High School (original Polish "Szkoła") is a Polish TV series set in a fictional school in the city of Kraków. Each episode tells two seperate stories of a group of students or teachers, generally one from the gymnasium and one from the lyceum. Very commonly, students from previous episodes return in later ones.
The show provides examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Several students do have either abusive mom or dad and sometimes it's main plot of the episode (though, a character with an abusive parent generally doesn't reveal it to anyone until last 10 minutes of the episode).
- The very first example is Andrzej Jackowski, father of Szymon Jackowski. He makes a brief appearance in second episode when we already see he is clearly an abusive father but makes far more prominent appearance in episode 14 where the full extent of his abuse of his wife and son is seen. And when he sees website about domestic abuse, he loses his temper and starts physically assaulting his own wife and when Szymon attempts to defend his mother, Andrzej pushes him against the wall which lands Szymon in hospital. He still feels no remorse for it and blames his wife on that and gets arrested by police at the end (and still thinks he did nothing wrong).
- Episode 17 has two examples for two separate stories. One story focuses on Amelia Maćkowiak and her mother forcing her to make a career of a model. Which Amelia doesn’t want to do. And she even goes as far as to force Amelia to pose naked in from of grown men and have her photos taken. The other story has a much more straightforward example and it focuses on a pyromaniac boy Marcin Długosz whose father constantly beats him and his mother at every opportunity.
- Father of Ida Piątek in episode 29 constantly gets drunk and beats Ida and her mother constantly. When PE teacher Tomasz Dudziak learns of it, he visits Ida and her parents at their apartment where he calls the police, apprehends an abusive father before police arrives and takes him away.
- Wojtek Malczyk in episode 100 also has an abusive father. Although, the abuse is never actually directly seen onscreen, Wojtek does have scars which he initially refuses to say what they are from. He later outright attempts to committ suicide. Wojtek comes to school to hide from his abusive father and when the father comes to school, Wojtek's friend Patryk stands up for him and the father says "If you were my son, I would teach you discipline!" At the end of the episode, headmaster Stanisław Chlebowski calls police and both Wojtek and his mother ultimately confess how they are abused. It's stated police arrested the abusive father.
- Although, he was initially an abusive husband only, in episode 284, the father of Trojan brothers (Maciej “Maciek” and Krzysztof “Krzysiek”), does everything in power to get hold of his sons back. Older brother Maciek wants nothing to do with him but younger brother Krzysiek misses his father who never abused him and the father even gets him a video game console that his mother couldn’t afford. But then he punches Krzysiek in the face and tells him to lie that his mother beats him. At the end he resorts to trying to outright murder Krzysiek after the latter finally sees him for what a truly horrible person his father really is.
- In episode 331, Edyta Chojnowska meets a mysterious boy who isn’t a student of the school but hides from an abusive alcoholic father whose money he stole. Edyta falls in love with Mikołaj and decides to help him. When he loses his personal ID, she goes to his house only to get kidnapped and locked by Mikołaj’s abusive father who wants his money back.
- Episode 404 has a more mild example but Anna Kaczmarczyk, mother of Milena Kaczmarczyk is also is an example even if somewhat downplayed one. She constantly puts Milena down and makes Milena feel terrible about everything. She keeps telling Milena she needs to lose weight, makes her constantly feel guilty about her grades (which actually aren't that bad; just not perfect), insults her looks... which makes Milena feel very insecure about herself (even if her friends constantly try to tell her compliments). That also leads to Milena finally attempt to committ suicide and this is the point where Anna has Heel Realization and becomes far more supportive of her daughter since deep down, she always loved Milena and thought she was doing best for her.
- Episode right after though, 405, has a much more clear and straightforward example. Father of Mateusz Wosiak who as a result of an abuse, has run away from home. Mateusz doesn't even share his situation with anyone, though, friends and teachers notice his behavior being unusual and Mateusz wearing the same clothes few days in a row. Vice Principal Maria Borkowska finally calls his parents to school and Mateusz's father instead of showing concern for his son, instead plans on punishing him again for "getting in trouble" again and even attacks Maria Borkowska when she threatens to call police. It takes PE teacher Tomasz Dudziak to restrain him. In the end, Mateusz and his mom get put under domestic care while the father has his parenting rights restricted.
- Father of Janka Lipowska in episode 468 is another example. He constantly beats Janka and forces her to study and one bad grade is enough to get him to beat her. Even when Janka gets a 4 in her IT class (Polish equivalent of B grade actually) while rest of class gets a 1 (F), he resorts to beating her. Biology teacher Barbara Gruszka calls him to school which gets him so angry and makes him later attack Janka's boyfriend. Later he is arrested.
- The worst is the father of Iwona Swierczyńska in episode 592. He regularly rapes his own daughter and she feels she can't talk to anyone about it. Iwona's mother is also this to a smaller extent as she is well aware of it, but is so afraid of her husband, that she outright lets him do it. At the end, both parents are arrested and Iwona goes to live with her aunt.
- Father of Kwiatkowski brothers in episode 710 also counts even if he never shows up onscreen actually. Karol Kwiatkowski and Mateusz are both tired of him but they don't want to end in orphanage so they don't tell anyone anything. Unfortunately, that also makes them easy targets of a human trafficker who offers them better life in Germany when in reality, he wants to sell them to slavery. At the end, abusive father has his parenting rights taken away, human trafficker is arrested, and brothers live with their aunt.
- In episode 756, we have a mother of Tosia Bujak. Around other people, she pretends to be a loving and caring mother but as soon as she and Tosia are alone, she turns Tosia's life into living hell and humaliates her at every opportunity and psychologically abuses her. Tosia states she does it physically as well at home, though outside of pushing Tosia against the wall, it's not seen onscreen. Ultimately, Tosia goes to live with her father whom takes Tosia after learning how abusive the mother is and tells Tosia that her mother was always very insecure person who takes her anger out on people closest to her and that's why he divorced her.
- Actually Not a Vampire: Played for Laughs. In episode 142, there is a new student Damian Błaszczyk who dresses in black, always wears sunglasses, and is driven to school by limousine that has coffins. 3 students from gymnasium, assume him to be vampire. In reality, his parents simply have a funeral home and reason he wears sunglasses is because his eyes are sick. He himself finds it really funny when he learns of that.
- Adults Are Useless: The show seems to go to great lenghts to avert this trope, especially in relation to teachers. Students when they have a problem tend to hide it from parents and teachers but the former tend to be helpful (outside of Abusive Parents; see above) while latter always turn out to be very helpful. (see Reasonable Authority Figure below)
- All Love Is Unrequited: Pretty common trope. Sometimes things turn around and the love target does reciprocate feelings and sometimes nothing happens and the rejected student moves on.
- Alpha Bitch: Iwona Małkowska is a spoiled rich girl who just loves to constantly humiliate other students and thinks she is better than everyone else. And she is pretty popular and even later, she outright starts a business where she humiliated others for money. And by her own admission, she enjoys every second of it. Matylda Przybylska also qualifies big time. She loves to cruelly bully people whom are unfortunate and especially in episode 26 where she cruelly bullies Paulina Markiewicz all because she is overweight. When later, it turns out Paulina has a good heart and volunteers for sick children after school, whole class including Matylda's boyfriend and her two friends who up to this point, bullied Paulina together with Matylda, become friends with Paulina and admire her, while Matylda can't comprehend why would anyone "like a fat girl" and sarcastically calls her "Mother Theresa".
- Ambiguously Bi: In-universe, while for fans it seems almost certain. Gosia Król is a lesbian and has a girlfriend Paulina Bagińska. In episode 375, she starts having feelings for a new guy at school and at the end she comes to debate her sexuality if she truly prefers women or men, and chooses to be single for a while but be friends with both.
- Apathetic Teacher: Karina Kłosek tends to come off as this. She is very strict, isn't liked among students and she constantly rants how students are spoiled and have no respect for education. Plus, when one student causes trouble, she generally punishes whole class. That said, she has good intentions even if that always isn't shown.
- A Nazi by Any Other Name: Błażej Rawicki is basically a very literal version of this trope. He isn’t officially a neo-nazi (or at least isn’t revealed to be) but he spouts very anti-Semitic views and goes out his way to bully a Jewish student Marcel Gabrycki (his former friend) hoping to get him to change schools. And he is a huge homophobe as well. Plus, he even looks like stereotypical Nazi image; a tall very blond skinny guy with blue eyes (likely intentional).
- Broad Strokes: The show got a sequel series “19+” about school’s alumni and plenty of cast members return, and even school together with teachers make few guest appearances. Plus there are even callbacks to “High School”. But plenty of things have changed such as a mom of Lucyna Kruczek dying when she was a teenagers (whereas in High School, she makes an appearance), first episode beggining with Irek Sobczak graduating (despite the fact that in episode 109, he was expelled and arrested), some characters having a different personality and Iwona Małkowska going from having rich parents to having an alchoholic mother. Those things are outright contradictory. Irek Sobczak getting accepted into law school in “19+” muddies waters futher since in Poland it would impossible with his actions in episode 109. While it’s clear that those are meant to be same characters and events at school happening, the plenty of changes makes it questionable how canon “19+” actually is to “High School”.
- Badass Teacher: PE Teacher Tomasz Dudziak is this. He is a Nice Guy who is very supportive of his students and with his PE skills, he also is able to overpower school bullies. Andrzej Lesicki too. He is a physics teacher but he has been proven to hold his couple of times like in episode 27 he was able to physically restrain two drug dealers who threaten two of his students with knives.
- Big Brother Bully: Aleks Widera is very much this to his younger sister Honorata. He loves to dominate her and control her life. He claims it's for her own good, but really, he just loves feeling powerful and dominating her.
- The Bully: Show up in many episodes; some bullies are just jerks; but some border on outright sociopath. Examples include:
- In the very first episode we get inroduced to Adrian Kubacki and his girlfriend Ula Gładysz as well as her friend Milena Mróz. They are inroduced as school bullies right away and like preying on younger students. Though, they actually undergo Character Development and become much nicer people later in the show.
- Iwona Małkowska is also one of the first bullies introduced and one of most recurring ones. She is of Alpha Bitch variety. Simillar with Matylda Przybylska. (See Alpha Bitch for more information of both girls).
- Tymon Budziński who makes his first appearance as a supporting antagonist to his friend Jan Zawisza and they both record a video of a simulated rape on a girl. He gets far more prominent role in his next appearance where he is a Villain Protagonist and first he locks claustaphobic younger student in a closet which lands a boy in a hospital and when Teresa Kremer calls his dad, he gets revenge by putting glass into her bag. He gets expelled but even then he returns in episode 145 where he outright wants to kill Teresa Kremer whom he blames for his expulsion. And he attempts to use Maks Nowacki to do it and threatens his girlfriend Dagmara Wilk.
- Szczepan Kita demolishes a shelter together with his friend Eugieniusz “Gienek” Zielonka during school trip and intimidate their classmates into being quiet. And together they both put the head into the sink of Paweł Sitek, the one classmate who stood up to them. In his next appearance, Szczepan uses his girlfriend Marzena Gabisz to torment her friend Jagoda (who didn’t have any friends before) and when Jagoda loses it and slaps him, he resorts to trying to make her take drugs. Unlike most bullies, he suffers no onscreen commepuence for it other than Marzena finally breaking up with him. And he never returned aftewards.
- Szczepan's aformentioned friend Gienek Zielonka is one too. He demolished the shelter together with Szczepan and they both intimidate whole class into silence, and assault aforementioned Paweł Sitek, after latter told the truth to his father. And in subsquent appearances he isn't a particularly nice guy and while he doesn't go out his way to prey on younger students, he does view them as beneath him, and demands them to respect him regardless how much he didn't earn it.
- And Szczepan's aformentioned girlfriend Marzena Gabisz also could be seen as an example. While it's implied that before meeting Szczepan she was a Nice Girl, she does everything to impress him and bullies Jagoda Zabłocka, her best friend. She does eventually break-up with Szczepan after he attempts to force Jagoda to take drugs, but that experience seems to have tought her nothing and she still is very much willing to throw her friends under the bus for her personal benefits. And in episode 283, she psychologically and physically abuses her new boyfriend.
- Monika Barańska always finds another victim in every episode she appears. It tends to end badly humaliating for her but she eventually accepts she isn't liked and embraces it and continues to be mean to other students and even gains some popuality. Later, she even goes as far as to frame another girl by throwing dead dog under her car. And she is proud of it since whole school fears her.
- Marika Wroniecka is like a younger version of Monika Barańska. Like Monika, Marika thinks she better then everyone else and loves to bully and humaliate others she doesn't like. One of her worst acts is when Patrycja Mularz wants to befriend her and is nothing but nice for Marika and even takes the fault on herself after Marika destroys coat of Jolanta Żabińska but Marika only uses it as a way to continue avoid getting in trouble but still doesn't respect Patrycja one bit and is willing to get her in trouble. Another time, she dehumanizes students who were born from in-vitro fertlization. She is one of those example though that becomes far nicer person later.
- Darek Teodorczyk is a very mean bully in several episodes and enjoys getting into fights and tormenting younger students and demands money from them. And he doesn’t hesitate to use physical violence. He even once brings a knife to school that quickly that's confiscated. Darek is also very big and strong so it makes him even more dangerous. Like Adrian Kubacki though, he becomes much nicer later and accepts his friend who comes out as gay (albeit begrudgingly), and later even saves a girl from being raped.
- Dominik Łuczak is another example and he is even part of Darek's gang at some point. He likes to harass younger students and demand their respect as well as things like money. In episode 419, he steals a loaded gun of his friend's father and uses it to get what he wants. While Dominik says that he doesn't want to kill anyone, simply having the gun in his hands, is enough to get people to be afraid of him. And in episode 582, when his younger brother Krzysiek is in love with Nadia who chooses a foreigner Abib Haddad, Dominik starts being racist towards Abib despite Krzysiek making it very clear his dislike of Abib has nothing to do with race, and he doesn't approve of his older brother's racism.
- Dawid Gniadek is another of Darek's friends and he is a nasty bully on his own. In episode 579, he puts drugs into drink of Roksana Wilczak so he could have sex with her and runs away when Roksana starts feeling bad. Dawid Gniadek admits he didn't want her to get hurt but seems more concerned about saving his own skin from consequence then Roksana's well-being. And in episode 583, he harasses Paulina Domańska and her new boyfriend. Paulina being a former bully herself, punches him in the face since she doesn't believe in snitching but Dawid gathers friends from outside and they take Paulina hostage and gang up on her boyfriend. In episode 596, he helps Darek Teodorczyk harassing younger students and under Darek's orders agrees to beat them up, when they tell the principle.
- Błażej Rawicki too. In episode 605 he is revealed to be a gigantic anti-Semite who goes out his way to bully Marcel Gabrycki, his former friend all because Marcel revealed to be Jewish. And he is a strong homophobe as well when later, a girl raised by lesbians comes to school and she is shamed of that but Błażej finds out and blackmails her to give him money or else he will reveal her secret only to do it anyway.
- Yet, another example is Alex Widera. In addition to being a Big Brother Bully to Honorata Widera, he also loves to prey on much younger and smaller boys then him, demand their sandwiches and is willing to use physical violence on them.
- Krzysztof "Krzysiek" Lisowski is yet, another pretty good example. He likes to prey on younger students and enjoys every minute of it. When he learns two younger boys are friends of his younger brother Marcin, Krzysiek doesn't care and very much thinks of them as weaklings and gleefully hits them and later asks Marcin to do it. In episode 800, he uses feelings of Anna Tkaczyk to use her. She is in love with Krzysiek while he sets her up in an illegal fight for school to watch.
- Call-Back: Generally, when a student who previously appeared in the show returns for their next appearance, events from their previous appearance are referenced.
- The Casanova: Several examples.
- Oskar Kamiński is this and even gets called that at one point. He tends to often cheat on his girlfriends behind their back. He also loves to get violent with other guys who like same girls as he does.
- A far more nasty example is Filip Gralak who loves to use girls feelings for him to just have sex with them and feels no ounce of remorse for it. When Magdalena Lach breaks up with him after finding it out, he takes revenge by showing naked pictures of her online.
- Possibly even more nasty then Filip Gralak, is Filip Blecharczyk. He often cheats on his "current" girlfriend and doesn't even hide it and when the girls do same thing to him, he suddenly gets violent with boys that romance them and says he is a guy can, but girls can't. Especially when Tosia Cyc breaks up with him and chooses a different boyfriend, he calls her a "slut" online to humaliate her.
- Arek Daniluk is this to a smaller extent. He is a playboy and he very much loves to date different girls and doesn't like the idea of remaining faithul to any of them, but he is far nicer and closer to The Charmer (see below).
- Ewa Karasiewicz is a female version of this trope.
- The Charmer: Arek Daniluk is well-know as school playboy who likes to flirt and date different girls. Anytime he walks up to a girl, his charm generally works. He states his father is the same and hence why he divorced Arek's mother. Unlike above aformentioned Casanova examples, Arek admits to never be faithful to any girl, but he also believes in being honest with them in contrast to Oskar who loves officially having a girlfriend while also cheating on her behind her back. And unlike Filip Blecharczyk, Arek is very supportive of girls who romance other guys.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: There were some students who made very brief one-note appearances or appearances in few episodes but later never come back. Though, there is one really prominent example that's very much an inversion and playing it straight. Aleksander "Olek" Szumski is one of the most reccuring students in the show but in episode 625, his older sister Karolina Szumska makes an appearance and is revealed to be a student at school. She was never mentioned or alluded before. And that's also her very first and last appearance and she never comes back nor she is ever mentioned ever again. It's even more confusing for fans since later Olek's younger brother Igor makes an appearance.
- Continuity Drift: Couple times. For example, in episode 519 Dagmara Wilk's younger sister Zuza Wilk comes to school and Dagmara wants to teach her younger sister to be just like her. And she becomes a prominent character afterwards. However, episode 20 which is Dagmara's debut episode, heavily focuses on Dagmara's personal life and struggle with her parents divorce and there is no indication that Dagmara has any siblings at all.
- In episode 49, protagonist is Edyta Chojnowska and it is stated that in addition to her, her parents have two younger sons. However, later Edyta having two younger brothers is never ever mentioned again, and instead, Edyta has an older brother Grzegorz.
- Big one happens with Kasia Stępień. She is a lesbian and goes to 3d Lyceum in episode 76, which is a graduating class. In episode 281 which chronolovslly is already next school year, she suddenly attends same class as her current girlfriend Gosia Król which is actually 2d Lyceum while at this point, she shouldn’t even be at school let alone, class lower. It’s even more confusing when in episode 375, Gosia Król now has a new girlfriend from her class Paulina Bagińska with Kasia nowhere in sight. One cannot help but wonder if Paulina maybe was supposed to be Gosia’s girlfriend all along.
- The show also got sort of sequel series called 19+ about many students from that school and their post-school life. Plenty of students got far bigger role in that show but also some things have clearly been changed. For example, Iwona Małkowska is presented as a rich spoiled brat who just loves to humaliate other people cause she views them as beneath her. In 19+, her personality is pretty much the same but now she is given Hidden Depths that her mother is alcoholic. While this certainly makes her far more sympathetic, it's also contradictory to what "High School" established about her.
- Cool Teacher: Most teachers are supportive and liked by their students but Barbara Gruszka is most liked among students with how lenient and compassionate she is.
- Darker and Edgier: The show got sequel/spin-off series called 19+ which focuses on students post-school life. And the show did far more dark and matured things such as killing off some characters. While High School did in fact put some characters/ students in life-threatening situations, at the end, characters always ended up surviving and getting better. 19+ doesn't hesitate to kill some characters off like Kamil Pawlak dying in a car crash. Which also can make watching episodes in High School with him, harder to watch. Again though, it's debatable how canon 19+ actually is to High School with the quantity of incosistencies and contradictions (See Broad Strokes).
- Dragon Ascendant: Sort of. Tymon Budziński starts as a bully together with his friend Jan Zawisza, but it's Jan Zawisza who does most of the bullyuing with Tymon gleefully supporting him. In episode 27 when they both do a video with a simulated rape on Marta Dobrowolska, it's Jan and a third bully who actually do the whole physical part, while Tymon is simply holding a camera. At the end of the episode though, Jan Zawisza gets expelled (and never shows up again) and Tymon returns in episode 80 as a full villain protagonist and this is when we finally learn what a sociopath he really is.
- Dragon-in-Chief: Sort of. In episode 660, a 7th grader Tomasz Rudnicki sells calendars with naked pictures of his older sister Marlena Rudnicka. Two graduating bullies, Dawid Gniadek and his friend, choose to buy one. Tomek sells it to them, but doesn’t approve how they start insulting his sister. Things get far worse when the bullies start sexually harassing Marlena and Tomek attempts to save his sister but they are much stronger than him and easily restrain him while still trying to harass Marlena. While Tomek did sell then the calendar, he didn’t want them to start actually hurting his sister, but at the point, he couldn’t do anything against two guys much bigger and stronger then him. It takes biology teacher Barbara Gruszka to inferere.
- Eagleland: America is mentioned many times. Melania Trzeciak sees it as type 1 and dreams of going there someday to become an actress. So does Jadzia Stefaniak who wants to go to college there and study science (and she does eventually). Justyna Dudek actually even gets sent there as an exchange student and makes few appearances on phone while talking to her boyfriend Adrian Kubacki. There are even two exchange students from America, Kamil Jackson and later Will Martin. Episode 95 though very much plays type 2, where a former student comes to school with a gun and attempts to shoot, and physics teacher Andrzej Lesicki says "This is the type of stuff that you only hear on tv happening in American schools.”
- Early-Installment Weirdness: Every episode focuses on two stories of different students on the same day. That said, very first episode which was the beggining of the school year, had three. Justified since it was beggining of the year and the show, so show had to establish the characters.
- Et Tu, Brute?: Episode 70 Jagoda Zabłocka and Marzena Gabisz are best friends but Marzena is dating a school bully Szczepan Kita who doesn't like Jagoda and decides to bully her and Marzena gleefully joins him with the bullying to impress him. Of course, Jagoda's reaction is this. It's especially tragic that Jagoda states that Marzena was her first real friend whom she thought she could trust.
- Eviler than Thou: Couple times but most examples were closer to "Jerkier Than Thou" since most characters involved in that trope weren't actually evil; just mean bullies.
- One example is in episode 70 with Szczepan Kita ending up as this to his girlfriend Marzena Gabisz. He loves to bully her friend Jagoda Zabłocka and Marzena in order to impress him, starts bullying her as well. Worse, yet, some of the ideas she actually comes up with, after which Szczepan gleefully does with her. It's only after Szczepan attemps to force Jagoda to take drugs when Marzena finally sees what a bully Szczepan is and she does break up with him. Though, her friendship with Jagoda is permenantly over while Szczepan doesn't seem to mind, and even starts bullying Marzena.
- Very straight and clear example would be in episode 156, where new student Patryk Kozub teams up with Gienek Zielonka against Anna Turczyn since they both have grudge against her; Patryk is mad that she took away his tablet while Gienek is sick of all the bad grades. However, it soon becomes clear that Patryk is a lot more psychopathic and ends up trying to kill Anna Turczyn at the point where Gienek no longer wants anything to do with him. Episode ends with Patryk getting expelled and returning as a dangerous criminal in episode 239 (and getting arrested at the end), while Gienek choosing to change and improve his grades and behavior.
- Also in episode 422, this is perfect example "Jerkier Than Thou" since neither of those characters is actually evil, but Iwona Małkowska attempts to do it on equally self-centered Cezary Wanat. Iwona created a business of humaliating people for money and gets hired by Kaja Mielczarek whom Cezary Wanat just dumped in a very humaliating way, so for revenge she hires Iwona to humaliate him. Iwona feels very confident and attempts to do it... but instead she ends on the opposite end of the trope since it is Cezary who humaliates her instead. She promises revenge and keeps trying to humaliate him only for Cezary to constantly laugh her off and being one to humaliate her instead. Initially she seeks revenge only to realize she has feelings for Cezary and they end up kissing and dating. Which also freaks out Kaja Mielczarek and compares them to "couple of serial killers".
- Maciej Petrus ends up on both ends of this trope. First in his debut episode 548, his younger cousin Cezary Petrus who was one of the bullies up to this point, idolizes Maciek and together they like to participate in deliquent actions. When Maciek steals money for sick children, Cezary starts having doubts though but still helps Maciej. When Cezary's step-sister Daria tries to thwart their plan, Maciek attempts to poison her but Cezary then exposes him and no longer associates with him. In 647, Maciej is friends with a nasty bully Alex Widera who loves to constantly dominate and abuse his younger sister Honorata. It's clear that Maciej doesn't approve of Alex's bullying and when Alex decides to savagely beat Honorata's new boyfriend, Maciek doesn't want to help him and only agrees because Alex threatens Maciek that this way, he would get on his bad side (and it's pretty clear Alex is not the type of guy on whose bad side you would like to be).
- In episode 800, Krzysztof "Krzysiek" Lisowski does this very much to Anna Tkaczyk. She has a crush on him and Krzysiek acts like he loves her and sets her up to fight her former friend Maja Borowiak whom Anna is in conflict with. When Maja refuses, Krzysiek sets Anna up to fight a criminal which Anna agrees. They agree to share money. At the end, Anna ends up savagely beaten while Krzysiek abandons her and takes almost all the money for himself. Anna regrets her actions and makes up with Maja while Krzysiek is arrested.
- Fiery Redhead: Iwona Małkowska is a popular rich spoiled brat who likes to humaliate other students at every opportunity and if you aren't friends with her... you wish you were never born. And her hair is very red.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Eliza Romaniuk is a responsible sibling to her two younger brothers Wojtek and Adam. Eliza as the oldest is expected to look after them while Adam and Wojtek like playing stupid pranks knowing that their older sister will always get them out of trouble. They even blow a petard in the bathroom. This is the point where Eliza chooses to not help them and instead hopes they finally learn their lesson. Suprisingly inverted with same siblings in episode 836. Now, it's Eliza who is naive and foolish and tries to see goodness in her father, while Wojtek sees what a horrible person their father really is.
- The Gambler: In episode 48, Marek Kozioł forms a secret gambling club under guise of a "modeling club". As a result, he isn't willing to let any new members since he doesn't want anyone to find out about his secret gambling club. Marek wishes someday to go to United States and win the gambling tournament. When history teacher Zbigniew Małek does learn of the truth about "modeling club", he disbands the group. Marek just treats it as "loss" and forms a new gambling club with new members and decides to meet with them outside of school.
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Some girls get pregnant in the show (see Teen Pregnancy). They almost always choose to have a baby. Some do contemplate to have an abortion but at the end, they generally choose against it. On the other hand, girls who are bullies, while none of them got pregnant in the show, Andżelika Sowa for example, very much said she would immediatly get an abortion and outright encouraged Justyna Dudek to have it.
- Hate Sink: Plenty of students are jerks and there are even some sociopaths (see Teens Are Monsters on main page) and there are some characters whom audience would just outright want to torture and prime example would be mother of Justyna Dudek in episode 356. She abandoned her daughter when Justyna was only 6, and when she lost her job abroad and returned to Poland she outright chose to manipulate Justyna and take all her money that Justyna was saving for college. She lied to Justyna with fake apology and pretended to be sick while also laughing at her naivity to her lover. Thankfully, Adrian Kubacki witnessed the conversation and helped Justyna see the truth. That woman is so awful that when Andżelika Sowa, an Alpha Bitch and one of the show's biggest jerks, says to Justyna how she would force her to beg her for forgiveness, you can't help but actually agree with her and see it as her Pet the Dog moment.
- If there is a student example, best example would be Marcin Jurczak and Paweł Strojecki from episode 351. They attempt to rape Kasia Wawrzyniak and later intimidate her into being quiet which she obliges. To intimidate her further though, they kill her dog and threaten her baby sister, which is what backfires on them since at that point, Kasia chooses to ultimately tell what happened. Paweł is slightly worse since he does confess to principle Stanisław Chlebowski... but it's clear there is no ounce of regret in him, just pure fear and hope for more lenient punishment.
- While there are plenty of abusive parents in the show, mother of Tosia Bujak is one of the worst. The way she just psychologically abuses her own daughter and worse yet, pretends to be a loving and supportive mother when she is around people makes it impossible to not want to punch her. Combine that with how she refuses to see herself being in the wrong and tries to play victim when people call her out on her abusive behavior and you have one of the most unlikeable abusive parents in the show.
- And in episode 836, alcoholic father of Eliza Romaniuk and her brother Wojtek is also very much this. He is stated to be a neglectful father who never cared for his kids and after he divorced their mother, instead of supporting his children financially, he chose to spend it on alcohol as well as video game console. Eliza is only one who still tries to see some good in him and he uses it for her to clean up all his mess. But he really crosses the line when after driving Eliza and Wojtek to school, he drives away while drunk and hits a child with his car and runs away instead of calling for help or ambulance. And he outright manipulates Eliza into taking the blame and when Wojtek doesn't agree to it, he first threatens to turn family's life into living hell before outright trying to choke Wojtek. When Eliza herself sees what a terrible person her father is he turns on her too. Finally, when principle Stanisław Chlebowski calls police and asks him to wait, he runs away again. Thankfully, it's later stated he was indeed arrested.
- Hot for Teacher: Pretty common among some students. It never ends up with a romance; teachers always make it clear they are not getting into any romance with students. PE teacher Tomasz Dudziak is common crush of many female students. In episode 602, a new student Karol Szosa fell in love with Biology teacher Barbara Gruszka and attempted to kiss her against her will which got him expelled and put under psychological care.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Many times. It's about regular school life after all.
- Karina Kłosek is the strictest teacher in the school (Aside from Villain of the Week Marta Kopanowska) but it's clear deep down, she wants what's best for students even if she doesn't have full idea what's good for them. Examples of Karina's goodness are shown in episodes 366 (whole episode actually revolved around that idea actually), 604 (where she defended a girl who was bullied for her past), 623, and 698.
- Ula Gładysz and Milena Mróz start out as sadistic bullies who prey on younger students and take money from them. They are at their worst when they drunk a 13-year old and take embarassing pictures of him and threaten to expose him if he doesn't give them money. Ula also organizes illegal fights with her boyfriend Adrian. However, come episode 95, we learn that they aren't really that bad and when Milena finds out that she dating a psychopath who wants to committ murder, Ula saves her and helps her see the truth. Also, when a new girl Kinga Bazylak who recovers from drug use comes to their school, Ula and Milena both become her supporters and help her stop the habit. That said, when it comes to her ex-boyfriend (aformentioned Adrian) Ula does anything to get revenge on him and all his subsquent girlfriends. Thankfully, they do ultimately get back together and both at this point are far nicer people than they they were in the show's first episode.
- Dagmara Wilk is self-proclaimed "mean girl" who loves playing impressive but mean pranks on students and bullies anyone who somehow wrongs her (even if it's very accidental) but it's clear deep down she is a good person and she is one of those students who saves Teresa Kremer from Tymon Budziński. And she also is very protective of her younger sister.
- Simillar case of Dagmara, is Patryk Głowiński. He often likes to play mean pranks on people and makes fun of them a lot. He is even known as school prankster. But in extreme situations, he does the right thing, and even uses his wit and cunning to help troubled people.
- Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Iwona Małkowska is a very fond of this. She is a spoiled rich girl who loves to insult and humaliate other people whom she sees as "beneath" her but she does have moments of kindess. Sadly, she herself makes it clear that this is nothing more then for her own interest. Once she makes a bet with a friend how powerful she really is at school and to "prove" her point, Iwona "befriend" a shy younger girl and makes her popular. However, as soon as it seems the girl attempts to date Iwona's boyfriend (she was only framed actually), Iwona proceeds to gleefully humaliate her. Another time, Iwona has a crush on a young man and acts as a Cool Big Sis to his younger brother, but that's only to gain the guy's romantic favor (which initially works). All of Iwona's acts of kindness and compassion to other people are nothing more then for her own personal benefit and as soon as things don't work in her favor, her niceness facade drops and she is very nasty to the very people she supposedly attempted to do a Pet the Dog on.
- Monika Barańska is a more straightforward example. In episode 382, she falls in love with Tomek Żurawski and actually acts kind towards him and towards end of the episode, Tomek hopes that she can change and at first, it seems she is willing to do it for him. In subsquent episodes, she still is pretty much same mean bully, just nice to him. Then come episode 475 where Monika is at her very worst where she gets into feud with Olga Zwolińska and ends up throwing a dead dog under her car to frame her. And even after Tomek deliberately refuses to confess to the truth, Monika still dumps him all cause Olga tricked Tomek into confession.
- Kick the Dog: School bullies do lots of mean things but episode 351 has a literal example where two school bullies outright kill the dog (offscreen but still) of their attempted rape victim.
- Karina Kłosek is by no means a bad person (see Jerk with a Heart of Gold), but in episode 328, when Felek the guinea pig goes missing, her total indifference to animal's well-being is pretty cold.
- Identical Twin Mistake: Arleta Witowska and Dagmara Iwańska are identical twins who were adopted seperately when they were babies. When Dagmara comes to school, everybody assumes she is Arleta which confuses Dagmara. When they meet each other, they are shocked at their very simillar appearance. In the end they figure out they are identical twins who were seperated at birth. And in episode 236, they also decide to use their alikeness to temporarily "switch" boyfriends but sadly, Dagmara falls for real with Arleta's boyfriend which very much fractures their love and relationship. In episode 293, other two identical twins show up, brothers Jakub and Kacper Filipiak. They both fall for Daria Lewicka but since Daria initially assumes they are the same person, they decide to "share" her. She does notice though how different her boyfriend acts on their dates interchangaebly.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Plenty of ways bullies use to humaliate their victims. While bullying is never justified and the show makes it very clear, often the things (not always though) bullies use to publicly humaliate their victims, aren't actually false. Like in episode 86, Agata Jarzębska eats tapeworms to lose weight and Iwona Małkowska geefully exposes it which makes Agata cry. While it was pretty mean and nasty, Iwona objectively wasn't lying.
- Lean and Mean: Eugieniusz "Gienek" Zielonka is very thin and skinny, and he is one of the bullies.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The show's way to show the audience character's current thoughts, they look at the screen in the form of giving an interview with their first and last name as well as their grade (or in teacher's case, the subject they teach), and they speak their thoughts while looking at the audience. It happens on basically every Polish paradocumental series.
- Likes Older Women: Karol Szosa in episode 602. He was expelled from his previous school because he wanted to have a romance with a teacher. And makes it clear women in their 30s and 40s are better, and attempts to get romantically involved with Barbara Gruszka despite her making it clear to him she isn't getting into a romance with a student.
- Monster Brother, Cutie Sister: Several examples:
- Aleks Widera and his younger sister Honorata Widera. Aleks is a very mean bully who loves to bully and terrorize his younger sister. Honorata is generally a very pretty Nice Girl. Bonus that he has dark hair whereas Honorata is dirty blonde.
- Helena Filipek and her younger brother Szymon Filipek. Helena is a very beautiful Nice Girl who generally is kind and compassionate to people, and is also very smart and intelligent. Her only somewhat villianous role was in one episode where she tried to take steroids with her two friends (and even then, her friend Zosia Sikora was the mastermind behind whole idea). Szymon Filipek is generally a Jerkass who in his first appearance, tried to break his mom's relationship with her partner, and his behavior in his last appearance bordered on Teens Are Monsters where he savagely beaten his bully and got him hospitalized. While Szymon's two friends (also victims of same bully) felt guilty and that they went too far, Szymon had very little regret and even was willing to violently beat his own friends to prevent them from telling a teacher.
- More than Just a Teacher: Teachers at the school are generally very supportive and they not only teach students, but also do everything in power to help them with their problems. Prime example is Physics teacher Andrzej Lesicki who has very good educator and has great intuition. When students behave the certain way, Lesicki always has a way to tell if students actually are bad, or if there is a out-side school problem that makes them project their anger onto teachers and students. When that's actually the case, Lesicki always helps them get out of their problem. Other teachers are this too to lesser extent. Notable exception is Karina Kłosek who likes to make it clear that her job is to be a teacher first and foremost.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: In episode 202, favorite singer of Edyta Chojnowska quits singing and she is very devasted and forms a fan club with other girls to make him get back to singing. He is constatly refered as "Justin". It is very obvious that it is meant to be Justin Bieber even if his last name is never actually mentioned.
- Parental Abandonment: Mother of Justyna Dudek left her at the orphanage when Justyna was only 6. She shows up in episode 356 and "apologizes" to Justyna, but sadly this is all an act, when in reality, she wants her money. Thankfully, Justyna's boyfriend Adrian Kubacki sees through that and helps Justyna.
- Pink Is Erotic: In episode 337, a new student Gabriela Cisek meets Adam Wróblewski, her teacher from her previous school who sexually harassed her. He is wearing a pink sweater throughout the whole episode.
- Putting the "Pal" in Principal: Stanisław Chlebowski is a very good principal who cares for students well-being and safety. And he rarely even expells students outside of very extreme situations (see Teens Are Monsters for few examples).
- Pyrrhic Victory: In episode 100, new student Karina Sochacka come to school and self-centered Jadwiga "Jadźka" Stefaniak is jealous of her popularity and when Karina turns out to have done a Math exercise better then her, Jadźka accuses her of cheating. Math teacher Teresa Kremer organizes a duel between two girls whoever does a math exercise on the chock board quicker (in front of whole class), will be accepted into a Math olympics. Whole class starts cheering for Karina. Jadźka wins... but instead of class cheering for her like she believed would happen, whole class consoles Karina. Plus, while Jadźka does ultimately get accepted into Olympics, so does Karina.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Generally all the teachers. When there is a problem students tend to hide it from teachers but when teachers do learn of it at the end of the episode, they always choose to help students and make it clear that they are always there for their students.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: One of commonly used tropes when there are siblings.
- Arek Daniluk, a well-known school playboy who likes to flirt and date different girls, tries to teach his very shy younger brother Sebastian Daniluk to be a next playboy after him, once Arek leaves school. He even says how it's in their blood and their father was the same (and hence why he divorced their mother). Sebastian however, doesn't have Arek's confidence and when he actually does get a girlfriend, he chooses to stay faithul to her which angers Arek. In the end, Arek comes to wonder if they are actually related.
- In episode 293, there are identical male twins Jakub "Kuba" and Kacper Filipiak who look exaclty the same (and even dress the same) but are exact opposites. Kuba is calm, shy, and generally a Nice Guy while Kacper is confident, crazy, and full of energy. They both have a crush on the same girl, Daria Lewicka and agree to share her. Because they are new students, Daria doesn't know they are twins. She does notice though how her "boyfriend" acts so differently in each of their dates and when her friend learns there are two identical twins who look the same, they both get suspicious. Daria understadably gets angry when she learns the truth.
- In episode 515, there are identical female twins Zosia and Paulina Krasoń. Zosia is very smart and likes learning while Paulina doesn't care much for school and instead she loves to party and have fun. They decide to use their physical appearance to switch places so that Zosia would help Paulina get better grades, while Paulina would help Zosia win her crush. So Paulina puts on Zosia's glasses and put her hair in ponytail while Zosia dons Paulina's clothes and doesn't wear glasses (Paulina does now). Everyone falls for their deception and Paulina gets a 5 (Polish equivalent of A grade). Of course, their deception does later come out and it doesn't end well.
- Dagmara Wilk is a tough girl who stands up for herself as well as to the bullies and also enjoys to rebel and have fun. When her younger sister Zuza Wilk comes to school, Dagmara wants to teach Zuza to be just like her but Zuza instead prefers to be like Dagmara's friend Kasia Przybysz who has always been the very opposite of Dagmara personality-wise (at put them at odds even plenty of times including this time).
- Second Love: One of the very common tropes. It's about regular school life so first loves, first rejections, second loves etc. are all common tropes. For few examples:
- Adrian Kubacki dates Ula Gładysz and both are school bullies but later Adrian breaks up with Ula and chooses to change his behavior. He instead starts dating Żaneta Grzegorczyk which makes Ula very jealous. When both Adrian and Ula became much nicer people, they got back together since Adrian states that even though, he dated few different girls, deep down, he always loved Ula. This is Ula's last appearance though since afterwards she graduated and Adrian found new love with Justyna Dudek, a girl from an orphanage. And their relationship lasted much longer in the show. It also ultimately ended later when Justyna came back to Poland from United States, and fell in love with a different guy while Adrian started dating Marta Dobrowolska.
- Jagoda Zabłocka is very much in love with Bruno Wasiak in episode 70 albeit her crush is unrequited. Bullies Szczepan Kita and his girlfriend Marzena Gabisz (who used to be Jagoda's close friend before dating Szczepan) use to cruelly bully Jagoda and crush her dreams of dating Bruno. Thankfully, in episode 84 Jagoda seems to have gotten over both Bruno and that awful situation and now is in love with her new friend Staszek Matusiak (who initially has an unrequited crush on Melania Trzeciak) and wins his heart at the end of the episode. They don't stay together but still. In episode 360, Jagoda now dates January Marciniak and they are very much in love and January even attempts to engage with Jagoda who says she very much would love that, but first she wants them to finish college together.
- Cezary Wanat has a simillar situation. In aformentioned episode 360, Cezary Wanat reveals to have been Jagoda's boyfriend at some point but Jagoda wants nothing to do with him, knowing how arrogant and self-centered Cezary is. Cezary does everything in power to break-up Jagoda and January but ultimately that's innefective. In episode 422, Cezary ends with an equally self-centered and malicious Iwona Małkowska (though, if 19+ is taken into consideration, their relationship likely didn't last long).
- Simultaneous Arcs: Every episode has two different arcs of a different student and his or her friends. Those two arcs never directly collide with each other, though there are times where one arc makes occasional subtle indirect references to the other one. Especially in early episodes. Examples of those indirect collisions are:
- In episode 8, Aurelia Drabik is harassed by two bandits each time she goes to school and is afraid of telling anybody. In the other story, two girls put photo and phone number of Jagoda Zabłocka online which leads to some old man coming to school and attempting to kidnap Jagoda. As Aurelia and her mom are leaving school, the man can be seen standing right next to the door and two girls laughing looking. Aurelia and her mom can still be seen entering their car before Jagoda comes on scene.
- Episode 43 is probably the only time, there is an absolute direct collision. There is a competition for the "Best Girl" of gymnesium. In one story, Karolina Stelmaszyk competes and wants to win. In the other story, the first gymnesium class is punished and they aren't allowed to watch and instead will have another Chemistry class. Patryk Głowiński, asks his friend Szymon Jackowski to bring his pet rat which Szymon does. Patryk releases the rat upon the class which causes trouble. Later, after rat goes missing, Szymon and Patryk ask Karolina about the rat. Karolina finds the rat, and uses it to scare her rival Patrycja Szybińska. Afterwards, rat gets found. The conclusion of the episode even has all characters in same spot; with Karolina and her friends playing vollyball, Szymon, and his friend Daria Lewicka watching.
- In episode 172, Maks Nowacki and Kasia Przybysz are both running for a class chairman and there are posters of their campaing hanged all over school. While the other story doesn't directly collide, the posters still can be very clearly seen hanging on the wall in the background.
- In Episode 298 senior students have a science competition and are split into groups. In the first story, Łukasz Nowacki gets into trouble when his younger brother Maks splashes Karina Kłosek with a water, as a result, Łukasz isn't allowed to participate. The other story focuses on the other hand, on one of the groups participating. Bonus also that in the other story, Karina Kłosek disqualifies a group of students under assumption they were cheating in a competition. Afterwards, Karina is doing an interview to the screen where she says how she thinks all students are spoiled, and talks about both those cheating students, and how Nowacki brothers splash teachers with water.
- The biggest one occurs in episode 328 when Mariusz Zawojski brings his younger sister's guinea pig Felek to school to prank girls's from his class, and Felek goes missing. So Mariusz creates a school action to find Felek and pay 100 złotes to whoever finds him. In the other arc, Szymon Regulski dates two girls simultaneously and when they find out, they decide to force a him to do a public apology video. Which Szymon refuses. Two girls find out about missing guinea pig and they find him first and decide to use him to scare Szymon since they know he is afraid of rodents. Afterwards, Felek goes missing again... and gets found by Mariusz.
- Also big one happens in episode 580 where Jacek Jurasik runs an internet channel "School Rebel" where he makes funny videos about school. In the other story, Zosia Szymczyk is secretly dating a boyfriend of her best friend, Wiktoria Szmyt. Wiktoria assumes she is dating principle Stanisław Chlebowski and Jacek overhears that rumor and makes a video on his channel about it. Whole school starts spreading rumors about it until Zosia has to tell Wiktoria the truth (which also ruins their friendship), while Jacek has to delete the video.
- Stacy's Mom: In Episode 32, Kamila Michalska, mother of Sara Michalska is practically a friend to Sara since she had her at age 17 and she participates with Sara's friends in parties and ends up flirting with Sara's crush. Of course, while of all Sara's friends think she is awesome, Sara doesn't actually like her mom's immature behavior.
- Stern Teacher: IT Teacher Karina Kłosek is the strictest teacher at school and isn't well-liked among students. She is able to give 1 grade (Polish equivalent of F) for slightest mistake in class, and she also tends to punish whole class for misbehavior of a single student. That said, she has good intentions and genuily wants students to succeed. And to lesser extent, Math teacher Teresa Kremer counts too and until Kłosek came in the picture, Kremer was the strictrest teacher in the school and students even nicknamed her "Smoczyca" (Polish for "Dragoness").
- Teen Pregnancy: Happens to quite a few girls. They generally decide to go through with it. That includes Justyna Dudek (who miscarries), Bożena Kulik, Asia Ratajczak, Ania Kijewska, Matylda Szmit (who later reappears with her baby daughter), Luiza Ciechowicz, and Alicja Miler.
- Teens Are Monsters: While most bullying doesn't amount to much other then being a mean jerk, there are several instances where actions of a student could be considered outright psychotic;
- Tymon Budziński locks a 13-year-old in the closet and when the boy ends up taken by ambulance, he has no reaction to it. When Terese Kremer calls his father to school, he puts broken pieces of glass into her bag which lands her in hospital. When Tymon gets expelled, he wants to outright murder Teresa Kremer whom he blames on his expulsion.
- Tymon’s friend Jan Zawisza was also implied to be this when together with Tymon, they recorded a video with a simulated rape on Marta Dobrowolska which Marta herself stated was almost like actual rape and almost led her to suicide. The only reason Jan didn’t seems as psychotic as Tymon was at the end of this situation Jan got expelled and unlike Tymon, he never returned afterwards thus we just didn’t see full extent of his sociopathy.
- A new student Patryk Kozub gets mad at Anna Turczyn for taking away his tablet and at the end where other forms of vengeance failed, he resorts to trying to murder her with a broken glass. He gets expelled but returns as a drug dealer who now wants to set the school on fire.
- Dawid Olech is another example. In his debut episode, it's already revealed he has been expelled from two different schools and meets his old victim Adam Wojcieszko and proceeds to brutally bully him which includes trying to drown him in the toilet which leads to Adam losing his consiousness. Headmaster Stanisław Chlebowski actually gives him one last chance which Dawid blows at the very start of episode 268 where he brutalizes a girl. This didn't seem to teach him anything and Dawid decided to immediatly get revenge on the headmaster and first tried to frame him for the crime before bringing baseball bat to school and going on a rampage.
- In episode 351, two students, Marcin Jurczak and Paweł Strojecki first try to rape Kasia Wawrzyniak and later savagely beat the guy who stands up for her. Later, to intimidate her, they resort to killing her dog and threaten to kill her younger sister. This is what backfires on them since Kasia who very much was staying silent up to this point, ultimately chose to tell what happened.
- Kasia Adamiec in episode 388 is a new student who is very agressive and in her previous school, she threatened another girl with scissors. She argues with her neglectful mother and Żaneta Grzegorczyk asks if she is ok but Kasia immediatly gets agressive with her. When Żaneta attempts to warn her ex who has a requited crush on Kasia that Kasia is very agressive, Kasia gets far more agressive and violent with Żaneta until she resorts to outright trying to murder her. And it continues to hunt Żaneta since in episode 411, a month after the incident, Żaneta gets paranoid about Kasia escaping from prison with vengeance and two girls decide to prank Żaneta with that. While Kasia Adamiec is implied to have a Freudian Excuse with her neglectful unloving mother, it's also implied that her mother might actually be so uncaring because of Kasia's problematic and unpredictable behavior.
- Monika Barańska is a bully from the beggining and some of the bullying is outright cruel such as dehumanizing a girl who was born from in-vitro fertilization. However, come episode 475 and where she gets into a feud with Olga Zwolińska (who also isn't a very nice person) she and her boyfriend discover a dead dog and while he feels sad, Monika shows no empathy for dead creature and even decides to throw it under Olga's car to frame her.
- Amanda Rębkowska from episode 544 also turns out to be this. At first, she just seems to be a Clingy Jealous Girl who simply doesn’t want her boyfriend to hang out with other girls, and especially assumes he is cheating on her with Lena Kędzierska (when really, it’s nothing more then learning together). But towards the end of the episode, Amanda puts high medicine into Lena’s juice fully planning on murdering her.
- Damian Olesiak in episode 624 is one of the worst. He dates Maja Matysiak but is very jealous and possessive of her and forbids her to talk to other boys and makes her wear "modest" clothing. When she breaks up with him, he cuts of her hair and outright attempts to choke to death her friend whom he blames on brainwashing Maja. When Tomasz Dudziak takes him to the headmaster, Damian even attempts to be agressive with him, but thankfully, Tomasz is much stronger, being a PE teacher.
- Anna Tkaczyk evolves into this pretty quickly. In episode 627, she is nothing more then a Jerkass who wants to frame a student with ADHD for something he hasn't done because she doesn't like him. To be fair, though most class doesn't like Fabian Kukliński and Anna is just slightly more jerk then rest of the class and compared to things some other students in other episodes have done, she doesn't seem that bad. But in episode 639, she evolves fully into this in being a very abusive daughter to her own mother both physically and mentally. At the end of the episode, she outright attempts to murder her own mother and promises to do the same afterwards to biology teacher Barbara Gruszka (who called her mother to school). Unlike most examples though, it seems she came around. In her next apperance, she does simply return to being a mean jerk where she bullies a girl sick with priorasis. And in episode 800, she takes level in kindness by episode's end.
- The biggest example would be In episode 95 with Mateusz, outside-of-school boyfriend of Milena Mróz. Although, he is more “Young Adults are Monsters” since he is 20 thus technically no longer a teenager. Still, he is introduced as being very addicted to violent video games and plans on murdering his elderly neighbor and tries to drag Milena into it. She at first thinks he is only joking but Milena’s friend Ula Gladysz suspects he might really mean it. Which quickly turns out to be the case and as soon as Milena and Ula want nothing to do with it, he attempts to murder them both with a gun.
- Token Minority: German teacher Dominik Huber and French teacher Patrice are only two non-Polish teachers in the school. They are from the respective countries whose langauge they teach. There are also several international students at the school; there is an international student from America named Kamil Jackson and another American student much later named Will Martin. Bonus that both are part-black. There is also Vietnamese student Hubert Dao.
- Tomboy: Żaneta Grzegorczyk is a tomboy who likes to engage in masculine activities. Dagmara Wilk very much counts too. And they both are Unkempt Beauty.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Speaking of Dagmara Wilk, she is also a tomboy to her close friend Kasia Przybysz. Dagmara is very aggressive and tough while Kasia is far more laid-back and matured and more down-to-earth. When Kasia suspects her boyfriend is cheating on her, she almost breaks into tears while Dagmara encourages her to be more tough and stand up for herself.
- Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Later in the show though, Żaneta comes closer to that though as she does later wear dresses very occassionally, reveals to be a fan of romantic comedies, and in general is actually shown to like some "girly" activities.
- Too Dumb to Live: Another very common trope used. Some actions of students are outright foolish even for young teenagers.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: There are students who were nice people originally, or at least weren't direct bullies, but over time, they became far meaner and resorted to bullying or worse things.
- Oskar Gawron seemed like a Nice Guy for the most part, and even was a very supportive boyfriend of Tosia Cyc, one of the nicest and kindest girls at school. In episode 450, he was nothing but a victim of a nasty bully Adam Frankowski who at the end even tried to rape Tosia. Afterwards, after seemingly no longer together with Tosia, he seems to have become a bully. In episode 668 he outright laughs how his friend Maciek Bogusz bullies a student from Ukraine. Oskar even says "I have nothing against Ukrainians but I don't trust Juri!" Despite the fact that it's clear that Maciek is the instigator while Juri usually tries to mind his own business. It's huge contrast to his aformentioned former girlfriend Tosia Cyc who very much stands up for Juri. In episode 688, he and Alex Widera, outright prey on two 7th graders, steal things from them, and intimidate them at every opportunity.
- Janek Twardosz is another example. In episode 571, he is a very supportive boyfriend to Zuza Szarek and defends her right to not shave her legs after two girls outirght attempt to physically force her to do it, but in his later appearance, he seems to border on Teens Are Monsters. Prominently in episode 720, where his friend Sebastian Stannicki plans to give a rape pill to Emillia Żmuda, and Janek not only has no qualms about it, he outright mocks their third friend who actually DOES have reservations.
- Took a Level in Kindness: While some school bullies were outright psychos and generally got expelled or even arrested (or both) (See Teens Are Monsters), there also were plenty of bullies who actually became far nicer people as show was going.
- Adrian Kubacki is actually one of the very first characters introduced in the very first episode. He is introduced as a bully who likes to prey on younger students but after getting in trouble a lot, with time, he starts reflecting on his own behavior and later in the show, he becomes a Nice Guy.
- Adrian's first girlfriend Ula Gładysz too to a lesser extent. More so, her friend Milena Mróz. Like Adrian, Ula and Milena like to prey on younger students and at their worst, they drug a 13-year old and take embarassing pictures of him and later threaten to expose him if he doesn't give them money. However, come episode 95 where we see their nicer side and when Milena's out-side-of school older boyfriend wants to committ murder, they both freak out and refuse to engage in that (which also leads to him almost murdering them both). In subsquent episodes they show up, they still aren't particularly nice, but at least we know they have standards. Their real nice side comes when a former drug-addict Kinga Bazylak comes to school and Milena becomes her close friend and supporter and officially decides to put an end to being a bully. Ula initially doesn't like the idea but ultimately, she begrudgingly agrees to the idea (and when Kinga accidently buys more drugs, Ula throws them away).
- A example of non-school character would be Renata Zaborowska, mother of Marianna Zaborowska. In episode 123, she is just a pure Jerkass who lives in Germany and doesn't talk to her daughter whom she ignored in her life after moving to Germany. She came to visit Kraków to see her daughter and only kept making negative comments about her appearance as well focused on different things in Kraków like meeting her old friend from school after promising to have some time with Marianna. When Marianna desperately wants to impress her mother and accidenlty ends up hurting herself while trying to put on makeup, Marianna's grandmother is very worried about Marianna while Renata insults her further. In episode 498, Renata seems to reflect on failing as a mother and desperately wants to reconnect with Marianna and organizes a party for her and her friends. While she ends up getting drunk which makes Marianna feel embarassed, this time it was very unitentional, and she later realizes that, and apoligizes to Marianna. At the end she reveals to Marianna she does love her and wants to make up for all time she was a bad mother.
- Darek Teodorczyk likes to hurt and demand money from younger students and when they start anti-bullying campaign, his bullying gets far worse. Later, when those younger students attack him with a knife, everybody gets into trouble. Darek actually apoligizes later and wishes them luck on their campaign. In episode 688, he now plays a more neutral role where he does agree to protect Arek Brylak and Janek Lis from an even worse bully Aleks Widera, albeit he refuses to do it for free. In subsquent episode he appears, Darek accepts his friend Piotr Szelag who comes out as gay (even though, he admittedly is pretty homophobic towards Piotr at first). He is at his most heroic at his very last appearance in episode 788 when his other friend Tomek Piliński gives a rape pill to Natalia Fornal, and Darek comes to Natalia's defense and reports Tomek to headmaster Stanisław Chlebowski.
- Marika Wroniecka is another example. Throughout her most appearances she is a nasty bully who loves to humaliate other people for no reason other then slightly wronging her and everyone is afraid of her. And it seems she has no redeeming qualities. Later, she shows much nicer side, such as teaching a crippled Paweł Jankowski to dance, treating him well, and standing up for him when another girl who Paweł was in love with, posted photo of him dancing and making fun of him for being "disabled". She still is pretty tough, but now, it comes across as more tough love then bullying.
- Trans Tribulations: Episode 192 is about student Kamil Wroński who realizes that "he" (that's sadly what the show refers to her in that episode) identifies a girl and whole episode is about "his" struggles. Kamil's mom comes to accept her at the end but her dad is stated to continuously be a transphobe through and through. She comes back later as a brief cameo and by then she calls herself Kamila Wrońska and and at this point, female pronouns are finally used on her.
- Unkempt Beauty: Żaneta Grzegorczyk who makes her debut in episode 80 as a tomboy who loves to skateboard and mostly spends time with boys. She falls in love with her close male friend Kamil Pawlak and chooses to look more "girly" for him but soon realizes this isn't her. However, regardless of whether she dresses in a dress or pants and sneakers (her typical attire), she is very beatiful either way. Dagmara Wilk is a very simillar case.
- Villain of the Week: While most antagonists are simply bullies (plenty of whom even have Hidden Depths), there are some episodes that have an outright criminal as a villain.
- Plenty of episodes have a character with an abusive parent who is responible for their struggles in the particular episode. See Abusive Parents for more information.
- In Episode 8 both story arcs have them. In one story 12-year old Aurelia Drabik goes to school on-foot, and is constantly harassed by two young men who demand money from her and threaten to hurt both her and her mother, and Aurelia is afraid to go to school or tell anybody. In the other story, two mean girls post Jagoda Zabłocka's photo and phone number online which leads her to get sexually harassed by an older man who resorts to try to kidnap her.
- Episode 27 has two students pretend to sell drugs to look "cool" but all their social media posts and all that, unfortunately attracts attention of actual drug dealers who threaten them with knives if they don't give them money.
- In episode 29, Magda Staszek has a much older boyfriend who simply uses her to pay off his debts. Vice principle Maria Borkowska tries to warn Magda that thanks to this man, another student tried to kill herself but Magda refuses to listen. The older boyfriend takes Magda to his house where he drugs Magda and attempts to sell her off to his friend who attempts to rape Magda. Thankfully, Magda manages to escape and regret she didn’t listen to Maria Borkowska earlier.
- In episode 46, Edyta Chojnowska meets a mysterious woman who claims to be her biological mother and that she lives in United States. Polish teacher Jolanta Żabińska immediately doesn’t take any liking to the woman and tells vice principal Maria Borkowska. Maria Borkowska states that her friend who works at a different school told her how a girl from their school was kidnapped by a simillar woman and held her prisoner for a week before the girl escaped. They immediately figure out it’s likely the same woman. And Edyta was her new intended target. At the end, the crazy woman attempted to kidnap Edyta but thankfully, she was saved by Jolanta Żabińska and her own actual mother, while the woman was arrested by police.
- Episode 95, focuses on Milena Mróz and her outside-of-school boyfriend Mateusz who turns out to be a complete sociopath who wants to murder his elderly neighbor and attempts to kill both Milena and her friend Ula after Milena breaks up with him.
- Tymon Budziński fully becomes this in episode 145. He starts as a supporting antagonist in episode 27 to his friend Jan Zawisza where Jan pretends to be raping a girl while Tymon gleefully records the video, then in episode 80, he becomes a full Villain Protagonist with episode ending with his expulsion. In episode 145, he returns with vengeance where he wants to outright murder math teacher Teresa Kremer whom he blames on his expulsion. He decides to use Maks Nowacki for vengeance and threatens his girlfriend Dagmara Wilk if Maks doesn't cooporate.
- Patryk Kozub is this twice. First he makes his debut in episode 156 where he is a new student who turns out to be a complete psychopath and attempts to murder English teacher Anna Turczyn all because she took away his tablet in class which of course got him expelled. He later comes back again in episode 239 as a drug dealer who decides to burn down whole school as a revenge for his expulsion.
- In Episode 253, two 13-year-olds Jakub Mikucki and Robert Suska accidently find a backback with marijuana that belongs to a drug dealer. Kuba initially decideds to sell marijuana but after Robert is threatened by a drug dealer, they decide to return it to him. Unfortunately, they accidently switched a backback with that of an older school bully Gienek Zielonka. Together with his friend Bruno Wasiak, Gienek uses almost all of the marijuana and they both go crazy. Robert attempts to return what remains to the drug dealer but latter threatens him with a knife and attempts to hurt him. Thankfully, history teacher Zbigniew Małek sees it all and saves Robert at the last minute and calls police. At the end, drug dealer gets arrested, Gienek Zielonka and Bruno Wasiak get put on an in-school suspension, while Robert and Kuba get hailed as school heroes for helping to catch a dangerous drug dealer.
- In Episode 337, Gabriela Cisek is a new student who left her old school because she was harassed by her English teacher Adam Wróblewski. Unfortunately, for her, Adam Wróblewski comes to her school as a substitute teacher when Anna Turczyn is away. He blackmails Gabriela into coming to visit him again, or else he willl expose her naked pictures online that he took of her in the past. Thankfully, Gabriela's new friends stand up for Gabriela and help her expose Adam. It's also revealed he's done it to a lot of other underage girls.
- Episode 381 has Olaf and his cult. They recruit people who feel sad and lonely and lie that they care about them and enlighten them. And this is what they do with Konrad Świtalski who is struggling with his parents divorce. In reality, they are only manipulating him and just want money. When Konrad fails, Olaf tells him that he and other “brothers” plan on moving to England and abandon Konrad. Thankfully, Sylwia Marczyk who is in love with Konrad, helps him.
- Episode 389, Jadźka Stefaniak needs money to go to New York so she chooses to participate in a beauty contest that's run by a bunch of old or middle-aged rich men and one of them attempts to rape her. Jadźka kicks the man in the balls, and later together with Anna Grochot who also participated in the contest, they decide to inform the police.
- In Episode 454, Ela Nowik formed a singing duo with Wacek Mroziński and she is jealous that people like him more then her, so when a man who called himself "Jerry" and claims to be a music producer from England, offers Ela a solo career, she accepts it. Jerry takes Ela to his house and turns out to be creepy and dangerous madman who imprisons her in his house and wants her to sing for him forever. Thankfully, Wacek and police arrive just in time to save Ela and arrest Jerry.
What he was gonna do with Ela ultimately, we are better off not knowing likely. - Internet Troll from episode 476. He is in charge of an online game called "Wieloryb" ("The Whale") where he nicknames himself "The Guardian" and manipulates teenagers into doing various dangerous tasks until the final task which is always committ suicide. And he threatens that he will kill their famillies if they don't follow his tasks. Janek Grzywacz and Kuba Mikucki choose to play Wieloryb and Janek almost jumps off the school roof as a result.
- In Episode 576 Maks Kubiak and his younger brother Wojtek like playing online games where they accidently find out they are chatting with a pedophile and Maks together with his friend Sylwek, decide to set a trap for him. Sadly, Wojtek accidently ruins the plan and to make for it, he decides to set a trap on a pedophile himself. That almost leads to him getting kidnapped but thankfully, Maks and PE teacher Tomasz Dudziak arrive just in time to apprehend the pedophile and call police.
- Episode 625 has a substitute teacher Marta Kopanowska. While she isn't as dangerous (and it's even a stretch to call her "evil") as above examples, she is the meanest teacher in the whole show and even doesn't hesitate to use physical violence against a student. She gets fired (even though, it's stated she has been a teacher for 30 years). Students even say that even Karina Kłosek who has been the strictest teacher up to this point, never ever hit anyone.
- Episode 710 has one of the worst ones in the form of a human trafficker known only by his nickname "Krzywy" ("Crooked"). He attempts to kidnap Karol Kwiatkowski and his younger brother Mateusz and sell them into slavery while lying he would take them to Germany and provide them great jobs and better life.
- Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Sara Michalska and her mom Kamila Michalska. Kamila had Sara only at age 17 and decided to be a friend to her and started participating in her parties and basically became a friend to Sara and her friends. While all of Sara's friends thought she was awesome, Sara thought mom shouldn't act like it and told her she "wants a mom, not another friend".
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Sometimes. Students generally do return in later episodes. But there are some students who made appearance in few episodes (sometimes it could even be only one) never returned in later ones nor was their absence adressed. Reasons for that have to do with real life situation of actors.
- A very good example is first IT teacher Piotr Gądek who made his last appearance in episode 125. Later, he was replaced by Karina Kłosek. It's interesting to note that reason for his departure is never adressed nor is he ever mentioned again which is suprising since in contrast to Karina, Piotr was popular and well-liked among students.
- Marek Kozioł whose only prominent appeance was in episode 48 (see The Gambler trope for more information) where he formed a secret gambling club. He only returned in episodes 70 as a supporting antagonist to Szczepan Kita but he only had four lines and Szczepan Kita and his girlfriend Marzena Gabisz, very much outdo Kozioł in the bullying department (he mostly just stands next to Szczepan and laughs). His more prominent appearance though, is in episode 105 where he agrees to pretend to be Natalia Czapla's boyfriend for money.
- And that aformentioned episode 70 was also very last appearance of Szczepan Kita which makes his Karma Houdini status in the episode all the more frustrating. Suprisingly, his best friend of his first two appearances (episodes 34 and 47) Gienek Zielonka who was also part of Marek Kozioł's gambling club, made plenty of appearances afterwards (but ironically, didn't show up in episode 70 alongside Szczepan and Marek).
