Silver is an Action RPG developed by Spiral House and released for Windows in 1999 and for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000.

The evil sorcerer Silver kidnaps women from all over Jarrah to choose a new wife. David, whose wife was among the kidnapped women, joins the rebels and embarks on a quest to find the eight magic orbs and defeat Silver once and for all. During his adventures, he meets several people who help him and might even agree to fight by his side.

The game got released on Steam and GOG.com for the PC on June 4, 2017.


Tropes:

  • Antagonist Title: Silver is the Big Bad. The Hero is named David.
  • Big Eater: Fat Bob lives up to his name with usually snacking on something.
  • Break the Cutie: Attempted with Jennifer, when David finally kills Silver, she is freed, and claims Silver told her that David died trying to rescue her so she would lose all hope. Thankfully, it didn't work.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Silver, in the intro alone it's stated he killed his old wife for the gall of seeking affection from another even he denied her, and the main plot starts with him sending out his army to round up every women of age to pick a new one.
  • Damsel in Distress: Jennifer and many other women are kidnapped for Silver to pick a new wife from. Othher female characters are not as helpless as and actively resist Silvers reign.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Teronus' screentime is very limited, yet he it doesn't stop him from dealing out quick remarks.
  • Dual Wielding: Fuge does this. Upon killing him, David gets his dual swords and can do the same.
  • Expy: Silver is pretty obviously inspired by Emperor Palpatine; he even shoots lightning at people at some points.
  • Evil Old Folks: The titular Silver rules with an iron fist and is old enough to have fully grown chidren.
  • Giant Mook: The club-wielding imp guards, Slink after his transformation, and the first boss in the library are actually just bigger and more powerful versions of the normal red imps.
  • Hyperactive Metabolism: Eating is the primary way of replenishing health, especially at the beginning.
  • Kick the Dog:As if he wasn't evil enough for what he did to the people, Silver gets several of these moments:
  • Justified Tutorial: The combat mechanics are introduced via the context of a training session between David and his grandad.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: David is a kindhearted armoured warrior who stands against wickedness for the sake of his wife and the innocent.
  • La Résistance: The rebels in Haven, led by the Duke, are the main organized resistance against Silvers harsh rule, which David allies with.
  • Large Ham: Silvers son Fuge is as bombastic as they come which is only enhanced by deep voice provided by Richard Ridings.
  • Mentor Archetype: David's grandfather a veteran warrior who teaches his grandson the robes at the beginning of the story.
  • Rebel Leader: The Duke, no longer willing to put up with Silvers abuse of power anymore leads the rebellion against him.
  • The Dragon: Silvers right hand is his son, Fuge, whose just as wicked as his old man.
  • The Mole: William, but only because Silver said he'd spare his wife if he did.
  • Small Parent, Huge Child: Silver's son Fuge is much bigger than his father.
  • The Unfought: Jag, a lieutenant of Silver, is set up in a cutscene to be an early game boss. Instead, upon meeting David, he fails to notice a green dragon descending from above and takes a blast to the back from it.
  • Villain World: The world Jarrah is this, as Silver rules everything.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization:
    • David prefers swords.
    • Sekune is the expert for ranged weapons.
    • Jug is best with the war hammer, axe, and mace.
    • Cagen prefers to fight bare-handed.
    • Chiaro makes best use of spells and magic weapons.
    • Even the mooks in Spires fight with tridents.
  • You Killed My Father: Fuge kills David's grandfather early in-game. He also killed David's father, as he gloats just before his boss fight.
