  • Wow, I can't believe how cool this game is. Great idea tying a home recording on an old camcorder into the theme. I could see it having a lot of replay value as the player attempts to make all the shots look as professional as possible
  • What an overall cute, charming, and wonderful experience, and a unique idea to boot! The smile never left my face the entire time I played this. Just like Crusty Proto, I wish this concept could be explored upon and expanded in a full game, though it is a full game in its own right much like Crusty Proto is and would likely be difficult to explore. And much like Crusty Proto, this was an absolute treat to play. You are very talented. It's abundantly clear that you are a "master of vibes" so to speak, whether it's horror games, the PSX aesthetic, or that chill, fun feeling of hanging out with friends and goofing off with a camcorder. I do hope you end up creating more PSX inspired and comedic games in the future, whether as game jam projects or full releases. You have an incredible level of talent and wonderful ideas! Thanks for joining ShroomJam 2025!

How does your submission fit the jam's theme?
Its 90's, you got camcorder and you are trying to film slasher movie with your friends, because it was big hit at the time.

Really cute game! I think you nailed the home-movie / campy slasher film aesthetic with this one perfectly! The voice acting and environments were also really well done, and the whole concept is super unique, not just for this jam but in general! Amazing work!

I do also want to report that I am having similar issues to other people when it comes to the current web build. When recording any footage, the recording appears completely black instead of showing what the camera is recording, and it causes my browser to quickly eat up memory until it maxes out and the game is no longer playable. I have not played the Windows build, but based on other people’s experience, I think this is purely a web build issue.

To be honest, I can understand if you decide not to fix this, since this might just be a WebGL issue with how the engine handles this video recording and playback and not easily solvable, especially for a game jam. But I thought I’d let you know since I saw there was previous discussion of this issue. Regardless, excellent work with this game!

This was a ball of fun, you took the theme and ran with it. I was a little confused at the start but after a few scenes picked it up and it was satisfying to watch the final recording. Loved the voice acting too!

Hi! I tried to run your game and wanted to share some feedback.

Unfortunately, during the first cutscene with the people on the couch I encountered a serious memory issue. As soon as the cutscene starts, the game quickly uses up RAM and eventually my computer completely freezes. I couldn’t reach the gameplay. It seems likely that this issue can be reproduced just by launching the game and waiting for the first cutscene. Right now the build is basically unplayable and can crash the entire system.

I hope this information is helpful and can assist in fixing the problem. Thank you!

Developer

Not sure if the problem is/was with memory, but there is a new version uploaded that should probably fix your issue.

Really fun, reminds me of what trying to make cutscenes in little big planet was like. I think it's clear you've made a home movie like this. wish there was a way to save the video to mp4 after spending the time I did on it. also, were those mixamo animations? some of them look familiar :)

Developer(+1)

I started this project with this exact idea in mind, but was met with harsh reality, that WebGL builds cannot record video, or audio without ridiculous hacks (plugins that record video, execute scripts in browser to record html element of game view with browser api).  So whole feature was dumbed down. Its also the reason that audio is not positional, since i cannot record it and playback at exact same location.

And yes, all of the animations are from mixamo, some used as-is, some was blended in some way, but in total, there are 60 animations from there.

makes sense, what you achieved is still pretty impressive  and works good!

I tried to run the game, but it seems to have a severe memory leak during the first cutscene with the people on the couch. As soon as the cutscene starts, the game begins to allocate RAM extremely fast (my system monitor shows about 5 GB per second) until my PC runs out of memory and hard crashes. I cannot reach gameplay at all. I tried to record a video of this, but the system crash corrupts the screen capture. If needed I can record the monitor with my phone, but you can likely reproduce the issue just by launching the game and waiting on that first cutscene. Right now the build is effectively unplayable and can crash the whole system.....

Interesting, you're first that reports this issue.

Game indeed uses a few tricks to record gameplay from secondary camera, as you cannot normally record video in unity, especially in web build. But it was balanced to a reasonable bandwidth (~1.5 mb for 1 second of recording). 5gb/sec sounds ridiculous and indeed looks like something goes wrong.

Does issue persists in desktop build, or it is web only?

Guys, post below if you also have this issue, looks like something i should look at, if it is reproducible en masse.

The best game I've tried so far! The amount you got done in a week is amazing, I guess you didn't have time to do the camerawork yourself in the end?

Good 👍

Probably my favorite entry so far! Really good use of the theme! Seeing the full movie at the end is really satisfying.

Hi! Please make sure you upload a downloadable Windows 10/11 version before the jam concludes, otherwise we have to disqualify. Thank you!

Coming right up! Its building right now.

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Windows build successfully uploaded.

I hope it is no big deal, that it was uploaded after deadline? Of course content-wise it is identical to web build.

No problem at all! Confirmed by Potajoe as well. Thank you!
