The Australian Object Show (Web Animation)

The Australian Object Show is an web-animated Object Show created by stereocheryb on 16th April 2024 from the land down under.

As the title and stereocheryb would like everyone to know, this object show takes place entirely in Australia and in the creator's words, "holds the OSC record for the largest ratio of Aussies in an object show cast (All of them)".

Watch the playlist here.

Contains the following tropes

  • A Dog Named "Dog": Everyone is directly named after their object and all are Australian-based of course.
  • All-Stereotype Cast: The cast are not only Australian-based objects but also varying Australian carictures. Examples include Rugby being an incredibly aggressive jock, Corkhat being deathly afraid of the deadly wildlife and even the mosquitoes being foul-mouth in nature.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: Everyone in the cast (except Upside Downy) is this but with an Australian twist. They include a boomerang, a cork hat, a didgeridoo, a golden wattle, The Opera Sydney House, a rugby ball, a vegemite jar and the country of Australia itself, all with appropriate, on-the-nose names too.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": Upside Downy's name is a combination of "Upside Down" and the "-y" suffix as typical in Object Shows that don't want all their contestants named the same way.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: Vegemite is the one and only living food-based item as a jar of vegemite.
  • Anthropomorphic Typography: Upside Downy is a sentient upside-down arrow with his face similarly in the same orientation as his body.
  • Armless Biped: Vegemite plays it straight while there are three limbless examples with Upside Downy, the Opera Sydney House and the host Australia.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Vegemite asks Golden Wattle to have a taste of vegemitenote  with the latter saying "Well, I suppose it wouldn't kill me", hinting at a poisoning. After tasting it, she proclaims the vegemite to be quite good and nothing bad happens. Suddenly, a bunch of mozzies came out of nowhere and dragged Golden Wattle to the sun.
  • Big "WHAT?!": After Australia makes the first challenge not to fall into the sun and die, Rugby Ball shouts this follow up by "Are you serious?!" over such absurdity. Rugby Ball exclaims the trope again upon being in the bottom two next episode and when he's ultimately eliminated.
  • Cluster *Bleep*-Bomb: In the second episode, Corkhat and Boomerang asked the mozzies on how to cook spiders on the Barbie, only for the latter to go into an entirely bleeped-out profane-filled rant in a show that doesn't censor the f-word, leaving the former two in utter shock and horror over what they said.
  • Death Is Cheap: The contestants don't need to worry over dying as Australia has a recovery centre that's somehow a wise-cracking, unfunny Kangaroo. The kangaroo really waste no time recovering the contestants from the moment they die.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Rugby Ball's left eye is permanently closed due to the huge scar over it.
  • Genius Loci: The Game Show Host Australia is the actual country itself the show takes place in who usually is represented by the country's shape for easier interaction with the contestants but his face is also seen on the continent in wide shots.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Golden Wattle gets ripped in half by Rugby Ball to prove a point that there are more painful ways of dying and again since she didn't answer his question if that hurt then again in retaliation after Golden Wattle insuated his aggressiveness is the cause of his elimination.
  • Jerk Jock: Rugby Ball is incredibly aggressive like the sport he represents, ripping Gold Wattle in half three times once the recovery kangaroo was established and swearing vengeance on the cast for being out first.
  • Minimalist Cast: The cast size is quite small with eight contestants, one host and few background characters.
  • Mosquito Miscreants: The mozzie swarms crop up as a recurring antagonist to the contestants, dragging them to the sun, sucking them dry or making the challenges a lot harder than it should be For the Evulz.
  • Nervous Wreck: Cork Hat is 100% convinced that the wildlife is out to get them at every turn and is constantly on edge as a result. Given the show takes place in Australia, she has every right to be.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Cork Hat has yellow face outlines instead of black with Digeridoo having a similar case of white outlines in addition to their eyes on being top of each other. The Sydney Opera House is a real-life image of the performing arts center like the Australian wildlife and unlike the rest of the 2D-design cast.
  • Plant Person: Golden Wattle is a living Acacia pycnantha, Australia's national flower.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The second episode is titled "I'm a Barbie Grill" which is a rift on Aqua's hit single "Barbie Girl".
  • Pun-Based Title: The first episode's title "Rise and Grind" is a butcher of the morning greeting "Rise and Shine".
  • Spiders Are Scary: As Rugby Ball is swearing vengeance on being eliminated first, Australia throws him into the elimination pit which is full of spiders. As the contestants look over in terror, Golden Wattle says Corkhat was right that spiders are the worst way to die.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Rugby Ball was the first to go from the competition, didn't help that the first episode was the shortest in the series.
