"In 2062, Men from Terra have access to a new technology from a mysterious Black Cube they found 5 years before. With this new power, they decide to explore their solar system, in search for signs of intelligent life. They send you at the discovery of planet Catyph and its moon Tytaah."

A game by Simon Mesnard  https://linktr.ee/simonmesnard

CATYPH: The Kunci Experiment is Another Space Adventure reminiscent of Myst and Rhem (prerendered 3d environments), and you can absolutely play it without knowing anything about the first Black Cube game, ASA: A Space Adventure. With the help of the data that you collect on Tytaah, you must attempt to access the 7 regions of this moon. Your main mission: understand what the Kunci is. The whole game relies on observation, discovery and exploration.

CATYPH is an independant and self-funded game, mainly created by one person in 2 years. It has been envisaged as an experience, an interactive story based on exploration and logical puzzles. The game is made of static pictures, and has a lifetime of 10~30+ hours.

English and French

Catyph: Light Edition (2 years anniversary edition) is also given with this puchase.

Catyph is also available for purchase on Steam. For various reasons I have stopped to give Steam keys.

This game is difficult and requires a pen and a paper to take notes. A walkthrough is available here.

Original VS Light Edition, what differences?

Catyph Original Edition is the normal version of the game and it is ideal for most fans of Myst-like adventure games who want the true Catyph experience. It is more immersive than the Light Edition as it contains video transitions when you move, which can remind of Schizm.

However, depending on the way you play, and the order you explore the different regions of the moon Tytaah, the Original Edition can have a game-blocking bug near the end that cannot be solved, and which will never be fixed: the reason is that in 2016 I lost my hard drive where all my work files were located and I don't have any way to recover them. As a result I cannot modify/update the game and so the Original Edition is "final" even if I want to improve it.

That's why I decided to recreate the game, to fix the issue, so I made the new Light Edition from scratch using part of the visual assets that I could recover from the Original Edition. However it's incomplete and I removed several things, such as the video transitions, which is the reason why I call this edition "Light". Globally the game's content is identical (same story, same places to visit, same cutscenes, same puzzles...) so it's a great experience and might even be better on several aspects. It fixes the game-breaking bug and removes the Blue Matter minigame that many adventure players didn't like much.

There are a few other differences between the 2 editions such as the size of the game (Light Edition is much faster to download) and optimization for old computers, but overall, whatever version you play should be good, except for the game-breaking bug which is totally unpredictable. I hope you find a version that pleases you and that you enjoy exploring the world of Catyph!

Please note that saved games from the Original Edition are not compatible with the Light Edition (and vice-versa).
