Welcome to the first Impressions Worldbuilding Jam!

In this jam series, you will create a world, and showcase it in a combination of ways that you choose. At least one of the following formats must be used: video, art, music, text.

This jam will run from  Friday, June 26, 5 PM Central, to Sunday, August 2, 9 pm Central. Voting Will end on Sunday, August 9, at 9 pm  Central. See above for the times in your local time zone.  Please read Scope and Details carefully!

We'd love to have you in our Discord Community where you can share your progress and get feedback! Additionally, this server as of now is filled with amazing composers - likewise, if you are an artist who wants someone to compose music that matches your artwork to create cohesive artistic atmospheres, this is a great place to join.

Scope

In this jam, you will create a set of assets that showcases a world that you've either been building or will start building. You will collaborate with others as if you are an Art Director of a video game.

There will be a theme that will be narrow enough to demonstrate that you've submitted original work.

Details

Your deliverable for this jam is to showcase a world through at least one of the following mediums:

  • Video
  • Playable game/Demo
  • Art
  • Music
  • Text

Your submission may be in any genre you'd like.

The voting period will be one week, unless more time is needed for unforeseen circumstances.

Submit only original content.

Rating Categories

  • Vibe/Atmosphere - How interesting of an atmosphere is created in this world?
  • Storytelling/History - How compelling is the origin story of this world?
  • Cohesion - How well do the elements of the submission fit together?
  • Uniqueness/Originality - Is the world generic, or unique and fresh? Keep in mind, just because someone might use common worldbuilding elements doesn't mean that their world is generic. The way that elements are brought together are what make something new.
  • Execution - how well are things technically presented? Is the storytelling well-written? Are the images compelling? Is the music well made?
  • Incorporation of Theme - This is primarily to enforce original work more than anything. I don't want people submitting vaguely associated projects, but rather creating new work relevant to the theme.

Submission Checklist

  • If your submission includes:
    • Music - provide screenshot of DAW.
    • Art - provide sketches/preliminary/WIP Work
    • 3D Models/Scenes - provide WIP screenshots
    • Text - provide brainstorming paperwork.
    • Video - screenshot of video editing software.

Basically, show us that you did not use AI.

If you are submitting close to the deadline, just worry about uploading your music to the project page. You can add in the evidence of your work later.
