v0.5.0 - Strabo [Major Content Update]
The Steam early access release is here, along with the Strabo content update! This update includes the new Strabo facility, along with some UI and engine improvements. You can check out the full changelog on the Discord Server, but the highlights are:
- New facility - Strabo
- Astrape Rework
- I was very unhappy with the general balance and mechanics of this facility. I don't think I've fully fixed the issues with it, but it's definitely take several good steps in the right direction
- Collapsible action groups (option-toggled between group by Type, Location or None)
- Some combined actions (primarily travel) can now be completed multiple times in one loop
- You can now view the game state/read logs after the loop ends
- Resource UI Improvements
Since Itch isn't able to gate web versions of games, the browser version will sadly have to remain on the free v0.4.5 for now (and the free v0.4.5 downloads are still available). I will continue to update this free version, but the updates will be delayed from the paid version. I will be trying to provide Steam keys to anyone who buys the game here on Itch, but as this is my first game and I'm not sure how the keys will exactly work, I don't want to make any promises until I'm certain it'll work. Those who do buy it on Steam will get the added features of Cloud Save support and Achievements.
As usual, I expect the next 1-2 weeks will be spent fixing any bugs or issues missed during testing, and perhaps adding some minor extra content. Then I'll take a couple weeks break and be starting on the next update.
I hope you all enjoy finding Strabo!

Hi, I'm just a tad bit confused, sorry. Are you saying the full content of the game will come out on the free web version, eventually, just more slowly? Because you'd be an absolute angel for that. It's totally fair if that isn't the approach you're taking, though, too -- I just want to know what I, presently saving all my dough, can expect lmao
This game is an absolute gem. I'm so excited to play as much of it as I can.
For now, yes. Updates will still come to the free version, just delayed from the paid version. As the game approaches the final release, I may change that policy, but for now it will be free in time.
The new "run" and "add to queue" buttons look so ugly to me! They're visually complex, and very similar to each other. I realize there's a need to make it clear what they do, but they're also extremely basic actions relative to the rest of the game.
Mac only Steam version because of-flipping-course it is. So much for that.
If you're referring to the fact that the Steam version doesn't have a dedicated Mac build, I've stated in a few places that I intend to upload a Mac build to Steam soon. If you're referring to the fact that the Itch Mac build doesn't run on Mac, that's because of Apples security declaring that any software that doesn't pay an annual fee is "damaged" and can't be run. You have to either run it through the Itch launcher, or use a console command to disable the security check.
Hey, so I somehow managed to break the steam version right after buying it. I bought the game on steam, launched it, and bc I tend to do this with games (not really a great reason for it, just something I do) I clicked continue instead of new game. Shockingly the game actually started mid run and very far in, already deep into astrape content. I thought maybe it had somehow ported my progress from the browser version (which wouldn't make much sense), so I reset and figured I'll reset anyway since I wanna play from the beginning after a while. I go to the main menu, now the continue button doesn't work. problem is, the new game button also doesn't work. it flashes the actual game screen for maybe a frame or two and then goes right back to the main menu. No saved games in the load game menu, so I opened it on browser and exported a save to see if I could import it on the steam version to be able to play. That also did not work. sorry for this being so long winded, wanted to give you as much info as possible to help debug/fix this. short video included of me trying to load into the game. Also just found out, I now can't get out of the settings menu on the steam version lol. Tried to see if there was anything there to do a hard reset of the game, then neither button worked to leave the menu
also tried verifying the files on steam, came back saying they're all verified. tried uninstalling and reinstalling, also doesn't fix it
joined the discord, this is the solution.
If you're having this game glitch and are having trouble finding the folder, click windows key + r to bring up the run menu and type in %localappdata%low\ShadyGames to bring up that folder
Apologies for that - the issue appeared for one person during beta testing, but after clearing that folder we were unable to ever reproduce it. Someone on the Discord has now provided a save which they claim will cause the issue if you put it in an otherwise empty save folder, so hopefully I'll be able to fix the issue soon!
Hi - was planning to buy on steam for the cloud save support (and consolidation) - but steam has no Mac available.
Do you plan to bring that to both, or should I stick to here?
Same
I do plan to put the Mac version on Steam, I just find their admin UI very unintuitive, so I didn't want to complicate the initial launch by trying to release both simultaneously. I'll look into putting the Steam Mac version up as soon as the post-update rush dies down!
Thank you for your reply, much appreciated!
I plan to purchase this on Steam. Is there a way to port my save over when I do buy it?
Yes. Export save here in the save dialog, import save there in the load dialog.
Thanks!
Gratz on the Steam release, bought it. I'll leave a review as soon as Steam allows it. Thanks for the update, and good luck!
