This is not a promise that any of these will happen, this is just to get a feel for what people want!
With the "I Love You, ___" game jam done, I wanted to see what other type of events people want to see here on the forum. Keep in mind that most if not all of these would be just for fun and badges, so don't stress too much about what you think you could win when voting.
I tried to think up a variety of challenge types so that everyone on the forum can find something they really like, but of course there are always other possibilities so if you think up something that doesn't fall into any of these then please share them in this thread!
Full Game Jams: Like the "I Love You, ___" jam, you would be making a fully playable game based on the prompt. Could focus on storytelling, gameplay, aesthetics, or all of the above.
Mapping Challenges: You would make an in-game map based on the prompt and then share a screenshot of it. Prompts could be a general theme such as 'magical forest' or 'busy pub', or you could be given an empty space that you need to fill in like a square interior to turn into a hero's home or a simple town that you need make look nicer/worse.
Writing/Cutscene Challenges: You would get a prompt like "write an npc's journal entry that hints to the player that they used to be a cow", or get the start/end of a cutscene and have to finish it with your own style. These would focus on both creativity and grammar, so proofreading would be important.
Eventing Challenges: You would make a working event based on challenges like "make a fishing minigame/side quest" or "make an overly complicated lock for a treasure chest", and share a video/screenshot of it in action. These would focus on what can be done in the engine, so little to no code could be used.
Resource Creation Challenges: This would be all about making sprites, tiles, bgm, whatever you want to fit the prompt. Could focus on general themes like seasons or colors, or specific character types like knights or alchemists.
"Fix It" Challenges: There would either be a 'broken' MZ project or an example screenshot that you would recreate yourself to make it work properly. These challenges would focus on bughunting and problem solving, not on creativity.
Hopefully that's enough to give y'all ideas of what the different events could be. If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to share. And as always, happy game making!
