Geometry Dash (colloquially referred to as GD) is a rhythm-based sidescrolling platformer game developed and published by RobTop Games. It was released on August 13, 2013 for Android and iOS[1], and on December 22, 2014 for Steam.[2]

The gameplay of Geometry Dash involves dodging obstacles (spikes, saws, walls, and creatures) using a plethora of different gamemodes in a series of levels. Players can create custom levels using the extensive level editor, which is the leading factor in the game's sustained popularity. Unlike most games with a level editor, the developer of the game, RobTop, uses the in-game level editor to create every level in the campaign.

The game was initially heavily inspired by The Impossible Game, having nearly identical gameplay with the addition of a new gamemode, the ship. In the following content updates to the game, many gamemodes were added that were also inspired by various other games, such as the UFO gamemode, likely inspired by the game Flappy Bird.

The game primarily uses music from the Newgrounds audio library along with several contracted music artists, such as Camellia. In some cases, RobTop hosts songs from his own servers, such as "At The Speed of Light" by Dimrain47. [3]Custom levels are only allowed to use non-copyrighted music, unlike Osu!, as a copy of Geometry Dash costs money, making the number of songs available to use significantly more restricted. Though there are many custom levels that use copyrighted music unofficially, with the use of file editing or mods.

Geometry Dash was most mainstream in the first year it was released, though in recent years, the game has significantly risen in popularity due to popular, rising, faces of the community, such as Zoink, Doggie, Colon, SrGuillester, KingSammelot, and Vortrox.

On January 17, 2026, Geometry Dash reached the #8 position on the Steam current players leaderboard, with an all-time peak of 106,251 concurrent players on Steam.[4]

The player can use the keyboard, touch screen, controller, mouse, etc. to control the icon.

Unlocking new icons requires collecting each of the games different currencies, and can be done by completing quests, Eli, and certain levels (daily, weekly, gauntlet) for diamonds, completing map packs and official levels for secret coins (or star rated levels for user coins) and star rated / official levels for stars (with platformer levels rewarding moons instead). Beating a level or progressing any star rated level also grant mana orbs (a feature introduced in update 2.1).

The Geometry Dash user-made levels range in difficulty from auto to demon (at its peak, extreme demon) with thousands of levels to explore. As of October 2025, there are over 1500 rated extreme demons in Geometry Dash. The easiest level in this category is Red World according to the All-Rated Extreme Demon List. All extreme demons are ranked on the All-Rated Extreme Demon List also known as AREDL. The hardest 150 extreme demons that are rated are on the pointercrate demonlist, with the hardest being Thinking Space II. An upcoming top 1 known as Grief is currently in the works of being verified by Doggie. He has 83% on the level. There are also other top 1s currently being verified.

Some main levels (some not arranged):

Stereo Madness being the easiest. Back on Track is next. Dry out, Polargeist, Base after Base, Can’t Let Go, Jumper, Time Machine, Cycles, xStep, ClutterFunk, Theory of Everything, Electroman Adventures, Clubstep, Electrodynamix, Hexagon Force, Blast Processing, Theory of Everything 2, Geometrical Dominator, Deadlocked, Fingerdash, and Dash.
