Pokémon Sleep is a free-to-play mobile Idle Game and sleep tracker app in the Pokémon franchise developed by SELECT BUTTON inc., who previously developed Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, and published by The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices. It was originally revealed on May 19, 2019 and released on July 19th/20th, 2023, with an open beta held in select countries between July 9th and July 19th.
Pokémon Sleep revolves around an archipelago of islands inhabited by various Pokémon. Researching the islands is Professor Neroli, a Pokémon Professor who studies the sleep patterns of Pokémon, who has called upon the player to assist in his research. As it turns out, the archipelago is home to a great many Snorlax, who not only eat and sleep like beasts but also possess a peculiar power unique to these islands to draw other Pokémon to them in their sleep and put them to a good night's rest. Your mission? You Gotta Catch Them All, of course! By befriending and powering up the friendly Snorlax on the island, you can help Professor Neroli complete the Sleep Style Dex, a record of not only every Pokémon on the archipelago but also their sleeping habits and conditions.
The gameplay of Pokémon Sleep is split into two phases. During the awake phase, players interact with their partner Snorlax and any Pokémon they have befriended, collecting berries and ingredients and cooking dishes to boost Snorlax's Drowsy Power and increase the variety of Pokémon that Snorlax can attract. During the sleep phase, players set their phone down on their mattress and go to sleep, with the phone gathering data pertaining to the player's sleeping habits and quality of rest. After getting a sufficient amount of sleep—90 minutes minimal—the player is graded on their sleep with a Sleep Score, a numerical representation of the length and quality of the player's sleep, and Snorlax will have attracted resting Pokémon to its location. After taking pictures of the sleeping Pokémon for the Sleep Style Dex, Pokémon can be befriended by feeding them cookies to fill up their Friendship Gauge. A Pokémon will be "caught" upon fully maxing its Friendship Gauge and join your team, with each Pokémon having unique skills and abilities to collect specific berries and ingredients for Snorlax and increase Snorlax's Drowsy Power.
The game additionally features compatibility with the Pokémon GO Plus+ accessory, which can be used to record sleep data in lieu of your phone via a wireless Bluetooth connection. Linking with a Pokémon GO Plus+ for the first time rewards you with a unique Nightcap Pikachu, who has a unique Friendship mechanic and is able to customize the functions of the Pokémon GO Plus+.
This game contains examples of:
- Abandoned Area: Old Gold Power Plant, the fifth unlockable location, is an abandoned power plant full of Electric-type Pokémon.
- Adam Smith Hates Your Guts:
- Upgrading the Cooking Pot costs Dream Shards, whose price goes up with every purchase (to the point of requiring a whopping 720,000 Dream Shards in order to allow the maximum number of ingredients to fit into your Pot).
- The 2024 Summer Festival introduced the limited-time Candy Cram-O-Matic, which could be used up to 4 times a day to convert up to 40 Candies per session into an M-sized Candy of a random type. Each repeated use on the same day costs more Dream Shards than the last.
- Added Alliterative Appeal: A number of multi-word sleep styles use this in their names: Barrier-Bed Sleep (Mr. Mime/Mime Jr.), Berry-Bearing Sleep (Snover), Cotton-Cloud Sleep (Swablu/Altaria), Dream-Dance Sleep (Quaquaval), Earth-Eating (Larvitar), Fin-Fluttering (Mudkip), Floating-Flutter Sleep (Togetic and Pumpkaboo), Floaty Flopped Sleep (Shuppet), Free-Flight Sleep (Togekiss), Gem-Gathering Sleep (Murkrow/Honchkrow), Gift-Giving Sleep (Delibird, Holiday Pikachu, and Holiday Eevee), Lazy-Lookout Sleep (Doduo/Dodrio), Pebble-Plonk Sleep (Mr. Mime), Pseudo-Slacking Sleep (Sudowoodo), Scale-Scattering Sleep (Butterfree), Seriously Slacking Sleep (Sudowoodo), String-Shot Sleep (Caterpie), Tail-Tucked Sleep (Alolan Ninetales), Temper-Tantrum Sleep (Toxel), and Tree-Tending Sleep (Sceptile). And of course, the trope also applies to every sleep style starting with S or an S sound: Pseudo-Wood, Sage, Sap-Licking, Scratchy-Bone, Seated, Self-Grooming, Shell-Tucked, Sheltered, Shining, Shivering, Shuddering, Sighing, Signature-Pose, Singing, Sitting, Sitting-Flutter, Skirt-Fluttering, Slacking, Slumping, Smiling, Smirking, Snacking, Snickering, Spacey, Spark, Spiral, Sprawled, Spread-Out, Springy, Startled, Stomach, Stomping, Straightened, Stretched, Stretched-Out, Stretching, Sturdy, Suction, Sunbathing, Swimming, Swinging, and Synchronized.
- Alliterative Name: The fourth unlockable location is called Lapis Lakeside.
- Amusing Injuries: In their three-star sleep style, Bagon sleep with their heads stuck in the ground, implied to have jumped from a height and bonked their heads before falling asleep.
- Anti-Frustration Features:
- If you forget to perform a sleep session on a given day, you have the option to record your sleep data manually, which will still give you a small reward, such as a second Bonus Biscuit for your next actual sleep session, even though you can't get sleep research or other benefits. Premium Pass players can also gain Sleep Points as if they had completed a normal sleeping session, but to prevent obvious abuse, you can only get sleep points this way once per day.
- Shiny Pokémon can show up in the game, and they're just as rare as they are in the main series. Because of this, they'll always show up hungry and are instantly befriended after feeding them just one Biscuit, regardless of its strength. Also, you can see the shiny version of every Sleep Style you've found that Pokémon in without having to see the Shiny sleep in it first.
- A Pokémon's Friendship Gauge is carried over to its next visit, so you can continue filling it up. It's also shared among the same species if more than one visits your Camp, so if one gets full, you can continue filling up the Gauge by feeding the other. However, you can't do this to befriend more than one Pokémon at the same time, since completely filling up one species' Friendship Gauge won't do the same for the other.
- If a Pokémon with a Sleep Style you already recorded appears in your camp, you can skip the recording process and have the game automatically snapshot all the already recorded Pokémon.
- If a Pokémon's carrying capacity hits its maximum, every time it gathers items it will always be Berries that are automatically be converted to Drowsy Power for Snorlax so they aren't wasted. This means the Pokémon will not collect Ingredients, however, so you are still required to check in every few hours to ensure you don't run low on reserves.
- Some Pokémon who evolve by level-up have their minimum evolution levels reduced in this game. For example, Squirtle evolves into Wartortle at Lv. 12 instead of Lv. 16.
- The amount of energy your Pokémon recovers is based on your Sleep Score for the day. The Recovery Incense doubles the amount of energy your Pokémon recovers in a sleep session, which greatly helps if you know your next sleep won't be too good. Additionally, Boxed Pokémon recover energy equivalent to 5% of your Sleep Score, allowing them to recharge bit by bit each day.
- Certain Pokémon will appear based on your Sleep Style, which can be frustrating if you're looking to get specific Pokémon since you normally cannot control how you sleep. Certain events throw the player a bone by having any Pokémon show up regardless of your Sleep Style for the night.
- The number of ingredients that can go in the cooking pot doubles on Sundays, allowing players who haven't unlocked higher pot levels the space to make larger recipes.
- Originally, your Pokémon couldn’t recover energy without either a team member providing an energy boost or you giving them an Energy Pillow, which restores 50% of their energy. An update now allows your team to recover a little energy through meals you make for Snorlax. The amount of energy they gain varies depending on how much they have before the meal.
- You can still track your sleep during maintenance, and your sleep tracking won't be interrupted if the maintenance period begins during it.
- Originally, on the second day of a Good Sleep Day event, Snorlax's gained Drowsy Power would be multiplied by 2. This was later changed to increase the multiplier if the second event day occurred earlier in the week (4× on Monday, 3× on Tuesday, 2.5× on Wednesday) to compensate for having less time to accumulate Drowsy Power for a new Snorlax.
- Darkrai during the Cresselia VS Darkrai event would only appear once if the global Drowsy Power reached rank 13. Since the only other way to get Darkrai to appear is via the New Moon events, Darkrai is automatically befriended without needing to use biscuits — instead, the player just "wakes up" Darkrai.
- The New Moon event makes Pokémon less likely to get full after the first Biscuit, making them easier to befriend. Starting in October 2025, Darkrai also automatically gains three Friendship Points each time it's encountered, making it easier to befriend and gain Eureka Seeds from.
- Anti-Wastage Features: You can't discard Master Biscuits due to their rarity and cost — there's only one in stock every 30 days, and they cost 4,000 Sleep Points.
- Arbitrary Headcount Limit: You can only have 5 Pokémon active on a team at once, not counting Nightcap Pikachu.
- Ascended Glitch: Chansey will be more powerful than Blissey after enough sleep time and if they have a Good Sleep Ribbon. The notice about the bug said it would be left in the game.
- Ate the Plate: Every time Snorlax and the helpers are fed a meal, they eat the dish it came in and even the lace doily beneath it.
- Balance Buff: Pokémon attributes are occasionally tweaked to make them more effective.
- Skill Specialists in general were originally undervalued because they drop fewer berries than Berry Specialists and fewer ingredients than Ingredient Specialists, in exchange for a slightly higher chance to activate their skills. They've since been buffed in two ways: firstly, their skill chances slowly increase if they've worked a while without activating their skills, and it's now possible for them to store two skill activations at once (other Pokémon must activate their skill before they can store another one for activation).
- Originally, there was little reason to evolve Slowpoke into Slowbro because Slowking was better in every way, balanced only by needing to spend sleep points on a Linking Cable and King's Rock. With sleep points being more abundant, they were tweaked to be more like sidegrades: Slowbro now has better ingredient collection rates while Slowking has better skill activation rates.
- At first, Umbreon had the Charge Energy S main skill, boosting its energy whenever it activated, but many other Pokémon also had the skill, and were Berry or Ingredients specialists to boot, meaning they could better take advantage of the extra energy. Umbreon's skill has since been changed to the unique skill Moonlight, which also has a chance to boost another teammate's energy as well.
- Bribing Your Way to Victory: By default, your team is limited to five Pokémon. Buying the Pokémon GO Plus+ accessory unlocks a sixth slot dedicated to Nightcap Pikachu, who will only appear when it has berries and/or ingredients to give you. While you can easily progress in the game without the special Pikachu, having it significantly helps out with boosting Snorlax's strength.
- Cap: The Pokémon level cap depends on your current Research Level. The cap was originally Level 50, but it slowly increases as the game updates (the August 2024 update increased it to 60), as hinted by the fact that Pokémon have sub skills they can learn as high up as Level 100, the traditional cap.
- Carnivore Confusion: Defied, given that the "meat" used for the recipes are all made out of Bean Sausages aside from the usual series staple of Slowpoke tails, which can be gathered from the Slowpoke line and consume dishes made from them without issue.
- Catching Some Z's: In some sleep styles, Gastly's gas turns into Z's as it sleeps.
- Colorful Theme Naming: Much like the main Pokémon games, the research areas have names with colors in them (Greengrass Isle, Cyan Beach, Taupe Hollow, etc).
- Comical Nap Drool: Caterpie is sometimes seen using String Shot in its sleep, making it look like it's drooling. Also with certain Poison-type Pokémon like Bellsprout, and Slowbro even have a Sleep Style titled "Drooling Sleep".
- Cooking Mechanics: After choosing your ingredients, you can cook a dish for Snorlax, which grants an immediate boost in Drowsy Power and is more efficient than Berries. This takes the form of a cooking pot that cooks the food automatically over time. You can tap the screen to wave your Magikarp fan, which will fan the flames beneath the pot and cook the food faster. Doing this also increases the Drowsy Power and dish mastery granted by the dish. Your team also enjoys the meal, which lets them recover a small bit of energy depending on how much they have left.
- Cordon Bleugh Chef:
- You, the player, are able to cook dishes for your Snorlax, with one such unusual meal being a chocolate sauce and meat salad. Granted, Snorlax in lore is capable of eating anything without getting sick, but still.
- Any combination of ingredients that does not create a recipe will result in a Mixed dish, which will still provide Drowsy Power but will not gain proficiency from being produced. Also, once a recipe is produced, extra items can be added without changing the dish. This can result in some very unusual circumstances if you use Auto Cook / Add Ingredients to throw in random ingredients into a dish for extra Drowsy Power, such as putting Bean Sausage into a Mixed Drink or Fiery Herbs and Greengrass Soybeans in Warm Moomoo Milk.
- Critical Hit: A few non-damaging instances:
- There's a chance upon feeding a Biscuit that the Biscuit's potency will be thrice as effective, even if the Pokémon isn't Hungry. There's an even rarer chance upon feeding a Biscuit that the Friendship Gauge instantly fills to max regardless of the Biscuit used. This will always happen with any Shiny Pokémon.
- There's a chance for the meal you cook for Snorlax to be Extra Tasty, further boosting the dish's Drowsy Power and leveling it up faster.
- The 2024 Summer Festival introduced the Candy Cram-O-Matic, which could be used up to 4 times a day to convert up to 40 Candies per session into an M-sized Candy of a random type. Sometimes, it produces two of these special Candies.
- Crutch Character: Pikachu, who is given as one of the two Starter Mons, is a surprisingly competent Berry farmer for starting players. It starts with decent carrying capacity and can generate Grepa Berries with relative haste, which can be improved upon if you spend the resources to evolve it into Raichu and happen to roll good Sub Skills. The Pikachu line falls off a bit once you make enough progress to focus on Favorite Berries and Dishes as your main method of Drowsy Power boosting, but it is very good at pumping up numbers early on even without the Favorite Berry bonus. Downplayed after the release of the Old Gold Power Plant, whose Snorlax has Grepa Berry locked in as a Favorite Berry, meaning the line has an area where it's still useful.
- A Day in the Limelight: Much like how Pokémon: Magikarp Jump primarily focuses on Magikarp, Pokémon Sleep gives the spotlight to fan-favorite Snorlax.
- Early-Bird Cameo: While the Dratini line was only added to the game in January 2024, it was possible to find a Ditto sleeping while transformed into Dragonite from day one.
- Eat Dirt, Cheap: Fitting with the Pokédex, Larvitar sometimes eats earth while sleeping. The same is true of Sableye, who sometimes falls asleep still munching on gemstones.
- Emotion Eater: As in other games’ Pokédexes, the Sleep Style Dex notes that Shuppet eat negative emotions, and posits that, if you wake up feeling happier than before, a Shuppet may have consumed your own bad feelings.
- Excuse Plot: You're simply traveling from island to island to study Pokémon sleep patterns for Professor Neroli; other than his reporting of Legendaries during limited-time events, there's nothing much else beyond that.
- Fatigue Mechanic: Each Pokémon has a Stamina gauge, which is displayed under their status in the Pokémon Box menu. Stamina depletes over the course of the day while your Pokémon are gathering Berries and Ingredients. If your Pokémon runs low on Stamina, they will become visibly tired, and if the gauge runs out, their ability to gather Berries and Ingredients drops to its absolute minimum. The only consistent way to recharge Stamina is to go to sleep, which will recharge 1% Stamina for every Pokémon in your active party for every point of Sleep Score earned. Some Pokémon also have the ability to regenerate a little bit of Stamina when their Skill is triggered by manually interacting with them, and some stamina is restored with meals. Stamina is also recharged for Pokémon in the box at a smaller percentage.
- Freemium: Players can pay real money to sign up for the Premium Pass. This gives, among other things, extra daily Sleep Points, unlimited access to past sleep data, a more potent daily Bonus Biscuit, access to the Premium Exchange, and extra monthly and tri-monthly free items.
- Gameplay Grading: At the end of the week, you're given a grade based on your overall sleep average. Grading is F, E, D, C, B, A, and S.
- Gentle Giant: As per usual, Snorlax is consistently a friendly and laid-back Pokémon, despite its immense girth.
- Gotta Catch Them All: The main goal. Not only do you have to literally catch all the Pokémon, but you also have to record every Pokémon's Sleep Style, which is random (though rarer Sleep Styles can show with higher Drowsy Power). The Pokémon you find are also based on your own Sleep Style (either Dozing, Snoozing, Slumbering, or Balanced, the last of which gives you encounters from all the aforementioned Sleep Styles).
- Green Hill Zone: Greengrass Isle is your starting location for sleep research, where a wide variety of Pokémon reside, especially Grass-types.
- Guide Dang It!: Pokémon can only spawn if they are a certain Sleep Style, meaning it can be tricky to collect all of the Pokémon. Certain events do increase certain Pokémon's appearance rates, however.
- Have a Gay Old Time: During the Cresselia vs. Darkrai event, both the professor and the in-game announcement encourage players to "sleep with" Cresselia to boost their Drowsy Power. While the term "sleeping with someone" can mean just sharing a bed with someone and spending sleep time with them, lots of people use the term as a euphemism for having sex.
- Heavy Sleeper: Besides Snorlax, there are several Pokémon whose Sleep Styles are classified as Slumbering. It's the game's term for the deepest part of the sleep cycle when tracking your sleep.
- Hidden Mechanic: Unlocking the secret Pikachu cries for the Pokémon GO Plus+ is very obtuse since they're only unlocked when certain actions happen, such as the Imitation Alarm Cry. There are no hints given anywhere in game, and the task will likely require extensive trial and error if you choose not to look up the methods on the internet.
- Holiday Mode: Starting in October 2023, the game started having special holiday-themed events for the week. Greengrass Isle is themed for the event, has special music playing, and presents an increase in a certain type of Pokémon. The Halloween and Christmas events also introduce additional Pokémon species for the game.
- Hypnotic Creature: The Sleep Style Dex claims that Pumpkaboo can hypnotize others with its light even while sleeping.
- In-Universe Game Clock: The game follows real-world time and the daylight changes accordingly as the day goes by. Morning is from 4:00AM-11:59AM, afternoon is from 12:00PM-5:59PM, while evening is from 6:00PM-3:59AM. Time-based evolutions are dependent on this (with the time window for day evolutions being from 6:00AM-5:59PM and night evolutions from 6:00PM-5:59AM) while meals can only be cooked once per time period.
- Last-Second Photo Failure: Starting at the end of February 2026 and going through March, "Mew's Snapshot Surprise" will have the Pokémon Mew will pop up in at least one random picture taken a day as part of the sleep review, and won't be seen until the photo is snapped. Mew can even cover the image of the entire Pokémon that would be in the picture.
- Luck-Based Mission: Trying to get the Pokémon you hope to seek will certainly not be an easy task, as who appears is entirely dependent on how you, the player, rests in bed at night—and sometimes there's nothing you can do to control your sleeping style.
- Lunacy:
- On August 30 - September 1, 2023, the game held its first global event, Good Sleep Day, and it has since become a recurring monthly event. It happens for three days every month near the full moon: the day before it, the day during it, and the day after it. During this, Snorlax consumes the full moon's energy to significantly boost its Drowsy Power, while the encounter rate for the Clefairy line is increased. A later update added another perk to this event, where the chances of encountering Pokémon outside your Sleep Style are increased.
- Starting in May 2025, New Moon Day, which occurs for three days around the new moon, was added as a recurring monthly event associated with Darkrai. It'll be harder for Pokémon to become full after eating the first time of the day, the chances of Shiny Pokémon are increased, Darkrai will appear for more research (and only during this time), and the Murkrow line will have an increased rate of appearance. Players who didn't play the Cresselia vs. Darkrai event will also have a chance to befriend one with higher appearances.
- Messy Hair: Quaxly's Disheveled Sleep has its coif all messed up.
- Metal Muncher: Like in other games, the Aron line feed on iron, and in this game, they sometimes do so in their sleep.
- Mundane Utility: Some Pokémon use their powerful moves for simple comfort purposes. For instance, both forms of Vulpix keep their temperature comfortably cool while sleeping by venting inner flames and exhaling cold air respectively.
- Mutually Exclusive Party Members: You can have only one Legendary or Mythical Pokémon (called "Special Pokémon" in this game) on your team at a time.
- Mythology Gag:
- Many Pokémon's sleeping habits are taken from Pokédex entries from across the series. For example, only one of Doduo's heads sleeps at a timenote , Ditto turns into a stone to avoid being attackednote , and Cubone cries in its sleepnote .
- Several Pokémon can be found sleeping on top of Snorlax's belly, reflecting its Pokédex entry in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire where it's said to be so docile that children will play on its belly.
- The game's Pokémon raising mechanics are copy pasted wholesale from Pokémon GO, including the use of Candies to increase their EXP and Evolve them as well as sending back unwanted duplicates for more Candy. Dream Shards functionally stand in as the game's version of Stardust.
- The cooking minigame takes a few cues from Pokémon Sword and Shield; namely, using a fan to fan the flames beneath the cooking pot to complete the process sooner. You can also make Curry from the aforementioned game and Big Malasada from Pokémon Sun and Moon, and many of the other dishes tend to reference some move or ability from the series.
- The Linking Cord from Pokémon Legends: Arceus makes a return for Pokémon who normally evolve via trade evolutions in the main games.
- The game's Tagline is "Rest your very best!", a reference to the first line in the anime's original theme song.
- In the "Cresselia vs. Darkrai" event, when the Global Sleep Power reached the requirement to dispel Darkrai's nightmares and allowing Darkrai to appear, the background music changes to an arrangement of the Oracion theme from Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai.
- No Antagonist: The game is entirely about taking care of this week's Snorlax with no battling whatsoever. The closest the game had to an antagonist was, fittingly, the nightmare-inducing Darkrai in the "Cresselia vs. Darkrai" event where Darkrai's nightmare abilities were affecting the islands, but it's just as clear that your goal is to save them with the help of Cresselia.
- No Fair Cheating: If you repeatedly change your device's time, the game will temporarily suspend you.
- Not Allowed to Grow Up: Various seasonal Pokémon, like Pikachu and Eevee wearing seasonal hats and Spheal with wreaths, are unable to evolve.
- Old Save Bonus: If you connect a Pokémon GO Plus+ to both Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sleep, any Poké Stops you spin in GO will reward you with bonus Berries from Nightcap Pikachu in Sleep. In addition, recording sleep data for Sleep will grant bonus rewards when you log into GO, and in GO connecting the accessory for the first time unlocks a Special Research that allows you to catch the exclusive Nightcap Snorlax.
- Palmtree Panic: Cyan Beach is the first unlockable location, which is home to many Water-type Pokémon.
- Photo Mode: The 2nd Anniversary Fest expanded the photo feature to let you take a picture of the entire campsite, not just the Pokémon.
- Play Every Day: The General Store has a daily gift, which is a random item.
- Power-Up Food: You can cook dishes for Snorlax by spending collected ingredients. This can be done with either Auto Cook (using random ingredients) or manually (picking your own ingredients); each Snorlax you encounter likes different foods, and you can only cook recipes that it likes at the time; cooking a dish for Snorlax grants bonus Drowsy Power. Cooking can also only be performed thrice per day: Daytime, Afternoon, and Night.
- Random Number God:
- The main way the game gets you to keep befriending Pokémon is randomness. When you befriend a Pokémon, it can come with five Skills, four chosen at random (the first one is set by its species), which unlock at set Level thresholds. Pokémon also have a random Nature, which are taken from the main games; with the exception of neutral Natures, every other Nature increases one skill while decreasing another. They also each have random ingredients they will gather according to their species, with the first being set.
- The Metronome Skill causes the user to trigger any other Main Skill in the game at random, just like in the main games. Much like in other media, it is also the Signature Move of the Togepi and Cleffa lines.
- Reward for Removal: The game has the same transfer mechanic as Pokémon GO and Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!'', where you can send Pokémon to the Professor in exchange for Candy.
- Scunthorpe Problem: The game's censor can be sometimes problematic, as it will prevent the player from, for example, using a variation of the name "Butterfree".
- Set Bonus:
- The unique quality of the Legendary Beasts (Entei, Raikou, and Suicune) and Cresselia, is that they can immediately make all other party members produce 2x ~ 5x the help (based on Main Skill Level) in Berries and Ingredients. The effectiveness of the Skills scale upward additively the more Pokémon of their matching types are on the team, with a fully maxed Skill plus 4 other same-type Pokémon being capable of generating 11x the help instantly.
- Darkrai's Main Skill gives Snorlax a big boost in Drowsy Power but at the cost of sapping energy from any non-Dark-type Pokémon in your party, encouraging you to form an all-Dark-type team with Darkrai.
- Shock and Awe: As usual, there are Electric-type Pokémon, and some of them even give off sparks while sleeping.
- Shown Their Work: The Totodile and Fuecoco lines sleep with one eye open in their One-Eye Sleep and Atop-Belly Sleep Styles, like real-life crocodilians.
- Sleep Cute: A lot of the game's appeal boils down to finding various Pokémon sleeping together adorably.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Snowdrop Tundra is the third unlockable location, which is a snowy island where most Ice-types reside.
- Snot Bubble: Munna's Dream Mist Sleep has it spewing its mist like a bubble.
- Socialization Bonus: Adding friends will earn you Pokémon candy based on what photo they chose for their research. Leveling up your friendship levels gives both you and your friends rewards such as Handy Candy.
- Starter Mon: You are given a Pikachu at the start of the game to work with. After recording your first sleeping session, you will be given the opportunity to befriend one of the Kanto starters, depending on your Sleep Style during that session: Bulbasaur for Dozing, Charmander for Snoozing, Squirtle for Slumbering.
- Stat Overflow: Pokémon with max 100 Energy or more can still gain 1 Energy from meals, but after that it can't be increased further.
- Super-Effective Lullaby: In keeping with the mainline games, the Sleep Style Dex mentions that Jigglypuff’s singing induces sleep.
- Supering in Your Sleep: Numerous examples, often as part of three-star sleep styles:
- Butterfree sometimes accidentally scatters its toxic scales while sleeping.
- The Pikachu line occasionally discharge electricity in their sleep, as do Plusle, Minun, the Pawmi line, and the Shinx line.
- Both forms of Vulpix use their powers to adjust the temperature while sleeping, using Ember and Powder Snow respectively.
- Mr. Mime and Mime Jr. can pantomime objects into existence while sleeping, even sleeping on a mimed bed at times.
- The Cyndaquil line sometimes produce flames from their bodies while sleeping.
- Houndoom sometimes breathes fire while asleep, as does Salamence.
- Absol's danger sensing abilities are said to be strong even while it sleeps.
- Abomasnow can conjure blizzards by swinging its arms, which it sometimes does while sleeping.
- Darkrai has been observed using Dark Void while asleep.
- Tastes Like Friendship: You "catch" Pokémon in this game by giving them Biscuits. Biscuits come in Poké Biscuit, Great Biscuit, Ultra Biscuits, and Master Biscuit varieties, with each subsequent tier granting a bigger boost to the Friendship Gauge. There's also the daily Bonus Biscuit which is equivalent to a Great for free players and a little more (+4) for subscription players. Giving a Pokémon a Master Biscuit immediately maxes the gauge out, while a Pokémon that is particularly hungry will triple the boosts it gets from eating Biscuits the first time. However, you cannot truly skip Snack Time as any leftover Bonus Biscuits will be fed to a random Pokémon if you do so.
- Temporary Online Content: The game sometimes holds 1-2-week-long events, which provide special boosts such as increasing the encounter rate of certain Pokémon and providing limited-time mechanics that help you boost EXP. Sometimes, the monthly Good Sleep Day and New Moon Day events overlap with these, stacking their unique boostsnote on the others.
- The Halloween event, held during the week of Halloween, doubles all the Pokémon Candies gathered from Sleep Research in Greengrass Isle and gives you the chance to befriend special Pikachu wearing Halloween hats, which can't evolve. The 2025 event added special Eevee wearing Halloween hats.
- During Eevee Week—held the week of November 21stnote —Eevee and its Evolutions had a higher chance of appearing. On the first event in 2023, sleeping every day of the event earned a bonus 1121 Sleep Points, while the 2024 event only gave you the bonus Sleep Points on Eevee Day itself.
- The Christmas event doubles all the Dream Shards gathered from Sleep Research in Greengrass Isle and gives you the chance to befriend special Pikachu wearing Santa hats, which can't evolve. In the first event, sleeping every day also granted a bonus 1225 Sleep Points, while the second event gave you Dream Gifts on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and also had special Eevee wearing Santa hats. The third event introduces a special Spheal wearing a wreath on its head.
- Sleeping during the first week of 2024 had a higher chance for Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, and a bonus 2024 points for recording sleep every day that week.
- To celebrate the addition of Lapis Lakeside, an event was held on Greengrass Isle from January 29 - February 12, 2023, where the Dratini, Ralts, and Stufful lines can also be encountered there so that players who haven't unlocked Lapis Lakeside yetnote can have the chance to befriend them.
- On Valentine's Day, Snorlax's favorite foods are set to Drinks/Desserts, and Extra Tasty meals are worth even more bonus Drowsy Power. The 2025 event also increased the encounter rate of Pokémon who specialize in gathering certain ingredients for the new dishes introduced during it.
- The Legendary Beast events in 2024 allowed you to collect Manes from Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, which can be exchanged for special items such as Incenses that attract the Beasts and Biscuits that fill their Friendship Meter faster than regular ones. After the events, the Beasts can still be encountered in specific areas, but extremely rarely.
- The 2024 Summer Festival had the Candy Cram-O-Matic, which which could be used up to 4 times a day to convert up to 40 Candies per session into an M-sized Candy of a random type.
- An event celebrating the addition of Old Gold Power Plant was held on Greengrass Isle from October 7-21, 2024, where the Aron, Shinx, and Grubbin lines can also be encountered there so that players who haven't unlocked Old Gold Power Plant yetnote can have the chance to befriend them.
- The 2025 New Year event increased the likelihood of Pokémon introduced in the previous yearnote to appear. It also allowed certain Pokémon to appear in Greengrass Islenote during the event, and the Candy Cram-O-Matic returned in the event's second week.
- Super Skill Week, which was held from January 20-27, 2025, boosted the frequency and power of Main Skills of Skill Specialists and also increased their encounter rate. It also introduced the Mini Candy Boost, a version of the recurring Candy Boost mechanic that uses fewer Dream Shards than it to boost the amount of EXP Candies give, making it more accessible to newbies.
- Like the Legendary Beast events, the Cresselia vs. Darkrai event, held from March 31-April 14, 2025, had you collecting Cresselia Down in exchange for special Incenses and Biscuits to attract and befriend Cresselia easily. After the event, it could still be encountered in specific areas, albeit extremely rarely. The event also had Global Drowsy Power, which all players could collaborate on to help dispel Darkrai's nightmares and receive big rewards for each tier completed.
- On November 10-24, 2025, an event celebrating the addition of Amber Canyon was held on Greengrass Isle. Like the other events celebrating the addition of new locations, Pokémon exclusive to Amber Canyon such as the Trapinch line, the Bagon line, and the Dwebble line, temporarily showed up on Greengrass Isle as well, although less frequently than in Amber Canyon itself.
- Too Awesome to Use: Main Skill Seeds and Sub Skill Seeds. The former raises a Pokémon's main skill by one level and the latter raises a subskill to blue tier. While the Main Skill Seed can be purchased (3400 Sleep Points or 1800 for premium members), they are very expensive to buy and Sub Skill Seeds can only be bought by premium members for 1400 Sleep Points. Special events may sometimes give the seeds out as free gifts, but it's quite rare. This results in a lot of players saving their seeds for a potential good Pokémon down the line, which also resulted in some players having dozens of seeds sitting in their inventory if they still haven't befriended a Pokémon with optimal skills.
- Tummy Cushion: Various Pokémon can be found sleeping on top of Snorlax's belly at higher sleep star levels.
- Uncatty Resemblance: While he doesn't own any of the Snorlax that are on the islands, Professor Neroli bears an uncanny resemblance to Snorlax thanks to his rotund figure, hairstyle, and eyes always being closed. He even wears a Snorlax styled sleep mask.
- Underground Level: Taupe Hollow is the second unlockable location, which is a mountainside cave full of Rock and Ground-type Pokémon.
- Unique Enemy: Unlike Legendaries, which spawn at extremely low encounter rates after their events, Mythicals can only be obtained exactly once per player in events.
- Warm Milk Helps You Sleep: One of the possible food items you can make is the Warm Moomoo Milk, apt for a Heavy Sleeper like Snorlax.
- Wolverine Publicity: Though Snorlax is the main Pokémon in the game, Pikachu's the one used for official artwork.
- X-Ray Vision: The Sleep Style Dex mentions Luxray’s x-ray vision, noting that using this ability tires it out.
- Your Mime Makes It Real: Mr. Mime and Mime Jr. demonstrate their abilities in their Barrier-Bed sleep style, sleeping on an invisible bed they mimed into existence.
