Remnants of a dying city.

An expansive texture pack with a dark and grimy theme of urban disrepair. Full-colour, with a sharp and minimal low-fi/pixel style, and reminiscent of early 2000s urban titles like Kingpin, Half-Life or Sin.

Here are a little over 940 textures full of industrial materials -- bricks, carpets, concrete, doors, corrugated metals, grating, roads, signs, broken tiles, pipes, plaster boards and more! All in multiple colours and combinations.

The textures are mostly 256x256, tile seamlessly, and have a number of variations and appropriate trim sheets for level design purposes. Emission/glow maps are also supplied where appropriate.

These are suitable for retro styled games from the early 32-bit era, but can easily be bit-crushed or adapted for other uses. Unlike my previous packs this is not made for the Quake palette and was designed from the start for all purpose use in various games or engines.

  • One-time purchase including future updates.
  • NO generative AI used.

Updates?

Absolutely.

I already have some ideas on how to expand this, so expect updates in the future with new additions. Feel free to make suggestions as long as they fit the theme and aren't too beyond the scope.

Licensing

  • You may use these textures in both free and commercial projects, and modify them to suit your own needs.
  • Attribution is all that I ask (an example is included).
  • You may NOT redistribute, resell, or repackage the textures (modified or unmodified) as game assets but have to incorporate them into your product (game).
  • You may NOT use these textures for generative AI training purposes.

These are spectacular!! >O< I would love to learn how to make textures such great quality as these!!

Feature request for this or future pack: decal/transparent version of MetalCorrugated. Thank you

I have a quick licensing question before I use them in my game.

I’m building a browser game with three.js (WebGL). I plan to ship the textures with the game and load them at runtime as texture files. In a web build, players could technically extract those files via browser developer tools.

Does this still count as “incorporated into my product (the game)” and is it allowed under your license, as long as I do not redistribute them separately as game assets (modified or unmodified)?

If not, what is the acceptable way to include them in the game so it complies with your license?

Hi, yes this sounds fine to me. There'll always be ways to extract textures, so pretty much as long as they're not simply reposted in a public repository I'm happy. :)

Incredible textures. Best I've ever used! Would love to see an expansion on the "Subway" textures If that's ever a plan of yours. Platforms, rails etc. Would pay for a new pack for sure.

Hi, thank you. I might be able to sneak a couple of these into the next update!

In BrickWide*c and BrickWide*d there is extra shadowing that makes it annoying to tile the texture in this way (image). Maybe the texture isn't meant to be used like this, but could you make a version that doesn't have these stronger shadows every X bricks or whatever?

Hi, yes I see what you mean, the vertical black shadows. Looks like I messed up a layer somewhere. I've just uploaded a new version of 1.4 that should fix it, let me know if it's good. It only appeared to be in BrickWide1, the 2 and 3 versions looked normal to me.

Thanks. The textures are lovely.

Thank you!

Do you have a workflow outlined somewhere ? looks really clean

Strideh continues to knock his texturing work out of the park.  I love everything you're doing, and I hope you keep it up!

Thank you! Planning on it, starting with a couple more freebies hopefully soon.

How many ground textures are there? Need some for terrain, is there any desert sand or grass or stone ground, or mud ect..?

No sorry, these are all urban/city textures.

Amazing work (although I purchases all other packs, but not this one ... just yet :) )! Btw, any plans to create another retro texture pack (up to 512x512 textures) inspired by ancient/lost advanced civilization (sci-fi'ish). Something like Vex in Destiny 2, Paul Chadeisson's megastructures, etc.

(+3)

Hi, thank you! I'm not familiar with Destiny at all but something kinda ancient and alien has been knocking around in my brain for a while when thinking about potential Quake maps/texture themes.

Would also buy that pack, bonus if the tech/megastructure textures had clean and weathered variants!

Amazing work on this pack! I'll be purchasing it either way, but I was wondering if you have plans to add normal maps to this pack. I've been working on a retro shooter, and the level designer recently experimented with another collection which had normal maps and we all quite liked the look of pixelated normals. So, I thought I'd at least see if that was something that has been considered for this pack.

Hi, not currently sorry. I wouldn't rule it out way in the future, but these were done from the start as classic/flat diffuse in my style and recreating height maps and normals for all 800 after the fact is sadly a very, very big undertaking.

Ok thanks so much for the reply.

awesome looking pack - did you end up drawing these in a WAD editor?

I was just in time during the 50% off sale, and I am glad I took the offer! Great textures, they ooze early 2000's. Clean, smooth and just overall pleasing to the eye.

Thank you! Clean and reminiscent of early 2000s titles is exactly what I'm going for with my work so I'm very glad to hear it!

The most beautiful textures I've ever seen. They capture a beautiful aesthetic I've chased for years. Not only this but they include such a perfect variety of materials I feel as if I can capture the look of every early 2000s game I've played. Incredible job on the research and execution of this texture pack! I highly recommend! Much love from Brisbane.

Thank you so much! Holy cow that's nice to hear.

Absolutely loving these! The updates have been fantastic too, some of my favorites are the new trusses and cloth, they're surprisingly versatile.

I was wondering if getting some quoin overlay sheets wouldn't be too much trouble?

Thank you! Quoins are a great idea, I'll see what I can do (might be in another update or two).

Hi, any list with the exact contents? Or a video showing them? Cheers!

Hi! I just updated the page with a list of textures as of the 1.1 update, I hope that helps. I might see if I can get together a more extensive video preview down the road.
