Deus ex Machina is the common term for a trope in which something not previously established (originally, a god) suddenly appears to resolve the plot. It's an old enough term that it's used here in the wiki. It's also surprisingly punnable, and that's half of what's going on here.
Tropes both named after Deus Ex Machina and conceptually related to the concept:
- Deus Angst Machina: Usually falls under "not conceptually related", but some examples are so egregious and heavy-handed that "only the writer can cause them more suffering now!" is in full action.
- Deus Ax Machina
- Deus ex Machina
- Deus ex Nukina
- Deus ex 'Scuse Me
- Deus Exit Machina
- Deus Sex Machina
- Diabolus ex Machina
- Diabolus ex Nihilo
- Parent ex Machina
Tropes that aren't punning, but are considered kinds of "Deus Ex Machina"
Not conceptually related, but still punning on "Deus Ex Machina":
- Ave Machina: Worship of a machine.
- Deus Angst Machina: A character's backstory has ridiculous amounts of trauma.
- Deus est Machina: An Artificial Intelligence that ascended into becoming a Physical God.
- Deus Ex Homine: A mortal becomes a god.
