SteamWorld Build (Video Game)
Build and dig!

The world is ending and you need to escape! Thankfully Astrid knows there is untapped technology deep in the mines that can help you. But in order to get to it, you’ll need to grow your Steambot town, manage your resources, open your mines and explore the shadowy depths below. Have you got what it takes to escape this crumbling rock?

SteamWorld Build is a casual city-building and dungeon-management cross-over game developed by The Station and published by Thunderful Publishing set in the SteamWorld universe, where you build and manage a town on a dying planet. You'll need to balance resources, construction, and exploration to its depths to ensure your town's survival and eventual escape.

SteamWorld Build has examples of:

  • Ambidextrous Sprite: The character pictures use this during conversations, most obviously seen with the Trader and his numerical price slot machine in his chest.
  • An Entrepreneur Is You: You will have to manage the economy of the Steambot town as it grows more and more.
  • False Friend: The Core, being an offshoot of Vectron, it tries to get the Steambots killed.
  • Lorre Lookalike: The Core tends to speak in a similar fashion to the trope namer. Unsurprisingly, he's secretly the Big Bad of the story.
  • Real-Time Strategy: The whole point of the game, you manage and construct a city in order to find a technology that will be key to escape the end of the world.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: Build takes place in the same time when Dorothy comes to El Machino in search of Rusty. After Dorothy defeats Rosie and the Earth starts to explode, with the technology found your town manages to escape in the rockets.
  • Slobs vs. Snobs: The Clutchsprockets often get into arguments with Gunn-Britt Gildenwire, the latter often only looking to profit off the land and work for her own interests (and that of her fellow aristobots). During the end of the story in which things get dire, Gildenwire opts to do her part in evacuating the city from certain doom.
  • Steampunk: It wouldn't be SteamWorld if it doesn't have steam tech, now would it?
