A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Slow Roads is a casual driving game all about finding peace in a long, scenic journey.  Endless procedurally-generated roads bring ever-unique scenery while you coast along in your choice of vehicle. Set the weather to suit your mood, throw on some music, and just drive.

NOTE:  Slow Roads: Web Edition is a downloadable, offline build of the web-based game available freely at  slowroads.io. The Web Edition does not include extra features, though does offer high-resolution assets not available on the web.

  • Configure your environment with a choice of two locations, multiple road styles, and an infinite number of seeds
  • Set the mood by choosing between different weathers, seasons, and times of day
  • Choose your ride selecting from a two-seater coupe, a motorcycle, and a coach
  • Just drive - or let the autodrive take over. You can even let it steer while you hit the pedals
  • Controller-compatible, including with wheels such as the G920, but please  note there is no force feedback. Unlike slowroads.io, this Web Edition download is not touch-compatible.

Slow Roads is a solo-developed project in full-time development. There are dozens of features planned for the near term, including new vehicles, improved audio, and many more locations. While some of these features will be exclusive to the Steam version, the web version will continue to receive updates and will remain free and ad-free forever. The Web Edition is offered for a small price, which goes directly toward supporting development and enabling the ad-free hosting of the web game.

And if you'd like to see more about what's coming in future, check out the Steam page for the full details. The release date is yet uncertain (solo dev is hard!) but I'm hoping  to have it wrapped up by the end of Spring 2026. Please add it to your wishlist if you'd like to be notified of release!

Thanks for reading! Here's a secret for you - once you're in the game, enter unlockdriftmas into the Seed input box, and it will unlock the Driftmas location and snow rally vehicle. Be aware that this is not yet officially supported, so you may encounter bugs.

Disclaimer: Slow Roads is under ongoing development and you may encounter bugs or errors. Please contact support@slowroads.io if you face issues  that can't be fixed by reloading the game.

Graphics note: You may need to configure graphics settings for the Slow Roads application in your OS settings or GPU control panel. In particular, if your road textures are blurry, check your anisotropic filtering setting and  increase it if necessary.

Been loving this game. Although I can't spend money on games per my parents' restrictions (lol) Ive been loving the web version and ive been playing it a lot :)

suggestions/requests (may overlap with others' requests, sorry!)

-integration with spotify including lyrics, which could show up just above the speed etc UI or something. if you could adjust things like position and transparency that would be AMAZING. an integration like this would boost the already incredibly calming and relaxing aspect of this game.

-more cars. also a bigger variety of sounds. would like to hear things other than the electric-ish sound that is currently in the game.
car examples: lamborgini huracan, toyota prius, range rover,

-biomes. the current is good but it would be very cool to see more biomes, especially themed around US national parks. im not sure if this is even possible to implement, but this is something that i think would bring slow roads to the next level. here are some ideas:
-coastal redwood/coasts(redwood national park & big sur highway, both in california)
-dusty desert-ish (as seen in monument valley scenic drive, monument valley tribal park)
-moutainous/high altitude (going to the sun road, glacier national park)
-who doesnt love yellowstone? (grand loop road, yellowstone national park)

-more locations. i do love that you can kinda drift in this game and i think it would be cool to have something like a completely flat world, (similar to minecraft superflat world) with elements like ramps and loops where you can just do random tricks, or practice drifts. very relaxing i know. also something like a racetrack would be cool, especially if you could play it in multiplayer, and race people. some items would be cool too, and a variety of racetracks would be cool - almost like mario kart.

-speaking of multiplayer, the ability to make "rooms" would be cool. you could select an option within the game to "invite people" to your world, and maybe it could give you a 4 digit alphabetical code, and someone else could input that code to a "join game" screen and join your world. you could add a kind of compass element pointing towards that person on the UI while driving so that people dont get completely lost.

anyways thats all of the ideas that i thought were kinda cool. i dont know if these are realistic at all, but again they would be really cool if they existed. love this game though, keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback! The plan is definitely to add many more locations, including coasts, forests, mountains etc.; that's the core focus of the project. The Steam version will also be getting more car varieties and combustion engine sounds, and I'll try to figure out a good solution for an in-game music player too.

But I think some of what you're describing - racing, items, ramps - belongs in a different game; I'd prefer to keep the scope for Slow Roads tight and try to do one thing well, rather than branch out too much and risk muddling the game design.  That said, I have tested both rallying and multiplayer in occasional community events - check out driftmas, the annual winter rally that I run every year. I might keep testing ideas for multiplayer and competitive modes in the future, but for now it's not the focus - first I want to get working on these new locations. Thanks again!

Been following this game for awhile, since 2022 (?). Bought it right after the sale ended (saw sale, clicked buy, sale had ended). Heh.

Really enjoying it, though I am awaiting the return of the day cycle. On a side note, it'd be pretty cool if you could include that old build with this edition on Itch.

I did have an idea for a feature or two, if you wanna hear it. The first is more of a fix, and would be the ability to move the camera with the controller, too, and more controller function in general, such as being able to open settings.

The second is due to how the game pairs well with music. I think it'd be pretty cool if there was a radio that would play through music (either on your PC, or if possibly from playlists on YT, though that sounds pretty difficult).

Good luck with your Steam release!

Hey, thanks for the long-term support! The day cycle is coming back for sure - it'll be in the first Steam release and probably added to the web version after that (it'll need a rework of the UI for web). I hadn't considered bundling the old version but I suppose it could be possible, though it'd need to be a separate program... Just in case you aren't aware, it's still up at old.slowroads.io

As for moving the camera with controller, that's already supported - the inputs are unmapped by default (stick drift caused issues of phantom camera movement) but if you go into Settings -> Controls -> Controller and scroll down the mapping list, it's at the bottom. For the Steam version I'm rebuilding the UI to include support for controller navigation, too.

And on music, I definitely want to figure out something, at least an in-game player which loads files from a local folder. I think it might be possible to integrate with Spotify or YT music, and connect to public radio broadcasts, but that's something I still need to explore.

Thanks again!

Randomly stumbled across this and decided to take a shot and purchase, as it looked interesting.

I was surprised at the amount of accessibility and quality of life options available. I didn't realize, from the screenshots, that you can even drive in 1st person.

Pleasantly surprised and pleased.

Thanks for checking it out - and good point, I should update some of these screenshots!

Your game is so cool and beautiful. I mean procedurally generated wonderful scene all the experience while keeping the graphic stay smooth in my close to potato PC is awesome. How did you made the miracle ? ( I would love it be remain mystery as I continue to stay fasinate your game magic.)

For others, I totally recommend playing with with Lofi Girl on. Looking forward to your developement on Steam too.

Cheers,

Cozy enjoyer

Hello, I absolutely love this game. I played it in the web version when it first came out, and I was really hoping it would be released as a local downloadable version. I’ve tried it now and it runs very well for me, even with the graphics on maximum, and my PC isn’t very powerful.

I love playing it with a controller — it’s a hundred times better. I don’t have a steering wheel, but I’m sure it would be even more amazing with one. I could easily spend hours playing it, and I’m definitely going to buy it when it comes out on Steam. This game has completely won me over.

I’d also like to suggest some features that you might consider adding in the final version, or gradually over time. For example, being able to upload your own vehicle models would be incredible. It would also be great if the wheels behaved more realistically — I mean actual drifting physics, although I’m not sure if that’s already implemented, sorry if I’m not explaining it well.

I would love to see roads and highway-style environments with streetlights, open fields, guardrails, and more detailed surroundings. It would also be cool to have road splits or branching paths where you can choose which way to go. Maybe even an option to select specific track types — for example, choosing only 90-degree turns, only open fields, only forest sections, or a mix of them.

I have more ideas that I can’t remember right now, but I’d love to share them in the future. I’d also really enjoy being able to choose between different engine sounds. I remember reading that you didn’t want gasoline engine sounds for a specific reason, which I respect, but I would really appreciate it if that became possible.

Keep up the amazing work. This game is a hidden gem.

Hey, thanks for the kind words, and for sticking around so long! If you were there when it first came out you'll know progress has been pretty slow (sorry), but I'm now working on the game full-time and things are moving more quickly. You'll be glad to know that lots of the features you mention are likely coming to the Steam version in a couple of months - more details are on the steam page, but it includes more controls over road style, gas engines, and more detail in the environments. I've wondered about branching paths for a long time, but it's a bit of a technical challenge because it means generating two sets of road and geometry until the player has committed to a direction. Not impossible, so it might happen one day, but it would need significant changes to the engine so it likely wouldn't happen until a later update. Once the Steam release is done I'll see how the feedback looks and use that to set priorities for new updates. Lots to come - thanks again!

You’re welcome. It’s okay if it’s slow; they say good things are worth the wait. And thanks for taking my message into account. Keep it up.

slow road 1000/1000 is so cool game

This is so cool! It's genuinely technically impressive, excited for future progress!

(+3)

Thanks! I've been working on it for nearly 5 years but only recently turned full-time. Happy to finally be making real progress - yesterday I finished a feature that I had to deprioritise over 3 years ago, and in the end it only took a few hours... more to come!

Love it its just so relaxing :)
