Miles Morales in this AU, the Mobiverse's events more strongly align with how Into the Spider-Verse played out, with Antho's Sonic dying to Mammoth Mogul and passing on the responsibility of shutting down the super-collider to Antho before kicking the bucket.
- In Amanda the Adventurer, Wooly and Marcus were both one and the same, with Wooly being a Digital Avatar for the willing participant in Hameln's experiments. Within Hameln Crackdown, however, after Marcus gets himself outed as the one abusing and gaslighting Amanda/Rebecca, he gets split into solely controlling the Shephard, while Wooly gets full free will again and adopts a personality similar to his Pilot Episode self. Wooly even explains afterwards that he was trapped in his own mind following the first game (implying his attempts to reach out to Riley alone were genuine in this continuity) and his body returning to the show in the second, unable to do anything but watch Marcus ruining Rebecca's life further.
- Deconstruction:
- Like Spider-Verse itself, the plot deconstructs the concept of being obliged to be Truer to the Text. Lost Memory Sonic's strict ideals of "canon events" - repetitive narratives from past works and stories - such as losing a loved one or encountering a Sonic.exe, and deliberately attempting to confine someone to those story beats in the belief that these tragedies are necessary to be a world's hero and keep the universe stable, can rob them of their agency to develop their own unique stories and the possibility of them being happier and healthier for it, which the Quill Society properly embodies. Needless to say, OMT!Tails rightfully points out that LM!Sonic's ideals, in-universe AND out, are incredibly screwed up.
- OMT!Tails, as a whole, deconstructs the concept of recursive fanworks of Sonic.exe and how it affects those involved. Namely, due to being canonically branded as OMT's favourite victim (alongside always being the first target due to his brotherly bond with Sonic), he suffers the worst out of the victims, his Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory forcing him to remember every single death he sustained in all four games of the Sonic.EXE: One More Saga and getting consistent nightmares from it that he held onto for a year straight before Sally found out, whereas the other victims only remembered their most recent fates and weren't affected as badly.
- Likewise, after One More Hero, it's shown that he sustained his fever from the overabundance of Chaos energy from the Chaos Emeralds in his mission to stop Eggman Nega, this being a deconstruction of the prospect of a Super Mode and who can properly sustain it, such as Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow and Silver. It's the aftermath of the story that makes him swear to never use the seven Emeralds collectively ever again, not even to give him a boost in helping others, due to how much younger his body is and how much less he can sustain this power for long without support like his nanomachine suit.
- One of Sonic Prime's moments in Tails of Trials is this around Sonic Frontiers being a Tough Act to Follow in his view, due to now having the weight of the world on his shoulders and fearing that even one massive slip-up will bring the Sonic franchise to a grinding end if even one more of his games aren't positively received, which he openly vents to Tails Prime. In the same sequence, it's also a deconstruction of Status Quo Is God concerning the official games, mainly that Eggman is always back to planning a new (usually more dangerous) scheme by the next game and that an Enemy Mine is typically for Eggman's own gain as of the meta era, a thing that Sonic had come to predict by the time of that story.
- Department of Redundancy Department: When describing what Sark is detained for in Tekno's cast post, EV!Sonic seemed to state that he's in for "unspeakable war crimes that are truly unspeakable", likely to avoid mentioning any words that contradict the aforementioned Ruder and Cruder things being removed.
- Dies Differently in the Adaptation: Mimic ultimately meets his end like in IDW proper, though rather than the Suicide Attack he attempted at the end of Issue 79 of the Shattered Pieces Arc, in IAB!, Whisper is the one to ultimately do him in on her own, and in a much less family-friendly manner.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: The Max Chaos that Bently Forceloyed encounters with Cam leading into his involvement in the Funkinverse crossover is notably a much bigger Jerkass as a character, whereas future renditions of him, including AU counterparts, were given Adaptational Sympathy as a contrast to such early writing. Canon Max Chaos still harbors such behavior, though is also a loose cannon when it comes to his alignment.
- The Earth-Prime Theory: This is discussed in one of the posts between characters, the theory being that if Sonic Prime's universe was destroyed, all those it branched from would rot, and any that have their creations subverted are to undergo a Cessation of Existence. Of course, the version of Nitro at the scene questions the theory, considering the Shatterverse is perfectly intact in IAB!. The theory is ultimately neither proven nor debunked by the end of Tails of Trials, thanks to OMT!Tails Taking the Bullet and preventing Sonic Prime from getting fried in a Chaos Emerald-powered laser. The worst the theory really did was wearing down several Sonics during an unseen EXE attack on the Prime universe.
- Elaborate Underground Base: The Blur HQ used as the base of operations for the Blur Gang. Aside from having top computers and access to OMT!Tails's vehicles (e.g., the Tornado and Sea Fox), the HQ also contains a virtual training simulator, a trophy room, a radio studio (used for the gang's 33rd Anniversary radio test), an arcade room, an outdoor garden and even living spaces for the crew.
- Earlier on, there's also the underground base that Chuck and Rosie keep under their house, which used to be managed actively by OMT!Sonic prior to his passing. This base serves as the port of call for the Blur Gang in the first two stories, before a good portion of its equipment is transferred over to the newer base closer to OMT!Tails's home.
- Eldritch Location: Besides it coming with the warranty of being a Sonic.exe universe, Dimension EXE-2013, the home of the original, has a realistic background, which sharply contrasts with the rest of the pixelated art on display in the mockup that shows Sonic.EXE's reveal.
- Even Evil Has Standards: SRB2 Robotnik, having seemingly redeemed himself by the events of Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers, still has a few quips to make about the colour choices that the Blur Gang each go for when the titular go-karts are introduced. However, he doesn't say anything against CU!Sonic, who uses the pink Spray Can as a reminder of his lost wife, instead offering his condolences.
- Fictional Social Network: The SEGAVerse in general here has what is dubbed the "SEGANet" that characters from across that part of the multiverse use to stay in touch. It also counts as The Alternet within IAB!.
- Film Fic: It's Spider-Verse, but having Sonic, his friends and enemies in the starring roles instead.
- Fix Fic:
- Kenji Tensei becomes a focus character in the Funkinverse crossover, which also rectifies numerous criticisms about his original story.
- Much of Kenji's story presence no longer takes place in the past of either any of the stories featured or our world, actually moving on from Aloe's resignation. His world's backstory is brought up once, but it's only described in relation to himself to solidify his Freudian Excuse as an inhabitant of everything Earth-16063 isn't.
- As Hololive is no longer supposed to be the main focus of his story appearances, Kenji being present at all doesn't come at the expense of any other featured work from a writing standpoint.
- Earth-13166's original narrative was infamously a Darker and Edgier crime thriller that dragged its feet in properly uplifting the Adaptational Angst Upgrade-ridden cast, such that its cancellation left them miles away from any sort of closure. The ending very strongly implies Kenji and his Aloe are back on track to get their world the help it badly needs — starting with the defeat of Kouta Kurayami.
- Likewise, Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW) is one of the focal dimensions during Across All Worlds, also rectifying criticisms surrounding the comics, especially in more recent times.
- As a starting point, Shadow and Lanolin in the IDW continuity have been shown to have less-than-favourable personalities that are detrimental to those around them. Both get a stern reality check during Across All Worlds that ultimately serves to improve their behaviour towards others (especially Lanolin's infamous moment of trusting Duo/Mimic over Whisper and Silver).
- The Status Quo Is God nature of the comics has, up until Issue 79 in the Shattered Pieces arc, guaranteed that Whisper is no closer to overpowering Mimic than she was in her beginnings, and has given her no sense of closure by any means, not even a chance to avenge her fallen allies independently. Thanks to the Blur Gang's intervention, however, she finally gets a chance to avenge the Diamond Cutters, and when Mimic's anger clouds his judgement and makes him ignore Whisper's last offer for him to change, he's quick to meet a gruesome death for all the blood he had shed.
- Likewise, Surge and Kit have been trapped in their roles as antagonists without any true purpose, and neither are any closer to discovering the truth of where they came from. After the pair begin their Heel–Face Turn in the climax of the IDW segment of Across All Worlds, Trip offers to help them discover this without anything hindering them, opening the way for them to finally make peace with where they came from and grow from it.
- It's mentioned at points that the IDW Sonic universe as a whole is suffering from its Darker and Edgier nature, especially with each Canon Immigrant getting little to no closure in their story arcs being dragged out across many issues. Once the IDW arc of Across All Worlds comes to a close, however, it's implied that everyone is back on track to get that dimension the help it so badly needs, starting with ensuring that any lingering traumas are sorted out and supported through between the cast.
- Kenji Tensei becomes a focus character in the Funkinverse crossover, which also rectifies numerous criticisms about his original story.
- Formula-Breaking Episode: Of the "Scripting" posts, "Canon Aversion Attempts" is the first one to have mockups shown from a top-down perspective (with maps from The Sims: Bustin' Out as the basis), as all mockups beforehand were in complete 2D planes.
- Foregone Conclusion: Despite having the Screw Destiny mentality for the vast majority of the stories, during the final fight of One More Hero, OMT!Tails comes to accept one crucial thing; for every timeline and universe that Maria got killed in, Gerald is doomed to lose his sanity and set up the events of Sonic Adventure 2 before his execution, meaning Eggman Nega's scheme was going to fail right from the start.
- Foreshadowing: In an early point of One More Hero, CR!Sonic is quick to assume that OMT!Robotnik is behind him winding up in the OMT universe, alongside the Paradox Prism. Of course, he is right on the money about the villain behind it being a Eggman, just not the one he was thinking of or the means of messing with the multiverse.
- Gecko Ending: Due to Archie Sonic Online being canon here, several hanging plots were cleared up:
- Sally was ultimately de-roboticized and restored to normal by Sonic, welcomed back with open arms.
- The Sonic Underground storyline got its conclusion, with Robotnik being Hoist by His Own Petard, Sleet and Dingo's plan to destroy Prime Sonic falling flat, and the siblings unleashing a Magic Music World-Healing Wave to undo Robotnik's mess on their world.
- Gory Discretion Shot: For the last mockup Sark Cream has any appearance in, only her leg is seen, with the remains of her body unseen after Rosy bashed her apart.
- Haunted Technology: Several of the .EXE and horrorbrew characters present in IAB! are based on a mix of this and Was Once a Man properties.
- OMT himself remains a sentient virus given life in Dimension MP-2021 after his threat was allowed to stem too far out of control, allowing him to terrorise both that Mobius and the real world collectively.
- Sarah Henderson and the Fun Gang still go through their canon fates, though she, Lily and Kyle returned from the afterlife, unwillingly on Sarah's end.
- Lilith Rose is brought up at one point in the Q&A, likely still having retained her canon fate of being fused with her abandoned creation to make RE-RUN.
- In the Rivals' Madness storyline (the ErroRhythmic Beats counterpart of Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness and Vs. Sonic.Exe), the entire situation takes place like it did in the former mod, with Super Horror Mario/Victim #1 (Madeline) and Xenophanes collectively pulling the strings. And from the song list provided, several of the creatures in the haunted disc are soul snatchers that can extend to reality, such as MX and Buggy within Hellish Heights, Sonath in Analog Alpine, Exegod and Corrupt in Legacy Lake, and EXE and Lord X in Bloody Base and Harrowing "Home" respectively, alongside corrupted and malicious digital entities like M'' ,:;,, Glitched Amy/Puroto, Fatal Error and the SM64 personalisation AI.
- Holiday Nonupdate: On certain special holidays, posts are made to celebrate each occasion, none of which are generally considered canon to the main stories. As examples:
- Valentine's Day Episode: Valentine's Day 2024 saw this post
be made to wish everyone on the day the best, accompanied by OMT!Tails and OMT!Mina sharing a moment together. - Easter Episode: Easter Day 2024, likewise, saw this post
launch. Coincidentally, that day also happened to fall on Trans Visibility Day, so in Character Blog fashion, OMT!Tails wishes the audience a happy time with both occasions, and even gives a Shout-Out to Vela Cosmos of Shang Mu Architect fame, herself a trans woman. - Halloween Episode: Halloween 2024 features OMT!Tails and a log he made
while living through OMT's constant torment, recalling all he remembered while taking refuge in one of Labyrinth's caves before being ready to take a stand and begin the chain of events that lead to the events of IAB!. And of course, he is successful in his endeavours. - Christmas Episode: Christmas 2024 has a journal entry
from the perspective of Lone Guardian Nitro, discussing how people celebrate the festive season each year (and, sadly, how several still can't for varying reasons), whilst mentioning how he celebrates Christmas over in the OMEGA Universe, which had become a more permanent home for him.
- Valentine's Day Episode: Valentine's Day 2024 saw this post
- Hypocritical Humor: In one of the posts that well precedes any of the story's events, XE!Sonic actively stops Xenomorphic from making fun of Karilvatch and his part-angelic sister, though when he asks about Toxinfect, he himself makes fun of the monster, which X lampshades.
- Immediate Sequel: Hog's involvement in the AU takes place right after the conclusion of his official story, albeit with him being warped into the Crossover Realm universe right at the last second.
- In Spite of a Nail: Although the Amy counterpart seen during the One More Hero story isn't the one from the IDW comics, Surge still sees them all as the same anyway, giving her a reason to attack EX!Alice and attempt to outright kill her in the climax.
- Insane Troll Logic: When encountering LM!Sonic, the Rocket Metal from Hues of Metal uses the idea of the hedgehog being an apparent stereotypical tourist to Australia (likely connected to Rocket's accent in the series) as a means of antagonising him.
- Interface Spoiler: Averted as to what went on with Sonath in Sonic Limited Edition: The Lost Cartridge, as the post where he discusses it omits most of the details outside of him seemingly ultimately losing outright before ending up in the OMT universe. We're not given anything to work with as to how it happened, only him saying that things got ugly for him by the end.
- Irony: The real-life brand ambassador for Sonic the Hedgehog as a franchise, Korone Inugami, is acknowledged exactly once... and it's in relation to the Funkinverse crossover to pass her variant from HoloFunk over for Quill Society membership in favor of protagonist Aloe Mano, while also doing the same on Earth-13166 with that world's variant and Kenji Tensei. For added salt in the wound, Sonic is almost certainly fiction on both worlds, meaning Korone's existence is only defined in the exact places where she can't interact with its characters naturally.
- Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The prime focus of this film fic is combining several areas of Sonic's history and numerous fanworks into a single storyline.
- Mercy Kill: In a bid to put an end to the Green Mountain curse and unlock the path to Dimension UNK-0013, OMT!Tails does this to the rotting Sonic (dubbed "End") to give it the peace it wanted for so long.
- Meta Twist: Sonic.exe is treated as a canon event in IAB!, though there is a double twist to this point - encounters with EXEs are surprisingly rare, despite the high quantity of EXE fangames, and the first documented case in the Quill Society's logs is a universe that does not have such an encounter in the canon story. Even the official Sonic universe, which shouldn't be experiencing a Sonic.exe strike, almost met its end at the original .exe's hands before Sonic Prime cut off his titular connection with parallel worlds.
- Misery Builds Character: Like the original Spider-Verse, the dark side of the whole "canon event" theory is it implying that the stress of fighting and losing people always benefits a hero of a Sonic world in the long-run. Unsurprisingly, considering the Quill Society is on Adaptational Sympathy outright, both it and the Blur Gang comes into conflict with LM!Sonic, both factions knowing that it's completely unnecessary.
- Named by the Adaptation:
- The counterparts of Soft Pico and Soft Grace in the ErroRhythmic Beats universe are dubbed "Piyan N. Griffiths" and "Gracelyn Dent" respectively. Their original counterparts' names remain unchanged.
- Neo Boyfriend has been dubbed "Leo" to fit with the real names of his friends, Benjamin Fairest and B3.
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: During the climax of More than One Universe's first half, OMT!Sally intervenes and helps defend OMT!Tails from Richard. During the fight, however, she endures a fatal attack and dies shortly after in Tails's arms. Later, when Tails attempts to murder Richard in a blind rage, he is stopped by CU!Sonic, who gets stabbed in the back by Richard for his efforts. He does get better, though.
- No One Gets Left Behind: Compared to canon, OMT!Tails refuses to let Kaede risk her life for his sake in One More Hero, considering her condition. Despite her trying to convince him otherwise, she relents and flees the abandoned Death Egg with him, though not before giving him the override key needed to shut down the interdimensional energiser.
- No OSHA Compliance: Like its game of inspiration, LM!Sonic's dorm in the Quill Society headquarters would not pass a safety test, having loads of wires left around the floor and leaving major tripping hazards as a result.
- Noodle Incident: At one point, there was a small incident where Blitz!Milla ended up almost mistaking Mobiverse Tails for her boyfriend.
- Not His Sled: Lost Memory Sonic is not his original incarnation, but one where Eggman ultimately won and killed off Silver and Amy to drive him into a downward spiral. The same applies to Soft Boyfriend / Benjamin Fairest, whose counterparts here, in canon and in the Funkinverse continuity are separate.
- Online Alias: Anyone who's in the Blur Gang or Quill Society (well, MOST people, anyway) have their own SEGANet accounts with unique aliases included.
- Only Sane Man: During the "Hues of Trouble" sequence in Cosmic Discoveries, Metallix considers himself this amidst everyone else's antics (despite the fact that he's Not So Above It All at times in the series) whilst chasing down OMT!Tails and Melody to stop their escape. He even declares that he's Surrounded by Idiots before he starts giving chase.
- OOC Is Serious Business:
- In the "Hues of Trouble" post, Metal Sonic realises something's horribly amiss when OMT!Tails starts slightly bleeding from the eyes (the earliest sign that he had been infected with the Chimera Virus which was otherwise dormant) and immediately considered getting him in for treatment, which thankfully happens once Tails returns to the Quill Society HQ.
- In the climax of Cosmic Discoveries, OMT!Tails is cited to have threatened to unleash many EXEs into LM!Sonic's universe, up to and including OMT, the one entity that kickstarted his trip in the first place. The fact he's planning to do that when he never normally would speaks volumes of how the blur-turned-villain had gone way too far. Fortunately, Skye was there to help calm OMT!Tails down and change his Tranquil Fury approach up.
- In Tails of Trials, after encountering Eggman Prime again, Sonic Prime not only drops the quips around him, but also goes by a First-Name Basis while calling him out on how the doctor never truly learns from his past mistakes and is just ramping up the stakes just to take the blue blur out of the picture. Despite Tails Prime breaking up the two's argument, Sonic makes it clear that, away from the official media, he's got no intent on letting Eggman off the hook for a past incident. It's mentioned that part of this is contributed to Sonic.exe himself having struck his world via a Deal with the Devil.
- Pragmatic Adaptation: Several of the character picks have had creative liberties taken with them due to limits being in place for both the presented sprite art and canon limitations. That, and to allow more creativity to come out of the project as a whole.
- Because EX!Alice doesn't canonically have a robot counterpart like Peni Parker did, this necessitated creating a companion for her to make use of.
- Some of the counterparts do not mirror their character positions perfectly due to these limitations. For instance, Plush Spider-Man is swapped out for Sunky and Tlels, two characters from a parody version of Sonic, and Peter Parkedcar, instead of being a sentient vehicle, is Carol and her motorbike.
- Due to Crossover Realm Sonic having yet to start a family canonically, the spot filled for Peter B. Parker is split into two; one for the aforementioned blue blur, and the other for ChaosIIUniverse Sonic and his daughter. CR!Sonic does have a family of his own post-One More Hero, though, but they don't get as actively involved in these adventures to begin with.
- There are two counterparts of Margo that have their own places in the storyline; Nine, who is on the side of OMT!Tails following his series' events, and a version of Nicole, who works alongside the Quill Society and aligns more with the scripting of Across, likely down to the Ship Tease Miles and Margo got between them.
- Anything resembling Gwen's Peter / The Lizard would be very Out of Character for OMT!Mina's Sonic and/or Tails, with their deaths instead attributed to a version of OMT wearing a vessel based on Amy Rose.
- As BluBuni doesn't currently have any established lore or personality, she's been given these within IAB! to help her stand out from her fellow -friends.
- Real-Person Fic: Discussed in one of EV!Sonic's logs. He has an opportunity to invoke this format with SEGA partner Cover Corporation, but decides the ethical questions it raises isn't worth the trouble. Even with wholly-fictionalized portrayals (e.g. HoloFunk, from which he already recruited its version of Aloe Mano), they still have both content creation and whatever other jobs they have in canon, which is still influenced by the real world and liable to be ruined by adding the Quill Society's workload on top of that. By all accounts, finding a fictionalized world where Aloe is a protagonist was a very lucky pull from reaching around in that part of the multiverse: because she has no canon lore besides a basic personality due to her real-life actress retiring early, she is the only "canon" character from its cast that is truly free from our reality in the conscience of EV!Sonic.
- Recursive Canon:
- In the Sonic the Comic universe, it's stated that a simplified port of Sonic Superstars for the SEGA Genesis was what served as Turbo's increased inspiration to follow in Sonic's footsteps.
- "Sunflower", one of the major songs from Into the Spider-Verse, is actually covered in-universe by Benjamin
.
- Recursive Fanfiction: Like projects such as Underverse before it, Into, Across and Beyond! is a crossover between several other Sonic the Hedgehog works (official AND fan-made).
- Retcon: Due to the Archie Comics and Underground universes branching from the pre-Super Genesis Wave era, none of the post-SGW content (which includes the absence of Worlds Collide in the Archie Sonic Online continuity) ever happens.
- Running Gag:
- Hog greeting others by saying "Ihop", just like in The Unused and Majin Show. At the end of More than One Universe, OMT!Tails gets in on this too, saying "Bye-hop" to wave Hog off.
- The Blur HQ map posted on DeviantArt reveals another one for the series in that Mr. NM keeps smashing one particular vase in one of the base's rooms. And by the end of Tails of Trials, he's already gone through six of them (two of which were during the construction of the HQ). This is increased to seven in the Sonic Anniversary post's events, and by the time Kyuzi joins the Blur Gang, this number is increased to ten.
- Screw Destiny: This seems to be a running theme throughout Into, Across and Beyond!, hence the various deviations from the base scripts. For More than One Universe, OMT!Tails refuses to go through with erasing all memory of his companionships, hence allowing him to still enjoy the company of his friends, and Many More Heroes embodies this tenfold with the Quill Society, most of which aren't even inclined with the whole idea of "canon events".
- The failed timelines seem destined for erasure by unknown forces, but many of their inhabitants were saved and escorted safely into the Omega Timeline/OMEGA Universe for a safe place to live.
- Due to Pico unwittingly causing a Cosmic Retcon to the FNF universe, he ended up causing this, thus allowing Benjamin to survive Ultra M's fatal attack and work to stop him and rescue Grace from his clutches.
- Likewise, the Cosmic Retcon for the Errorverse also caused this, averting several "canon events" linked to it, like the Start of Darkness that got Audrey cursed and Kyuzi's fated death.
- Seen It All: Thanks to his world being a major foothold for Crossover content (mainly through mods), the Sonic Robo Blast 2 counterpart of Sonic isn't really fazed by an alternate version of his sidekick and a bootleg counterpart of himself coming into Greenflower Zone unannounced.
- Serendipity Shock: At the end of the Funkinverse crossover, Kenji is given Benjamin's electronic keyboard as a sign of goodwill and to pass down his legacy. Realizing that he has been truly forgiven for his actions under the Funkin' Society and has had his first shot at true closure for anything in his world in years, he breaks down crying in shock and disbelief that either would even be possible. He is next seen with his world's Aloe, having promised to fight to keep his peace and bring it to the rest of his world's inhabitants. By all accounts, it seems he will.
- Shared Universe: Through the "X for Danger"
post, it's implied that IAB! and Funkinverse are part of the same connected mass multiverse, alongside the original Spider-Man: Spider-Verse series also being cited as such via a "Not So Different" Remark from The X. This is ultimately confirmed via another post
, which also accents the events of Funkinverse here as an Alternate Continuity. - Shipping Torpedo: Amongst the "canon events", there is one that limits the Sonic and Tails romantic interests down to Amy or Sally, and Cosmo, Cream or Zooey respectively, supposedly due to any attempts on their part to love another ending in disaster. This doesn't go down well with any Sonic or Tails who is in a truly stable relationship with someone who isn't one of the aforementioned characters.
- Shoo Out the Clowns:
- Of the Into, Across and Beyond! stories, More than One Universe is the only one where Mr. Needlemouse is outright absent.
- In One More Hero, OMT!Mina sees to it that Surge and Johnny, both Sitcom Arch-Nemesis to each other, are temporarily taken out of the action to maintain the serious nature of OMT!Tails trying to escape from Shadow Emerl/Uma, and the near-fatal aftermath for her.
- Shout-Out:
- The whole layout of MP-2021 South Island after OMT's downfall is a wholesale nod to its design from in-progress fan RPG, Sonic and the Rings of Order.
- During the Action Prologue, there is a small few.
- A few of Snively's lines during the battle are pulled from Charlie Adler's other VA work as Corroder.
- In LM!Sonic's introduction, OMT!Mina calls him Batman Sonic, Shadow Sonic and Shadic respectively.
- The conversation that plays out between EV!Sonic and OMT!Ash in the Action Prologue is structured in the same manner as that from the Doctor Who 2005 Christmas Episode, with EV!Sonic employing the same near-Tranquil Fury tactic to make the G.U.N. soldiers stand down and buy him and OMT!Mina time to leave.
- Likewise, in Many More Heroes, OMT!Tails calls out LM!Sonic in the same vein as the Doctor called out Eddie Connolly in "The Idiot's Lantern", this time around his abusive nature towards Fiona Fox.
- Two different ones are shown towards the original Spider-Verse movies in the posts:
- In the scene where OMT!Tails and OMT!Mina are briefly hanging out in the former's bedroom (with Superstars Amy accompanying them this time), his boxed figure is of Peni Parker and SP//dr, specifically their Into variants.
- In a side-story post related to the Shared Universe crossovers, not only is Gracie present in the scene, but Gwen Stacy herself makes an appearance (complete with a "Not So Different" Remark between the two girls), and shares her own advice to EV!Sonic about how best to manage the Quill Society and prevent it from falling into the same trap that both the Spider-Society and the Funkin' Society did.
- The ending of the Funkinverse crossover (alongside a flashback to Benjamin's last encounter with the Harvester) is stated to have been directly based around No Straight Roads, with a lot of the dialogue showing that.
- The food and meal options presented in the Quill Society's café include a mix of those from Subway (like the Tex Mexan Sandwich), alongside those introduced as part of the Sonic X IHop collaboration (like the Tails' 2x2x2 and Dr. Eggman's Benedict).
- In the Quill Society's logs written out by EV!Sonic, Lightmatter is brought up in Log 9, due to the shadow anomalies being a threat that has to be neutralised on any Earth that Lightmatter Technologies is a part of (typically any that are in the Shared Universe of Half-Life and Portal), to prevent the collapse of civilisation on those Earths should their Virgil allow them to go unimpeded.
- The "Pacniverse" story arc from DMG's animations is also directly given a nod to in another log, which caught EV!Sonic's attention following the events of "Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Infinite Lives Cheat"
, the ending of which involved the Pac-Man stealing the Master Emerald through ordering Kirby and Geno to handle it, prompting the already pissed-off Sonic to try and get it back, albeit unsuccessfully. - When being interrogated about her original whereabouts by HOM!Metal Sonic and Prototype, Melody's response to their question is "Information of my universe is to be kept between me and my family, thank you very much!".
- Shown Their Work: As Pico DS hails from the UK, some of his knowledge about the country also carries over to IAB!. For instance:
- Tekno (who hails from a Britain-made comic book herself) correctly identifying about marriage laws in the UK; anyone who is 16 or over can marry with parental consent, while anyone over 18 is free to marry without it.
- OMT!Tails's mention of Elizabeth II refers to her as the late Queen Elizabeth II, as a reminder of Her Majesty's death in 2022.
- Small Role, Big Impact: The presence of a variant of hololive and its talents continues to have far-reaching butterfly effects on Aloe and Kenji during the Funkinverse crossover despite the company never being mentioned by name in-universe or even appearing in the main story. Kenji's increased focus is partially a result of Cam (incorrectly) assuming his relationship with Kanata makes him similar to Benjamin and Miku & vice versa, while the company's continued collaborations with SEGA in the real world allow him and Aloe (an ex-employee) to stick around after the end of the crossover, working with Ben, Bunfriend, and BluBuni at the Quill Society.
- Spared by the Adaptation:
- The entire OMT cast! At least, except for that universe's Sonic. Thanks to his efforts, those characters have been able to live a life free of OMT forcing them into endless loops of agonising death.
- As the Mario's Madness and Vs. Sonic.exe locations are all cited to have become their own universes following the events of the Rivals' Madness concept, none of them or their characters are left bound as slaves to Ultra M or Xenophanes.
- The Stations of the Canon: The trope is discussed in much the same way as the original Spider-Verse films, with the topic of canon events and that all of them, good or bad, must seemingly play out uninterrupted if they start happening, even if it means others end up dying. A good number of the cast don't even have all the criteria for the major "canon events", and the third criteria, which states that at least one Sonic.exe has to have terrorised a universe, sparks ire from those who never even encountered such entities (like LEGO Sonic or Blitz!Tails), those who are/have been EXEs themselves (Sarah, Sunky and RAW), and those that have bonded with an EXE as a friend or loved one (like EV!Sonic and Milly).
- The Stinger: The post-credit scene of More than One Universe plays out like the one from Into did, only here, Lost Memory Sonic is forced to put up with the antics of OVA Sonic and quickly gets sidetracked from what he had planned. As seen in other posts, this Sonic, alongside his Knuckles and Sara, got hired into the Quill Society after this shenanigan.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The buildup to the One More Hero final battle shows that disguising as waiters while the villains running an event have already seen what you look like isn't the brightest idea. Johnny is quick to pick up on this and quietly alert Eggman Nega about them without raising any fuss.
- Take That!:
- The infamous kiss sequence is used as a stand-in for Earth-1610B Peter's "bully Maguire" phase.
- One of the billboards pictured in Gust Planet Zone (that being the swap-in for the Spider-HQ) has a jumbled version of the Sonic Omens logo (the second word being scrambled backwards to "SNEMO"), along with text giving clear prods at the fangame's controversial overshadowing.
- Turbo being a little bit more immature and The Friend Nobody Likes is meant to align with the criticism surrounding him in his introduction, dubbing him as a direct ripoff of Sonic due to not deviating as much from the original.
- Sark is amongst various prisoners held by the Quill Society, and unlike most that are sent back to their dimensions, it's stated that the villain is outright erased off-screen, likely due to his controversial misdeeds in his game of origin.
- By extension, the post documenting the events leading to his capture serve as a huge middle-finger to Jaiz's current Nightmare Universe in general, taking jabs at points such as Jaiz grooming a minor into saying explicit lines, refusing to accept blame for his mistakes, and frowning upon retakes of his work that actually attempt to fix the mistakes he made in its writing.
- Earth-67's counterpart is the universe of Sonic Underground. While not a jab on its own, it's the Sonic picked for this role that throws jabs at the series' base-breaking things.
- CD!Sonic's repeat customer for therapy is a version of Sonic dubbed "Charlie", from the very poor-quality Sonic 2 1990 Lost Prototype game that's just a generic Sonic.exe game. As it happens, he's the ONLY Sonic the formerly-depressed hedgehog actually dislikes.
- Dimension JC-231 is the universe of the original Sonic.exe creepypasta stories, including Sonic.exe Remake, and is frowned upon by all Quill Society members, including Lost Memory Sonic.
- The ever-infamous Bench Tails (who Pico DS implores that you do NOT look up, so Take Our Word for It) is a wanted criminal that has been successfully killed in every universe where he had existed (of which there were only 20 appearances counted amidst the scope of the thousands of other dimensions).
- AI-generated art is frowned upon a lot amongst the main characters in Dimension MP-2021, and as such, one of the side plots of One More Hero involves OMT!Tails sharing out a petition on CraftyCorn's behalf to outlaw it, the signatures being helped by his Blur Gang allies.
- Take That, Audience!:
- In the post revealing about OMT!Tails's Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory and the trauma he endured because of it, OMT!Sonic, beyond the grave, appears in an act of Breaking the Fourth Wall to call out the constant practice of making Sonic.exe fan games that always have Tails suffering for it, especially in the dawn of One Last Round promising multiple routes that very clearly lead nowhere but to alternate deaths."If even one more version of my companions is forced to suffer at the hands of an EXE as of the day this post was made... you'd seriously better hope you can run WAY faster than I can."
- In Curse's cast post, a disclaimer was put right under the image to clarify that the take was made out of love for the original vision of the character (that Curse isn't scary; the world around him is) and not out of spite against it, a direct jab at the takes that have outright ignored this original vision and just threw Curse straight into the territory of needing him to be scary for a generic EXE formula.
- "Unused's Therapy Session"
was created at the height of Nominal Dingus expressing major distaste for "A Date to Die Four", with this serving as the grounds for Unused venting about how, no matter how much he tries to ensure otherwise, Nominal's fans still mainly come for his EXE content, and that it's hard to tell if people are being sincere with their apologies or just saying it to get him back on the grind against his wishes, not helped by YouTube's algorithm working against channels that don't get lots of views quickly.
- In the post revealing about OMT!Tails's Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory and the trauma he endured because of it, OMT!Sonic, beyond the grave, appears in an act of Breaking the Fourth Wall to call out the constant practice of making Sonic.exe fan games that always have Tails suffering for it, especially in the dawn of One Last Round promising multiple routes that very clearly lead nowhere but to alternate deaths.
- Tempting Fate: In the "Paying Taxes" mini-story (based on the video by Jehtt), Mr. Needlemouse boasts that he can avoid paying his taxes and, due to his cartoon properties, the IRS can't catch him. Mere seconds later, he's thrown into their prisons for this planned tax evasion, alongside all the other crimes he committed across the multiverse.
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: This is ultimately Eggman Prime's motive for going back into the multiverse once more to track down Sonic Prime in Tails of Trials, as he'd prefer to take down the Blue Blur himself rather than let another multiversal threat do it first.
- Time Skip: Six months pass between One More Hero and More than One Universe, though it's confirmed in a post that the time flow of different universes varies from world to world. For some specific examples:
- Dimension CR-2017 had six years pass, giving time for CR!Sonic's children to be born and grow.
- Dimension PDH-2011 (not NS-2021, in this case) also had six months pass, like with MP-2021.
- Dimension JA-1991 only had a month to go by, while the universe is still stuck in 1992.
- It's left unknown just how much time had passed in Dimension NM-1973 before Into the Sonic-verse, due to the dimension running on Comic-Book Time.
- and Dimension EX-2022 had 10 months pass before MtOU, giving EX!Alice time to make some new machines after E4 got destroyed back at MP-2021. She also fully relegated into a Genki Girl mindset after that point, the opposite effect that Peni went through between films.
- Trauma-Induced Amnesia: The Tails of the Sonic 3 Early Ending universe seems to have suffered this, having forgotten about causing Robotnik to get incinerated through absorbing a fraction of the Master Emerald's power in the final battle. Considering he knows he took Knuckles's life in the altered events, he was likely traumatized from having to take Knuckles and Robotnik alone respectively (and in turn unwittingly causing their deaths), which caused the amnesia to kick in that he mentions to Sonic in the aftermath, who, due to being knocked out in both moments, was none the wiser of what occurred.
- Truer to the Text: Xenophanes is outright stated to have come from his own game in the real world and not a version of Mobius, which makes EX!Alice a standout character amongst the other hedgehogs, foxes and other such members of the Blur Gang.
- We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties: Parodied during the Q&A, where, after Mr. Needlemouse's attempt to be smug about CLE/Cindy's Berserk Button backfires massively in his face (or rather, where it REALLY hurts), BEC is forced to cut off the transmission, leading to this with a sick BEC as the main centrepiece.
- Wham Line:
- During the epilogue of More than One Universe, after Nitro reveals his Multiform Balance to OMT!Tails and OMT!Mina, Mina's comment brings a whole new light to how IAB! is currently presented; "You know, come to think of it... hasn't this happened before?"
- After bringing the Rovina warriors and their companions into the Quill Society HQ, Zonic uncovers information related to the third entity co-existing with Respiro and Rovina, dubbed "Rovescio". Just like in TOYSTORY.EXE Remastered, very little is known about the entity, even in-universe, which encourages EV!Sonic and O77!Blaze to research about them.
- Wham Shot:
- Throughout "Dangerous Domain", it's mentioned that Toxinfect is constantly keeping a seemingly random computer monitor sealed in one of his chambers. When Nitro.DLL and Roze try to investigate later on, it manages to break out all on its own and reveal itself as another Sonic.exe entity, known as SoniTOR.
- To hammer in just how monstrous Dr. EggOmega is, when Sonic Prime faces some of his Badniks, he discovers inside one of them that the critter inside had been ground up in a gorey fashion. The blue blur is left truly horrified by the sight, though not enough to stop him from avoiding an Egg Breaker's ambush."Oh, god... How sadistic IS this guy?!"
- Your Size May Vary: Because of the limitations in what sprites Pico DS is able to use and/or edit for Into, Across and Beyond!, not all characters in the sprite mockups (standout cases including Blitz!Tails, Sunky and Tlels) match up to their canon size scales.
- Demoted to Extra: Due to Swapped Roles taking place in the "Blur Gang Diversity" timeline, Mini Sonic, EX!Alice, CU!Sonic and CU!Sonia don't show up in the Blur Gang, instead reduced to more minor roles within the Quill Society.
- Original Generation: The chosen character picks in the "Blur Gang Diversity" timeline do not come from any pre-existing fan-made AU and were conceptualized exclusively for IAB! IF....
- Role Swap AU: The "Blur Gang Diversity" timeline employs this to ensure the number of "duplicate" characters (more than one of each Sonic mainstay) present is cut back on. For said timeline, Mini Sonic is replaced with Noir Espio, EX!Alice and E4-R6:3 are swapped out for XT!Cosmo and COS-HVC-201, and CU!Sonic and CU!Sonia have Future Brother Silver and Present Sister Cream taking their spot.
- Take a Third Option: OMT!Tails makes one like he's done numerous times before, this time at the end of Tails of Trials in the "Blur Gang Diversity" timeline where he's in a Love Triangle with OMT!Mina and XT!Cosmo. He ultimately settles for wanting to make them both happy, and though initially startled by the choice, both girls are more than willing to go along with it so long as Tails can be happy, their Love Triangle becoming a Polyamory.
- Wham Line: At the end of the first post related to IAB! IF..., an encoded message is present that, when deciphered, reads "THE TIMELINES ARE FATED TO CONVERGE".
- What If?: The general idea behind the multiple timelines, exploring different deviations that might impact the flow of the main stories in IAB!.
