Intelligent Systems (Creator)

Intelligent Systems Co., Ltd. 『株式会社インテリジェントシステムズ』 is a Japanese video game company founded by Nintendo programmer Tohru Narihiro in 1986. The company is best known for creating the Fire Emblem franchise, as well help with the development of programming tools and features for Nintendo consoles. Despite not being owned by Nintendo, the studio has exclusively worked with the developer/publisher on every single release with the exception of the DSiWare game Dragon Quest Wars.

The studio primarily spent its early days assisting on Nintendo Entertainment System games such as Metroid 1 alongside Nintendo's internal teams, with duties ranging from programming to porting games from the disk-based Famicom Disk System to be playable on the cartridge-based NES. Intelligent Systems would start getting a reputation for its Strategy RPGs starting with the first entry of the Nintendo Wars series, Famicom Wars in 1988; followed by the first entry in what would become their flagship franchise Fire Emblem with 1990's Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, which became a Sleeper Hit despite poor reviews. In the years since, the company would also go on to create the Paper Mario games, as well as take over development of the WarioWare series.
