Use of the limitation
The core mechanic is a ridiculously overpowered weapon for the player. It is a fast moving, powerful, and ceaseless AOE attack that gets larger when you collect the souls of the dead. Its so ridiculously OP that, even tho the touch of an enemy kills you, its hard to die.

Cookies eaten
Rather unusually for me, I only ate ONE box of soft baked shortbread cookies during development..

Really nice atmosphere, and a great sense of power progression. I love the contrast between the feeling of powerlessness at the beginning and at the end.

Nice little game. Perhaps it could’ve used one more type of enemy, some type of shooter? But overall, it was a nice experience! Good work!

Taking out enemies in swarms with the void once it grows a bit is really satisfying. It does a great job of selling the increasingly overpowered feeling.

A bit of extra polish, like stronger sound effects or some screen shake when hovering the void over enemies, could make it feel even more impactful. I really liked the particle effects for the blue souls you collect and the ones left behind when enemies die, though it could be a little hard to see them when the void was covering everything.

The enemy models look good even without animations, which is totally understandable for a 3-day jam. Nice work overall!

Hahaha, now I know exactly how Blackbeard feels in One Piece! This is such a great supervillain simulator.

Such a cool game!!

There's definitely a threshold where it goes from 'hard' to 'easy' and then very shortly after 'ridiculously OP'- so it fits the limitation really well! Going from having to dodge monsters to essentially being able to sit in the middle of the map and aura farm is great!

Loved the artstyle and presentation! I do wish we could've consumed the whole screen as the cherry on top, but good execution!

Developer

I forgot to change a value that would have enabled this 9w9

I enjoyed consuming the world! Kinda reminds me of Donut Country except more combat instead of of puzzles and physics. This is a fun idea and I think there is plenty of potential to explore the idea further. Great minimalist presentation. The sense of slowly building the void to its overpowered state is left long enough to be slightly concerned by the horde of enemies, and then finding it easy to mow them down, which is a nice feeling. Maybe a gameplay loop or overarching element of challenge or strategy could help the game feel a little less like a linear experience - after all, the game gets easier the more that you play it. Great work!

Enjoyed my time with it :) I was running around in circles forever before I realized that all of the xp was following me too. Once I stopped, my void instantly grew to the size of the screen and I won :) Definitely made me feel overpowered.

When I was working on it, I thought, "someone is gonna run from the souls" ahaha.

The background music and the art style gave that creepy vibe to it. Good game

Cool

I love the minimalst art and design combined with the void concept! Really nice submission for a game jam!

Developer

Thank you Kiril :)

Hypnotic. Sound design and music in tandem with the art is unsettling.

Developer

Thank you :)!

As a fan of voidic content, spreading darkness across the world tickles my fancy- but my billowing black cloaked alter ego needs a bigger challenge

Developer

Totally agree. It needs a little more depth but we had trouble increasing the challenge but maintaining OP-ness. Also the challenge is weird because its starts hard and becomes easier. We need a way to increase difficulty in late game if we were to continue.

Would be more interesting if it were more difficult and had some kind of scoring or something to bring you back

Developer(+1)

Or some scaling like, when you "win" the camera zooms out and there are more enemies type thing
