It revolves around Doug Gimbrone, an extremely unlucky guy who accidentally overhears a conversation between two customers in his favourite pub "The Snotty Weasel". One of them is working at a local asylum, and he reveals that one of the patients at the asylum mumbles a series of numbers in his sleep that turn out to be the lottery's winning numbers. Doug decides to infiltrate the asylum; however, he mucks up the infiltration, is Mistaken for Insane, and locked up in the asylum as an inmate. Now he has to solve the mystery of the lottery lunatic and escape the asylum.

The game provides examples of:
- Alliterative Title: Search for Sanity.
- The Dog Was the Mastermind: The game's antagonist was to be Friz, another customer from the "The Snotty Weasel", who also overheard the conversation, and also intends to get rich with the lottery lunatic.
- Easter Egg: In Doug's apartment, you can talk to the lamp.
- Metalhead: Doug's neighbour is a heavy metal fan called Rozzy. He even has his own music theme.

- Mind-Control Conspiracy: The reason why the patient mumbles the winning lottery numbers in his sleep has something to do with government mind control experiments performed on the asylum patients.
- Mona Lisa Smile: Inside "The Snotty Weasel", there's a copy of Mona Lisa with a weasel face. It's called "Mona Weasel".
- Shout-Out: In the storage room, Doug finds a hat and a whip, with the label: "Property of Indiana". He ends up wondering how this stuff got there from the state of Indiana.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: In the storage room, among other items, Doug finds body parts stored in formaldehyde. His reaction? "Just your usual body parts stored in formaldehyde".
- Whole-Plot Reference: The asylum's inhabitants were intended to be caricatures of characters from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
