Seedling (Video Game)
Seedling is a retro action-adventure Game that can be played online. A boy created from the wind is sent on a quest by the oracle who created him to find a seed to replace the oracle's dying tree. To find this seed, he must travel across the land, go through dungeons, solve puzzles, and face the Creatures of Relic.

It can be played here.

Tropes used in this game:

  • Ambiguous Innocence: The player character having being just created at the start of the game doesn't have a sense of good or evil yet, which leads to him following the first instructions he's given without regard for the consequences. It isn't until the end that the main character finally has enough awareness to make his own decisions.
  • Big Good: The Watcher is the key to restoring the player character's morality.
  • Blackout Basement: Woshad, which has lights that can be turned on or off using the ghost spear.
  • Blamed for Being Railroaded: There are boss fights throughout the game with the Creatures of Relic, which the player character is later called out for killing them all. However, the game also goes out of its way to prevent Sequence Breaking that could prevent you from encountering some of them in the first place, so fighting them all is the only way to progress through the game.
  • Born of Magic: The Oracle has the ability to create life, and created the player character from the wind using his magic.
  • Collection Sidequest: There are amulet pieces scattered in treasure chests across the world. Collecting them all unlocks the good ending.
  • Combat Tentacles: The Tentacled Beast is exactly what its name suggests.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: A witch gives you the Dark Sword because she believes you to be a good person.
  • Developer's Foresight: It’s possible to try to get the conch after getting the sword but before the first dungeon. However, if you do, the path will be blocked.
  • Equipment-Based Progression: Finding items required to clear obstacles is how you access new areas.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: It is never explained what Sardol's motives are. He killed the Goreback himself in the backstory and will block the player from reaching the conch before killing the Shieldspire to ensure the player will kill the remaining Creatures of Relic, but it's never explained why Sardol wants the them dead.
  • In-Universe Game Clock: The game cycles between day and night, simply making things harder to see during the night.
  • It's All Upstairs From Here: Ghethis, the last dungeon, is a tower that reaches into the sky.
  • Last-Second Ending Choice: Either, kill the Watcher for the seed, or find a different way to get the seed. If you didn't get all the chests, there's a second exit from the dungeon.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Bosiniad is a dungeon full of fire and lava.
  • The Lost Woods: Rostef is a labyrinthine forest dungeon.
  • MacGuffin: The player travels across the land and through multiple dungeons in search of a seed to replace The Oracle's dying tree. Despite being the player character's driving force, the seed and the tree it's replacing have no special properties, with one of the villagers debunking any rumors that the tree is magical. It's only significant because The Oracle requested it. The Watcher specifically calls out player character for his willingness to commit murder to search of a seed he has no particular reason to want.
  • Multiple Endings: There are two of them. There's one that can be gotten for reaching the end of the game, and another one that requires 100% Completion.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: The Watcher blocks the entrance to the Owl’s Nest to stop the player character after he kills the Shieldspire, but this only leads him to kill the other Creatures of Relic in his quest to find the seed.
  • North Is Cold, South Is Hot: The ice themed dungeon is north, and the entrance to the lava themed dungeon is south.
  • One-Time Dungeon: Lacste. The entrance is blocked after you visit it.
  • Point of No Return: Some of the game's dungeons trap you inside once you enter, ensuring that you cannot leave the dungeon unless you kill the boss.
  • Predecessor Villain: There are several monuments showcasing the villainous Sardol, who killed one of the Creatures of Relic before the game started and now lives in infamy. He never appears outside of an Easter Egg.
  • Script Breaking: Most dungeons either trap the player inside until they've beaten the boss, or have the boss drop an item required for progression. Woshad does neither, being escapable after you find the dungeon item. The Watcher will still assume you killed the Lights once you reached him, even if nothing actually forces you to fight them.
  • Significant Anagram: All of the dungeons (except the Nest of the Owl).
  • Super Drowning Skills: Swimming in water requires the Conch, although it's possible to dash across it before being able to swim.
  • You Bastard!: The watcher calls you out for killing all the Creatures of Relic at the end of the game.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: The Oracle kills the player character in the bad ending.
