Basic Trope: Someone has a title which is their real name.
- Straight: Bob goes to a doctor whose name is … Doctor.
- Exaggerated:
- The character has multiple jobs, all of which are part of his by-now Overly Long Name.
- His first, middle, AND last name is "Doctor".
- Downplayed:
- His surname is Docter, but it's just a coincidence.
- Bob's name is actually Bob, it's not short for Robert.
- Justified:
- He always wanted to live up to his name.
- He's the one after whom the profession is named.
- There are several names (given names as well as surnames) in real life that reflect occupations, and the name just so happened to be a Prophetic Name.
- Inverted: There's a robber named Cop.
- Subverted:
- Doctor appears in stereotypical doctor attire, but he's actually a cashier.
- Doctor is repeatedly called "Doctor", but it's eventually revealed that his real name is Dr. Alex Tropeson.
- Double Subverted:
- He eventually becomes a doctor and leaves his old job.
- Dr. Alex Tropeson was born "Doctor Tropeson", but chose Alex as his first name due to finding his real first name embarrassing.
- His full name is Dr. Doctor Alex Tropeson, but he likes to pretend that his middle name is his first name.
- Parodied: Every time he changes jobs, he changes his name as well.
- Zig-Zagged: Episode by episode, other characters call the doctor "Doctor" and "Alex".
- Averted: The doctor has a regular name.
- Lampshaded: Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?
- Invoked:
- Doctor's parents always wanted their child to be a doctor.
- After getting his medical degree, the doctor né legally changes his name to Doctor.
- Exploited: People who need medical advice know whom to consult.
- Defied: Doctor was never a doctor and doesn't want to be one, so he legally changes his name to "Alex".
- Discussed: "Yes, my name is a bit on the nose, but it really motivated me to succeed."
- Conversed: "These characters have the least creative names."
- Implied: Doctor wears medical clothing, but his job is never shown.
- Deconstructed: Doctor has the title "Doctor", but people never learn he's Not That Kind of Doctor, so he's pressured to give inexpert medical advice. There are deleterious consequences.
- Reconstructed:
- Doctor is a virtuoso in his area of expertise.
- He learns about medicine and thus becomes qualified to recommend physical remedies to people as well.
- Played for Laughs: People who have just been introduced to Doctor don't believe he is a doctor and it's a Running Gag that they guess the wrong occupation for him.
- Played for Drama: Doctor is pressured to become a doctor just because of his name, but he's inept and hates the job.
