SkateBIRD (Video Game)
SkateBIRD is a skateboarding Video Game by Glass Bottom Games that was funded on Kickstarter on 9th July 2019 and ultimately released on 16th September 2021.

You are a bird owned by a skateboarder that you've named "Big Friend". Or at least they used to be a skateboarder before they gave that up. Now they've got a job that has them working at all hours, they're barely ever home, and their apartment is a mess.

You've become concerned for Big Friend. They need to rediscover their love of skateboarding. But what's a bird to do? Why, get on your little skateboard and start shredding and grinding, of course! So that's what you're going to do. Good thing there's a lot of appropriately-sized things to double as ramps and rails!

Has no relation to the 1977 TV show Skatebirds.

This game contains examples of:

  • Acrophobic Bird: Flying is not an option for our skateboarding birb protagonist.
  • And Your Reward Is Clothes: You get new accessories by catching them in trickier corners of the stages.
  • Bottomless Pit Rescue Service: In "Afraid of Heists" and "Skate Heaven", Seagull will help you get back on the stage if you plummet into an abyss.
  • The Cameo:
    • The spider from Webbed appears in the Gibson room. Give her a tour of the place and she will be available as a headwear.
    • As a reward for reaching the ending, you can play as Crewmates from Among Us.
  • Character Customization: You can change your bird's species and put various hats and accessories on them. You can also change the design on the skateboard, along with the colour of the wheels.
  • Cool Board: You have a skateboard that's small enough for a bird to use.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": The seagull who helps you a few times is called simply... Seagull.
  • Double Jump: You can flap your wings midair to perform one more ollie before hitting the ground.
  • Evolving Title Screen: The title screen gets crowded with more birds as you progress through the game.
  • Leitmotif: Each named bird has their own motif that plays when you start their mission.
  • Modular Difficulty: You can fine-tune the game difficulty by setting difficulty of balancing on the board, whether the missions are timed, setting the game's overall speed and such.
  • Pun-Based Title: The titles of the missions involve a lot of wordplay. In particular...
    • The title of the game itself is a play on "skateboard".
    • The first stage takes place in Big Friend's bedroom, titled "Humble Bedginings".
    • The stage where you're skating on the rooftop of a building you intend to infiltrate is called "Afraid of Heists", a play on "afraid of heights".
  • Remixed Level: "Bringing It Home" takes place in Big Friend's apartment from "Humble Bedginings", only in a much better state now.
  • Silliness Switch: Settings under the "Just for Fun" heading exist only to make an already silly game about avian skateboarding even sillier, such as by making dialogue more bird-like or making your birb "happy".
  • Skate Heaven Is a Place on Earth: Since you're a skateboarding bird, the world is full of things like miniature ramps made of pizza boxes and grind rails made of bendy straws and pencils on top of erasers.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: After retiring from skateboarding, Big Friend has took on a job in financing, which leaves them little time to care about themselves or their birds. Those birds set out to fix that.
  • Species Surname: The legendary skateboarding hawk is named... Anthony Hawk.
  • Talking Animal: The birds in the game can talk to each other.
  • Timed Mission: Some missions in the game involve completing certain objectives before the clock reaches zero. You can disable the timer in the settings and complete the missions at your own pace instead.
