The meme popups are the jumpscares, only half of the roster has actual jumpscare animations implemented, so you're just getting killed by the other half.
As far as i'm aware, Teddi and Hoppi have their actual jumpscares, while Merri has her stun animation since she can't actually jumpscare you. Aside from that Bratti has his animations but no jumpscares, and other characters have no animations at all.
