Welcome to the first annual Write Jam!

This is a friendly jam for writers to submit works of short fiction (the top 10-15 stories will be compiled into a zine). All genres are welcome as long as they contain speculative elements.

Theme

This year's theme is TRAVEL/JOURNEY. Take your readers on an adventure with some unique form of travel. That could mean a brand new form of space travel, extradimensional travel across planets or planes of existence, dream travel through the subconscious of strangers, a race a la "Around the World in Eighty Days", tiny animals travelling in acorn boats, or whatever journey your mind can dream up!

Rules

1. Submitted stories must be 19,000 words or less.
2.  All stories must be available to download for free as either an epub or PDF.
3. Stories created in any part with generative AI are not permitted.
4. Please include content warnings as needed.
5. Be kind and respectful. Harassment towards any of the participants or readers will not be tolerated.
6. When voting, you may only vote for a story once.

FAQ

Can I submit a previously published story?

• No, this jam is meant for new stories written specifically for the event.

Can I start writing my story before submissions open?

• Yes! Feel free to start writing now.

Does my story need to be edited?

• It's recommended that you submit your best possible work. If you can afford to have it reviewed by an editor or have time to send it to beta readers then that gives it a better chance at being well received. But ultimately, stories will be judged based on quality and enjoyment by the readers rather than whether or not it was professionally edited.

Can I submit more than one story?

• Multiple submissions are welcome, but please limit it to 5 per author. If multiple of your works are voted on to be included in the zine, you will be asked to choose which one you would like to be included so that we can maximize the number of authors featured in the zine.

How closely do I need to follow the theme?

• Readers will be voting on 'use of the theme', but how heavily you lean into it is completely up to you.
