— The opening disclaimer

At last. The Kirby Reanimated collab is finally upon us!

This is a non profit animated collaboration. Over a year in the making with 300+ artists, casual animators and industry veterans alike, coming together to re-animate an episode of Kirby: Right Back at Ya! (Episode 49 Cartoon Buffoon) scene by scene. Each scene is done by a different animator. All in good fun! This collaboration is organized and brought to you by Roya Shahidi, an illustrator, animator, and a long time fan of the always lovable pink puffball.

The project was released in Jan 23, 2019.

This work contains examples of:

  • Animation Bump: Zigzagged. With how often the art style changes this can happen multiple times in less than a minute.
  • Art Shift: Repeatedly. Every few seconds or so, the art style changes to what the current artist has drawn, with their name being shown on the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Bland-Name Product: As the cast watches a cartoon, we see a pair of cylindrical potato chip containers labelled "Blustergas" and "Samo", both of which are eerily similar to Pringles.
  • Burning with Anger: As Tiff realizes Dedede and Escargoon changed her script, she emits flames from herself.
  • The Cameo: They come up from time to time. With the constant changes of artists, these tend to only last 2-3 seconds:
  • Console Cameo:
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • After Tiff encourages Meta Knight, Dedede's Warp Star fluctuates in shape and color, almost frame by frame. There are multiple nonconsecutive frames where it says "u failed", a green dichromatic star-shaped face, and a spaceship in live-action (with it sometimes looking glitchy), a smiley face, a poorly drawn Dedede, and a comparatively normal-looking spaceship, all done in Stylistic Suck.
    • When Dedede looks up asking "Where da picture at?!", we can see a pile of Maxim Tomatoes and a trio of star blocks with the Star Rod on top. On the above floor, there's a poster with the Super Smash Bros. insignia saying "JOIN THE FIGHT".
    • Immediately afterwards, while the Waddle Dees are hard at work, one of them is pouring coffee for another whose cup is styled after a Waddle Doo.
  • Fun with Subtitles: The closed captions can throw in a few jokes whenever the subtitlers see an opportunity:
    • When Dedede shows this drawing of what he wants to be the hero of his cartoon, the captions say "A better drawing of DededeMan compared to the original episode from 2002".
    • When Tiff suggests using Kirby as the main character for the cartoon, we get "Excited Kirby noises as crowd (minus Dedede and Escargoon) approves".
    • When Dedede faints from seeing the art team's drawings, we get "Dedede is less than thrilled at the Cappies' low-quality replications of his likeness".
    • When Tiff is surprised to learn that Tokkori is also working, the captions call her "Anime.Tiff".
    • When Hana and Buttercup are discussing what color to paint Kirby, we get "theresonlysomuchstufficanputinhere.mp3"
    • When Dedede laughs in the background room, the camera arbitrarily zooms in on him, prompting "Awkward zoom in".
    • In "Dedede Saves the Day", when the sheep are running away, we get "crappy sheep noises asmr" and then "crappy panicked sheep noises asmr".
    • When Kirby is inhaling the sheep, the captions eventually say "i have officially run out of ideas for what to put here".
    • Later in the cartoon, when Kirby's Breath Weapon kills some people, the captions say "Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good...".
    • Afterwards, we get treated to "the Ebrums disinterestedly calling for help".
    • After that, Mayor Lens and Chief Bookum give "trying to sound scared and have fear". Kirby butts in and we get "poyo.flac".
    • When the cast is watching one of Dedede's free cartoons, Tiff punches Mayor Lens, prompting the response "OH that falcon punch from Tiff XD".
    • There are several instances where the captions will use different Fonts for comedic effect.
  • Funny Background Event:
    • When Dedede first announces that he wants the hero of the cartoon to be DededeMan, a crudely drawn picture of Dedede's head which is cross-eyed is shown with "DDD stinks" written underneath.
    • When Tiff complains to Dedede about how they haven't rehearsed their lines yet, Kirby is rolling back and forth.
    • Immediately afterwards, Dedede's coat has "Sweed" written on the back.
    • There's a shot in the cartoon where the Sun looks angry at Dedede and Escargoon.
    • One shot has a box on the bottom right corner that says "Ignore this box". In the same shot, Kirby is drawn in a photorealistic style and is goofily smiling while holding the Star Rod.
  • Inconsistent Dub: In the official dub, The Dragon for Nightmare Enterprises is called the "N.M.E. Sales Guy". The closed captions, however, use his Japanese name Customer Service.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Dedede is recruiting artists for his cartoon, he points at the screen and looks like Uncle Sam, the mascot of the US Government.
    • When Dedede's shown the art team's work, we get a drawing of Peter Griffin cosplaying as him, to his anger.
    • During the shot where Dedede gets horrified at Chef Kawasaki's drawing of him, it changes to resemble Kermit the Frog. During that montage, he sees artwork of himself resembling a pony (which is drawn by an artist who resembles a Temmie).
    • In the room where backgrounds are drawn, we see a picture of Kirby using his default combo in Super Smash Bros., complete with a green "A" button resembling that of a Nintendo GameCube controller on the bottom left corner being mashed.
    • After Kirby accidentally ruins a frame image, his face briefly turns into Krillin.
    • When Tokkori is waking up Kirby, we can see a poster that says "DEDEDE IS WATCHING YOU".
    • Immediately after the above moment, Tiff's face is drawn to resemble Popuko and Pipimi. We later see Dedede and Escargoon drawn with their faces. In the last minute or two, we can just barely see Dedede with a similarly drawn face for about 4-5 frames.
    • When Dedede says he's "gonna go talk to the sponsor", his face resembles Jotaro Kujo, specifically in the style of Part 3, complete with the ゴゴゴゴゴ Unsound Effect. Kirby's face is later drawn to resemble Jotaro's for three frames.
    • The Show Within a Show's intro has a few:
      • One shot has Dedede resemble his design from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. A similar model is used when Dedede laughs during the opening scene.
      • In the very next shot, he's shown driving a vehicle from The Flintstones.
      • In the shot after that, he's dressed like Princess Peach.
    • After the intro, one of the Cappies looks almost identical to The Lorax.
    • When Escargoon is bringing up the show's sponsor, the screen displays a Logo Joke to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
    • When Sir Ebrum complains about being drawn too fat, Meta Knight's design looks inspired by Bug Fables.
    • When Tiff complains about how unoriginal the show is, the book she's holding says "Club Penguin".
    • When Chef Kawasaki tells Dedede that they "didn't have time", they're drawn to resemble Patrick and Squidward, respectively.
    • When Escargoon is shown working on the 20 free episodes, 2 of the Dedede faces he's drawing reference All Might and Homer Simpson.
  • Stylistic Suck: A lot of the collab, mostly from "Dedede Saves the Day", is intentionally drawn poorly. Sometimes, it'll be in the background while characters in the foreground are drawn more professionally.
  • Synchro-Vox: During "Dedede Saves the Day", there's a shot where Dedede's mouth is live-action, while the rest of the shot is hand-drawn.
