Biolab Wars is a Run-and-Gun Platform Game developed and published by Kolibri Game Studio (now named 2ndBoss).
An alien spaceship has just appeared above the city. What's the government to do? Send in a team of three mercenaries to stop them, of course. So, the team (a man, a woman, and a dog in a robot suit) are sent on a mission to bring down the alien spaceship.
The game was released on August 23rd, 2019.
Biolab Wars contains examples of the following tropes:
- The '80s: The game is set in 1985.
- Attack Drone: One powerup is a chicken that shoots lasers.
- Bears Are Bad News: Boss six, Big Boy, is a polar bear in power armor.
- Big Bad: Ubaba Omkhulu is the main antagonist and Final Boss.
- Defeat Equals Explosion: All the enemies you beat explode in a cluster of orange clouds.
- Elevator Action Sequence: You fight the third boss, Skull Guardian, in a rising elevator.
- Enfante Terrible: The second boss, Baby Trucker, is a purple baby riding a truck. He's also the Wake-Up Call Boss by having two attacks you actually have to dodge.
- Every Car Is a Pinto: In the second stage, every vehicle you shoot enough explodes.
- Multi-Mook Melee: In Stage 2, you're riding a bike and shooting down enemies as they enter the screen.
- Retraux: The whole game is done in 8-bit. From graphics, to sound, to music.
- Rule of Three: There are three mercenaries to play as, and you start out the game with three lives.
- Snakes Are Sinister: One of the enemies you face in the game include snakes. You can only shoot them by getting down on your belly.
- Timed Mission: Each level gives you two minutes to complete. Luckily, the levels are relatively short.
- Tomboyish Ponytail: Becca has her hair done in a ponytail, and is one of the mercenaries.
- Warm-Up Boss: The first boss, Mama Alien, is immobile and only attacks by releasing slow and easily destroyable worms.
- Wave-Motion Gun: Throughout Stage 7-2, you have to dodge a massive instant-death laser. Destroy the laser emitter to move on to the second-to-last boss.
