It does not matter if the new signs read “Gareth Pines State Park.” The locals will always call it The Hill, and they will always say it with a wary glance out the window. The trail maps and spray-painted blazes have done nothing to allay their superstitious fear of The Hill and its abandoned monastery.
But the tourists still come. Whispered warnings at the gas station will not stop them from venturing out into the woods. The junkyard full of abandoned cars with out-of-state license plates will not stop them from seeking out the ruins on The Hill. And the tattered “Missing Person” flyers will not stop them from going missing themselves
On The Hill is a twisted retelling of B5: Horror on the Hill (TSR, 1983) created for the Liminal Horror Twisted Classics Jam. It includes:
- 11-point Voidcrawl through Gareth Pines State Park.
- Voidcrawl tables with new Fallouts, Clues, and Horrors.
- A Doom Clock counting down to the arrival of the Not Deer.
- Monsters, including the Not Deer, the Toothfrog, and the Choking Tree.
- Resonant Artifacts, including the Stone Tooth Whistle and the Flail of the Penitent.
- 2 player-facing maps to be found during the adventure.
The Horrors of the Americas format of this adventure is available for free. The paid version of the adventure contains the cover, maps, and art in full color.

One of the players: "Wildly cinematic. My heart was actually racing" as it came down to a 1 in 4 chance of avoiding a TPK at the end.
Oh, that’s perfect! I’m glad it played well for you.
Posted a review--yes, you, contemplative buyer, should run this.
Thank you for sharing this! I will admit that the "Voidcrawl" was taken from a pre-deluxe-edition version of Liminal Horror. I recently thought about this (to respond to another comment here on the itch page), and came up with the following changes to tighten up that part of the procedure and bring it in line with the LH Deluxe Edition version of the voidcrawl:
The Voidcrawl Die is always a D6, and the Aboveground Voidcrawl table becomes
the Underground Voidcrawl table becomes
If you run it again, this might be a better way to deploy the encounter tables as they are written in the current version.
Loving this adventure and planning to run it. Was wondering about the Doom clock though. Should it only be advanced on roll of 1 of the voidcrawl die? Seems like the odds are super low. I don’t see anywhere mentioning other ways to advance it? Usually in some other scenarios it’s also advancing every 20 minutes of real time, any recommendations?
Hello!
You are probably right. This was my first attempt at writing a Voidcrawl, using the older version of the Liminal Horror SRD, and if I was making this adventure today, I would probably change this up in the following way (bringing it in line with the Voidcrawl description in the upcoming Liminal Horror: Deluxe Edition):
The Voidcrawl Die is always a D6, and the Aboveground Voidcrawl table becomes
the Underground Voidcrawl table becomes
I hope this helps!

Ah yes, d6 makes a lot of sense! Thanks, i’ll probably run it this way!
I played this game to introduce Liminal Horror to my game group, and it went over sooooo well! The players really embraced the weird things happening to them, and the roll tables for the journey across the various locations. I would definitely play this again with another group.
That’s so great to hear! (Sorry it’s been so long replying, not sure how I missed this!)
Hello, M. Allen Hall!
May I publish a free Chinese translation of On the Hill on itch.io?
I have translated your work On the Hill into Chinese for personal use, and I had a great two-hour game session with it. Recently, Liminal Horror released its official Chinese translation, and I was wondering if perhaps releasing a free Chinese translation of your free work would be a great benefit to the community!
Hello! Yes, that would be really cool. Can you DM me on Discord (find AllenHall on the Liminal Horror server) or email me (there’s a button on my website www.mallenhall.com)? Thanks!
This is great! Would you consider offering pure map downloads?
Added! Let me know if you have any trouble with it.
Thank you for “On The Hill Maps.pdf”! That’s very helpful.

However, a purer map might be useful as well for me to show the players! After all, the first map contains some spoilers, while the last two maps are exploration rewards. If I understand correctly, there should be one of the said maps on a sign at the base of the hill?
I roughly pieced together a map that I want, but it’s a lossy image:
Ah, okay. When I tested the module, I made it so the players had no map until they found one. But if it is helpful to have sort of an untouched park map, I have added another page to the Maps file that is essentially what a character would be able to acquire before going into the park. Hope that helps!
Thank you very much for your help! It’s also helpful for VTT games, haha!
This is, no lie, the best example of a Voidcrawl I've ever seen. Definitely better than the official examples like The Bloom.
