Grisaia: Phantom Trigger The Animation (Anime)

Grisaia: Phantom Trigger The Animation is a 2025 anime based on the Grisaia: Phantom Trigger visual novel, itself a part of the Grisaia Series. The show itself is a sequel to Grisaia: Phantom Trigger and Grisaia: Phantom Trigger The Animation Stargazer OVAs, which adopted the first three volumes of the VN.

The story follows after the end of The Eden of Grisaia, where the existence of the anti-terrorist unit CIRS (Central Intelligence and Research Second) became public knowledge after Heath Oslo was taken out in a black op. Tokyo and Washington (both backers of CIRS) were forced to stand up a new unit by moving most of CIRS' anti-terrorist functions to another unit known as SORD (Social Ops, Research and Development). Mihama Academy is used by SORD to train a new team of SORD operators, who are MA students in public. The unit is assigned to handle cases that the JSDF and law enforcement cannot or are unwilling to handle due to sensitivity.

MA welcomes a new student, Taiga Sengoku, who joins up with SORD under MA's Class A.

In addition to those from the visual novel, Grisaia: Phantom Trigger The Animation provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: The team in MA are made up of girls. Justified as SORD is using MA to train them in anti-terrorist operations (and to operate beneath public suspicion).
  • Adults Are Useless: The justification of SORD when they use Class A as a SORD unit. They think that having girls in anti-terror operations will allow them to operate beneath suspicion.
  • Car Fu:
    • A TMPD armored truck rams a barricade set up by The Fatal Answer cultists in "Mother's Cradle", allowing the ERT to get into the campus and deal with the threat.
    • Kuroe pulls this on Aoi with Enishi's car in "Bluest Blue", leading into the fight that leaves Kuroe with her left eye gouged out and Aoi killed.
  • Government Agency of Fiction: SORD, which is a black ops agency activated to take over CIRS' load as the public learned of its existence after Oslo was killed.
  • Wham Episode: "Mother's Cradle" end with a news broadcast of a bombing attack at Kitaoka Medical University. The problem is that Taiga was attending a lecture there.
