WOWA amazing game!!
the presentation is off the charts in this game, no idea how you did all of this in one week!!

Thanks, my secret sauce is no job or sleep

The max I was able to get to was to that final tower. I tried for like 20-30 mins straight but couldn't do it lol. A shame I couldn't review this before due to that game breaking issue though.

Either way, very cool game once you get a good flow going. I love expansive the environment was. The atmosphere of the game was already pretty great, but the scale of the levels really helped sell it more. On one hand, I think the game does look pretty great with the one texture used everywhere, unfortunately it also meant that a lot of levels felt a little too similar. I got lost pretty damn easily and had to repeat a lot of sections because of this. Might just be a skill issue on my end, but I think having more noticeable landmarks or smaller objects around could've helped  with getting my bearings with each segment of the world.

I'm also not entirely sure how to feel about the knife jump tbh. At it's best, it feels fluid as all hell launching yourself from walls, the floor, angled walls and then catching rings ( very shady knight-esque btw ) and also launching yourself towards those orange pickups. The vault for short platforms was also smooth as hell ( also very shady knight-esque lol ). However, there were also multiple times where I was just not sure how exactly I'm supposed to use the knife jump since it doesn't seem to launch me much. There were a few places ( primarily towards the end of the game, or atleast what I'm assuming is the end ) where it felt like I was using the knife less to launch myself, and more to just kinda keep myself in the air. My issue with this is that even trying to look downwards and push yourself upwards from a wall doesn't do much. Maybe it's just a gigantic skill issue on my part, but I think this could've used some tuning.

Frankly, all of my issues with this game could probably just be skill issues, especially since I couldn't finish that final climb lol. No matter because it doesn't take away that this is still a great game none the less. It's honestly remarkable that you were able to finish this within the time of the jam.

Kudos to you and Noom

Developer(+1)

Glad the issue is fixed!

Welp, yea I wanted to do varied themed areas and actual textures - imagine concrete walls with vines and moss etc. would've definitely looked much better than the default grid texture

The sword definitely needs to be tweaked to be a lil more consistent but I also feel like it's potential is not explained well enough to the players. The 1st place speedrun right now is 1:53 and the movement is crazy - didn't even know you could boost like that lol (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpu1ogod1i0). Another problem is the confusing level design which should definitely be tweaked to be more obvious where to go and where to boost off of and at what angle but didn't have infinite time to work on the map. The difficulty is really all over the place as well so I don't blame you for not making it to the end lol

Thanks for such a detailed comment and thanks for playing!

High degree of slickness in this game. Very cool visual effects. I love the small bits of ledge forgiveness that are very subtle but make movement feel much slicker. I like how limited the ability is, and the level design is very nice. Some of the tall sections where you fall and lose progress were tough, but the worst of that was at the very end as a final challenge, so fair enough! Very nice, would love to see this with some more texture work.

I thought my mouse was busted and felt like I was having an inferior experience compared to others, but now that I’ve learned it’s actually just a bug, I can write my thoughts, disregarding that issue.

I think level design is what’s really important in parkour/speedrun type games and this game truly nails it. It’s really cool how interconnected everything is, there was clearly a lot of thought put into it. The core mechanic is basically like taking the rocket-jump mechanic from other games and swapping the rocket launcher for a katana, and the implementation works great! It feels smooth, and the way it’s used as a traversal method in the levels is very unique.

Sometimes it’s kinda hard to judge where you’ll land, since it often requires turning back from the platform you need to land on, but that’s something you just have to get a feel for with practice, there’s just no way around it.

I’m also a big fan of the vibe and aesthetic.

Overall, it’s a really solid entry with a lot of potential for an even more extended experience.

Thanks for such high praise 🙏 I did a sneaky little move and updated the game with a new build that fixes the mouse input not firing issue in the literal minute while the jam's time was being extended. You can give it another shot if you want :) I definitely feel like the movement can feel floaty a bit, should probably work on tightening a bit but I kinda feel numb to it now since played with jt so much

Dang, this is really impressive. The movement is slick and the mechanics are awesome. My two favorite things are the sword crystals and the hooks! The visuals are beautiful, and I can only imagine what it would look like if it had a cement / overgrown / mossy cement look (think portal 2)!!! The sound design and audio are top notch, and the platforming is tough but fair. My favorite entry so far!

super addictive gameplay, if you don’t have that timer on top I wouldn’t have believed that I’d been playing for 35 minutes.

The world felt like being in a transparent photoshop layer XD.

I’ll have to watch the speed runs, there was one jump that I just couldn’t get past.

A lot of games attempt to manufacture slickness, but KONSTRUCT is SLICK. Very well done. One of my faves.

thanks for playing!

Simply lovely! Awesome game! Good job!

Made it to sub 3 minutes and thinking of how to optimize it to get sub 2:30, which means this game is absolutely doing it for me. Short and sweet, and so Slick

Developer

current WR is 1:53 so keep at it 💪

I am inventing an any percent any time speedrun category and I am the only one allowed to participate. As the world record holder in this category, I feel I have the authority to say your game kicked my ass. After 25 mins I somehow found myself in the starting area and laid down my sword. It was after this I realised the next section was probably accessible from there... anyway, I don't play these sorts of games very often, but I can honestly say I felt myself getting better through your trial of fire with every missed platform. This game is exceptionally well-presented and the difficulty curve well balanced to teach the player what to do. I know when I try again I will be able to get back to where I was in no time. I want to conquer this game. Great game, thank you for this blemish on my gaming career!

We made a speedrun.com page for it and the #1 run is insane. feel free to join in lol

Loads of fun, extremely polished gameplay and design. Difficulty curve was satisfying and not overly easy. Loved it! Was the lack of textures/transparency grid pattern intentional or a result of lack of time? Because the style is cool as hell.

Developer

Let's call it intentional haha. But really I just didn't have time to unwrap the whole thing. Wanted to go for a concrete, brutalist-esq aesthetic but well.. time. Looks decent honestly. Thanks for playing!

Super smooth gameplay, super smooth camera controls, ambient music was foreboding which is a nit control, odd direction for the sword to be held but it works. The visuals were appealing but having some sort of iconic marker or bearing within sections to help the player remember sections/paths so they don't end up accidentally getting lost would be a good feature to add. Otherwise I honestly couldn't find any other issues with the game, amazing job by the team on this one!

Mechanics and visual effects feel so amazing! I really had fun moving around despite its difficulty.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing :)

I was in awe everytime I saw one of your posts on Discord because this game looked promising

And now that I played it myself, it's an understatement to call it "promising", because this game is amazing!

Usually I'm not one for platformers, especially 3D ones, but this felt so good! Especially once I unlocked the katana, you could jump and slice around, which felt very slick!

Both the movement of the camera and the player felt really good and I do hope more people get to play this!

Very well done, you can be proud of yourself :)

had an awesome time. i managed to get to the end of the level in a timely fashion. great game everyone. :]

At no point did anything go wrong at all and it was totally not embarrassing to us to watch you play 😅😅

Got sub 115 so you know I'm slick like that.

This is so good mechanics and level wise, I suck at level design so it greatly impresses me what you have done in 8 days, great work!

Submitted(+2)

Way more tricky than it first appears on a first casual playthrough, I have to admit I got a bit lost in the beginning. But in terms of scope and level design, this is just massive! Well done!

Developer

Thanks :)

Movement feels nice

I kinda suck at it, but it didn't seem unfair

Developer(+1)

glad I can just blame my incompetence on your skill issue!

Submitted(+2)

The character controller is well done and the movement is really smooth. The presentation itself is amazing, is very simple and stylish. The game works as a some sort of movement puzzle? I say this because for some reason I took a long time to figure out I could hang of the rings and I was nearly coming here saying "hey where was the sword".  I see this game and I would like to learn about shaders. Good job!
