That Night Before (Video Game)
That Night Before is a 2002 Point-and-Click Adventure Game, made by Scurvyliver Entertainment who previously worked on Fate of Monkey Island.

Roy Haliway is your ordinary Australian 18-year old. One night, as he's out with his girlfriend Natasha, she sees mysterious white light in the sky. Right after that, Roy wakes up at his home with no recollection of what happened, and the federal agent Todd informs him that Natasha mysteriously vanished, and he's the main suspect. It's up to Roy to find out what happened last night, find Natasha and clear his name.

The game can be downloaded here, and the walkthrough can be found there.

The game provides examples of:

  • Crossover Cameo: Plenty of those with Fate of Monkey Island:
    • The bartender at the Daves House of Caffeine is actually the bartender from the Bloody Lip Bar in Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (he also makes an appearance in the tavern on Bulky Island in Fate of Monkey Island 2). If you look at him, Roy will even remark: "He looks disturbingly familiar".
    • When Roy is kidnapped by Brittney and Danny, he ends up in a prison cell with Squinky.
    • In Act 4, if you look through the View-O-Matic at the pier, you can see Squinky floating on an inflatable purple tentacle, as he is at the beginning of the second FOMI.
    • Also in Act 4, at the TV studio there's an actor who looks like Largo LaGrande in a monkey suit from the first FOMI.
  • Dismantled MacGuffin: In Act 4, you have to collect three items (a toy umbrella, a toy cane, and a bow tie), and put them on a robot toy fish to open the safe with the money.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The local bum Danny Todd who hangs outside the Daves House of Caffeine is actually one of the two main villains.
  • Evil Twin: The culprit behind Natasha's disappearance is her evil twin sister Brittney.
  • One Crazy Night: The first three acts of the game take place during one single night, with Roy roaming through the town and trying to find out what happened to Natasha.
  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: Initially it's implied that aliens are behind Natasha's disappearance, and the local bum Danny Todd outright suggests that. It turns out that Natasha was kidnapped by her evil sister Brittney, and Danny was her accomplice.
  • Shout-Out: There's a rubber chicken from Monkey Island in Roy's room (that also appears in Stan's shop in Part 3 of the second FOMI).
