Object Players (OP) is an American web-animated Object Show created by Raven Creations
.
It was first released on 22nd May 2020 but only had a total of two episodes before being cancelled, renamed to Object Players Beta (OPB) and replaced by a new version of the same name. The second iteration premiered on 27th April 2021 and ran for three episodes before it too got cancelled and replaced.
As such, Object Players holds the OSC record for spawning the most iterations of the same series at five Object ShowsIn Order of Release within the span of two years.
Contains the following tropes:
- Adapted Out:
- Thirteen contestantsnote and the co-host Pulsey are only exclusive to the beta version with none of them ever seen again in Object Players proper and its following reboots.
- While Fiddle, Plate, Peas and Strawberry Milk aren't contestants in the first reboot, they do return in later iterations.
- A Dog Named "Dog": Or rather "An Object Named Object" (With a few exceptions).
- A Lizard Named "Liz": The "-y" suffix strikes thrice with Pulsey, Pursey, Pridey, a first-aid kit, purse bag and pride flag respectively. The reboot added Belly and Black Holey (A bell and black hole) into the mix.
- Animate Inanimate Object: All the contestants are everyday objects with human-like sentience and personalities.
- Anthropomorphic Food: The beta version included six food and drink-based contestantsnote with the second iteration adding the Cherries on top.
- Armless Biped: The beta had six armless contestantsnote then the second iteration added another six plus two limbless contestants (Belly and Black Holey).
- Canon Foreigner: The reboot added thirteen newbiesnote who weren't in the original, most of whom being exclusive to Object Players only.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: The existence of Pulsey makes Object Players Beta the only version of the show that has a co-host until she was Adapted Out for the following iterations and Switch subsequently hosts by himself.
- Ensemble Cast: The beta had an impressive twenty-four contestants, host and co-host while the show proper had less but still an impressive number of twenty-one contestants and just the host though this becomes a trend for future reboots.
- Gender-Equal Ensemble: The first generation cast has eleven males, eleven females, one enby and one demi boy, making Object Players Beta the only iteration closest to the trope.
- Inanimate Competitor: Mug competes in Object Players despite being an actual non-sentient coffee mug given their lack of face and limbs.
- Replacement Goldfish: Barrel, Cheese and Cherries take on the respective roles that Triforce, Nugget and Peas have left with their similar personalities in the first Soft Reboot.
- Shout-Out: Switch and Joy-Con have their objects based upon the Nintendo Switch console and its detachable controllers. Similarly, Triforce is the same fictional artifact as the one from The Legend of Zelda.
