Basic Trope: An actor is in two different works, and one of those works is in the other.
- Straight: Carol and David played characters in both the movie Usually Always (Alice and Bob) and the TV show (really an adaptation of the hit video game series Tales of Troperia) Chronicles of Troperia (Hannah and Graham). A throwaway line in Usually Always states that Chronicles of Troperia canonically exists as a piece of fiction in the movie's universe.
- Exaggerated: Every single actor in Usually Always has one of their previous works mentioned in throwaway lines to exist in the movie's canon.
- Downplayed: Chronicles of Troperia in this universe has different actors in the roles of the characters Carol and David played, and it’s never explicitly stated if Carol and David exist in Usually Always.
- Justified:
- Alice and Bob are twins of Carol and David in the universe of Usually Always.
- Alice and Bob are (by definition Xeroxed) descendants of Carol and Dave in the Science Fiction movie Usually Always.
- Inverted: Someone in real life ends up growing up to look like a fictional character.
- Subverted:
- The Chronicles of Troperia mentioned is a completely separate TV show from the other.
- It's a Shout-Out to the original book series.
- It's a What Could Have Been version where Carol and David never replaced Edna and Frederick.
- Double Subverted:
- A later line reveals that the Chronicles of Troperia Carol and David starred in also exists alongside it.
- Carol and David exist in the universe of the books as well.
- Thus there are references to Edna's and Frederick's roles in lieu of Carol's and David's.
- Parodied: Alice and Bob watch an episode of Chronicles of Troperia, then go on in a segment that's a Whole-Plot Reference to Hannah's and Graham's plot, but they don't notice — or even deny — any similarity to what they just watched.
- Zig-Zagged: It turns out that the Carol and David in it are just actors with the same names, but then we learn that Carol and David exist alongside them as well.
- Averted: There are no mentions of any of Carol and David’s previous works.
- Lampshaded: "Has anybody told you that you look exactly like Carol and David? You know, from Chronicles of Troperia?"
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: A character in Usually Always takes advantage of the resemblances to gain fame on social media.
- Defied: Carol and David ask the director Ilona not to add the reference, as it could end up causing massive confusion for the audience.
- Discussed: "Huh, you ever wonder why Alice and Bob look so strangely familiar to Carol and David?"
- Conversed: "Why did they just reference Chronicles of Troperia there? That'll cause so much confusion on the internet!"
