Disturbed is a 2016 Visual Novel hosted on Steam, developed and published by iBlackpen.
The game puts you in the shoes of farmer struggling to run his failing farm, so he decides to do something about it.
A sequel titled Disturbed: Beyond Aramor was also released.
Not to be confused with the heavy metal band.
This game provides examples of the following tropes:
- All There in the Manual: The protagonist's name is stated to be Von on the Steam page.
- Bears Are Bad News: If you wander into the cave, you'll encounter a bear that will kill you.
- Featureless Protagonist: As it's usual with visual novels, the protagonist's appearance isn't known. His name and gender are only stated on the Steam page.
- Giant Spider: One is found guarding a key in a room filled with corpses. Von will need to acquire the spirit's sword to stand any hope of getting the key from it and making it out of there in one piece.
- The Many Deaths of You: Each ending is basically a different way for the player character to die.
- Minimalist Cast: The protagonist is really only the sole character with any sort of presence. Anyone else is pretty much The Ghost.
- Music Soothes the Savage Beast: One of the special items Von finds is a magic harp that can charm various creatures. In addition to pacifying hostile animals it can also be used to lure over the Unicorn.
- Too Dumb to Live: Frankly, to get some of the endings, you have to do really stupid things, like picking black mushrooms around your cow's corpse for example.
- Unicorn: One can be fleetingly spotted out in the wilds while the player is exploring. It's one of the few benevolent entities in the game and wants to stop the spreading blight covering the land but is currently too weak to do so on its own. In the ending where the player destroys the gem at the top of the tower the Unicorn shows up to heal his wounds and restore the land to its normal unafflicted state.
