  • Really interesting seeing the public be so okay with the placeholder art in Slay the Spire 2. I guess they trust in the potential of the final product, but it would be cool if the general consumer had a better understanding of dev pipelines.

    Slay the Spire 1 also showed placeholder art during its early access period.
    So fans probably just expected to see placeholder art in the first place.

    Can't believe I hadn't heard of Galneryus before this year, yet I've heard of the garbage fake band Baby Metal a thousand times. @TheAM-Dol is Japanese, that means he knows these people personally! Why isn't he as obsessed with these virtuoso maniacs as much as I am?!
    Are there bots that just review games on Steam apropos of nothing? I just got a review on my old game (in Russian) describing it as an "action rogue-like". What??? I flagged it as "off-topic" cuz I don't need misleading reviews like that FROM BOTS.
    Working towards putting out an update and see a random spike of downloads. Keep expecting to see a bunch of 0 star reviews from some angry fanbois of [anything] but I haven't made a hater video in forever. Who did this lol. What is your motive?
    Am I ip banned? I can only get the forums to load when I log on using data.

    Now I’m on Bing using private mode and data. I tried resetting my info for the site on Chrome but that broke the site fully. I guess I’ll try resetting the whole cache later

    Figured it was that one. I actually get this error from time to time too on my work computer.:aswt: Haven't found the cause or what fixes it/breaks it again. Anyway, I'll bring up it in the staff forums.

    Had that happen for a full week before it went away. Best possible explanation for it was some DNS issue or the discovery 4 years ago that there's no objective reality.
    I guess I'm gonna figure out some jank way to replace my AI placeholders. Can't afford to hire an artist, so I have to make some ... crap. It's clear this is just a complete dealbreaker for everyone.

    At least the "crap" won't be contributing to art theft and copyright infringement, unlike AI. It can't really be THAT bad, can it? Like my stuff has been compared to what a child would draw before. :p

    It's not uncommon in dev to just use whatever during early dev stages. So dev's might use things they don't have proper license on. It's a waste of time to come up with good-looking placeholders since it's going to be replaced later. It just makes sense to use AI to bridge the gap until then. But I guess it was a bad idea to do this with a public demo.
    Don't you love when you're trying to get an update out and you find a mystery showstopper bug :*)

    More UX stuff! Here I have a weapon that can hit a random number of times, but it isn't purely random. Does this description make sense?

    Ya, I think "more likely" is better 'n just "likely"! Also, how 'bout just "hit counts" instead of "counts of hits"?

    Without additional context about the game, I don't know what that means. The player would have to know what range is possible in your rolls. And is the roll result visible and transparent to the player? And more likely infers that there is a standard you are comparing it to. Why not just + % chance to hit?
    woootbm
    woootbm
    It says “Hits: 2-4” above. Standard chance to hit means the bottom roll deals zero damage, which is too punishing. This is the only weapon in the game with this mechanic, so it’s its unique gimmick.

    More UI/UX stuff. Not sure why this "+X damage per crit" feels wrong. Like I guess I don't like the bullet point next to a plus? Or maybe it needs to say "Bonus X damage per crit"?

    For those who haven't played my game, many skills come from weapons. My specific question to people is: what is your expectation of the left skill vs the right one when seeing this tooltip (in relation to conveyance, not game balance)? General layout feedback is also good.

    I think the information is fine, I think the menu background is too busy with that pattern. It distracts from the text - maybe try a higher opacity on the windows.
    woootbm

    @ATT_Turan Don't worry, it's actually just a dull transparent green. The pattern is the tile of my test room. I'll find a less busy tile, though.

    My main thing is the "not installed" part. My hope is players get that they need something to unlock the second skill. What the item is or where to get it is something they need to figure out.

    You might consider doing all of that in the darker grey text to emphasize how none of it is active.
    In the process of converting (almost) all of my player's damage formulae into variables. Smart or dumb?
    RCXGaming
    RCXGaming
    @woootbm It updates in real time. I just did a test with Damage Core in my own game and the Galv thing keeps up. The exact test I used:

    <Damage Formula>
    if ([71].includes(b.enemyId())) {
    value = (100) * 2;
    } else {
    value = (100) * 1;
    }
    </Damage Formula>

    Hovering over the 71st enemy in the database shows 200 as the predicted damage, 100 for everyone else.

    @RCXGaming Hm, I'll have to play around with it at some point. Just looking at the screenshot, it seems like I would need to change a lot to get it to look right. This is also pretty QoL at this point because all the other things I have done in the game make this info pretty easy to understand, although it can always be cleaner.

    woootbm
    So I stubbed in all of the formulae with best guess balancing. Good news: changing ~200 variables on a level up doesn't seem to cause an fps stutter lol. So, unless I miraculously balanced the entire game just now, future balance changes will be much faster!
    Dangit someone left a low rating on itch and said they'd explain later in a comment but they never did. Normally I wouldn't care but they said the store page gave them the wrong impression of what the game is.

    @kyonides Very likely. But the game is free right now. I also think they might just say “I didn’t know it’s rpg maker”

Pepper hopped up on my bed to snuggle earlier... and now there's grains of kitty litter all over the foot of my bed. Now she's in her own bed fast asleep. Sometimes, I like to wonder what Pepper dreams about... does she dream of chasing her toys? Pouncing on the lizards she sees on her patio? Purring in a sunny window? Receiving pets and scritchies?
Oh no... she's back in my bed.

Haven't updated my status in awhile. I'm taking a short break from working on my game because I have a sliiiight burnout,,
I’m pretty busy at the moment, so here’s just a quick update: my artist is currently working on a new character. Sadie is a young blacksmith who supplies us with weapons and armor.
