ULTRAKILL but they talk a lot (Web Video)
The Ferryman faces a Dark Messiah.

"V1... You may claim to be the Son, but soon the Sun shall set. And the world will sit in gentle darkness. Illuminated only... by moonlight."
- V2

ULTRAKILL but they talk a lot is a series of fan videos for ULTRAKILL by JogoLord on YouTube. The videos follow various characters' battles against a darker, more philosophical Dark Messiah V1. Currently, there are five videos: the first four cover V1's fights against V2, the Ferryman, the Earthmover, and Minos Prime, while the fifth is Lighter and Softer and features various minor enemies.

ULTRAKILL but they talk a lot contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism: V2 in the original game is implied to be little more than a smug, self-interested Machine looking to kill V1 either for its blood, or to prove itself superior. V2 here, meanwhile, woke up near the bottom of Hell and found itself blessed by The Father as it climbed its way up, only to meet V1 and put its life on the line to prevent V1 from hurting anyone else.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: A minor example, as V1 mockingly gives the Ferryman a coin. Instead of unlocking the exit without fighting it, the Ferryman tells it off and continues to insult the Supreme Machine for its crimes.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Although V1's morality is hard to interpret and dubious at best in the original game, one can hardly say it's more moral here...
  • And I Must Scream: The Filth remarks that its anonymity has granted it the honor of no arms or eyes, and thus an inability to speak or think rationally.
  • Arc Words: "War can only end with me."
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Meeting with Big Johninator, a celebrity among Machine-kind, has V1 slip that it'll be an honor to kill him on its path as the messiah. Big Johninator then calls a pause to question its words, and especially ask who would ever want a savior like V1. This actually causes V1 to lose interest in fighting and stare off into space seemingly in contemplation, rather than retort and reaffirm its beliefs as it usually does.
  • Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Something like this happens to V2 after it dies, although what exactly occurred is ambiguous in- and out-of-universe.
  • Assimilation Plot: V1's perception of what it's doing. By absorbing the blood of its victims, it believes it'll unite all the souls of Hell. Whether it actively seeks to do this, or is a welcome side effect of its own rampant gluttony is its own question divorced from whether it's even happening to start with, or if V1 has just gone mad with power.
  • Bargain with Heaven: V2 tries to make one of these.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": V1 ends the Earthmover's "The Reason You Suck" Speech with one of these.
  • Body Horror: V1's existence as a Meat-Sack Robot certainly qualifies. Just look at the way it describes seeing its own organs for the first time:
V1: [to Ferryman's body] Did you know... I have lungs as well? Breathable. Drownable. Just big enough to keep me moving. I've seen them myself. It's still so... vivid.
  • Dark Messiah: V1 explicitly calls itself the Messiah and claims to be bringing salvation to the damned souls of Hell... by slaughtering them all to create a new Heaven in its bloodstream.
  • Evil Laugh: V1 gives a mechanical laugh right before fighting the Ferryman. It's a horrifying mechanical screech that only vaguely resembles laughter.
  • "Facing the Bullets" One-Liner: The Earthmover holds onto life long enough to deliver one final speech to V1 before collapsing. Its final lines are particularly chilling:
Earthmover: I see it now. You're not looking for fuel or revenge. You're searching for the layer of hell that you belong to. Keep searching, V1. The bottom awaits.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: The Earthmover includes this in its "The Reason You Suck" Speech to V1, rejecting V1's justification that it has to keep killing to survive.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Discussed. V1's trajectory through Hell takes it through time, looping them back to the entrance whenever they reach a specific layer, only getting any deeper when Hell Herself allows it, and being stopped prematurely whenever She wills it. But every time they go back, there's less and less things to kill, meaning that they need to start rushing faster and faster through the layers to avoid running out of blood. The only ones who can perceive it happening aside from V1 are Prime Souls, and those directly blessed by God.
  • Hand Wave: V1 mentions a "truce of mechanical silence," that explains why it hasn't talked to Gabriel yet, but it's violated when it talks to the Ferryman and Minos.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: The Ferryman dies this way.
  • Machine Monotone:
    • V1 speaks in one of these, although it gets less monotone after it kills V2.
    • The Mindflayer speaks in TikTok's TTS voice.
  • Malicious Misnaming: After learning that V1 was never given a proper name, the Earthmover decides to call it "Mosquito": a blood-sucking parasite.
  • Oh, Crap!: During its second fight with Minos, V1 finds itself losing and forced on the defensive. It desperately flings a coin at Minos to set up a ricoshot... and misses. note  Once it's realized what happened, it begins visibly shaking with fear, before drooping in resignation as Minos instantly kills it with a lethal dropkick.
  • Prayer Is a Last Resort: V1 starts to say the Lord's Prayer when it enters the final layer of Violence. Word of God reveals this is a desperate, haphazard attempt to redeem itself in the Father's eyes.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: V1 gives one of these to V2 before killing it:
V1: Heaven has rejected you again, and your execution will be carried out by my hand. Or should I say... yours!
  • Running Gag: V1 really likes saying "Window!"
  • Title Drop: Played for Laughs at the end of "7-4 But V1 and Earthmover talk a lot".
V1: [after killing the Earthmover] Welp. That was a war without reason.
  • Unfulfilled Purpose Misery: V1 resents the Earthmover for ending the Great War before it had a chance to join the fight, thus depriving it of the reason it was built.
  • Villainous Breakdown: V1 goes through one of these in its second match against Minos Prime. After learning that V1 gained Resurrective Immortality by killing God in the form of V2, Minos wonders if the same will happen to him if he kills it. When he starts to attack even harder, V1 panics.
Minos: If God's essence is bestowed upon death... shall not thine end lend Him unto me?
    [Beat.]
V1: Wait, that's not what you say, THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY
    Minos: [overlapping] Die!
V1: YOU CAN'T DO THIS, MY STATUS FORBIDS IT! ONLY I CAN SEAL YOUR VENGEANCE! I'll bless man's blood a new Heaven - a sanctuary like YOURS! I'll free them! [voice cracking] YOU MUST LET ME LIVE!
  • Villain Protagonist: Played up from the original series, where V1's morality is fairly ambiguous.
  • Villain Respect: V1 occasionally demonstrates a measure of respect for its opponents. It openly admires Big Johninator for his service during the Great War, tosses a coin to the Ferryman after defeating him, and compliments V2 on its new arm in their second fight, much to the latter's displeasure.
  • Vocal Evolution: V1's original voice is replaced by V2's after their second fight, although it occasionally switches back to said original for emphasis.
  • Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Although initially excited to meet a fellow V-Series machine, V1 rejects V2 in disgust when learning that it is trying to reach salvation by appeasing Heaven.
  • You Fight Like a Cow: As the titles of the videos imply, the series consists largely of dialogue delivered while the characters are trying to kill each other.
