Sugar & Spice Cafe is a cute, fun, and cozy tea shop game!

... or is it?

Manage a little tea shop and make drinks  for a variety of customers before the cafe close at 4PM.
While some customers are rays of sunshine, others are... not.
If you only had a way to deal with them...

A note from the makers:

Hi there,

This game was made by two of us in 48 hours for our first game jam!
 The theme was "unexpected twist."

We've added a few updates since the game jam like more tea options, garnishes, animations, and general game tuning.
Let us know in the comments what you think. We'd love to hear from you!

Thanks for playing our game and supporting indie teams.

Love the concept, super cute. Would love a full game like this but where we just make teas and coffees with the orders getting more complex, something relaxing, would happily pay for something like that!

very beautiful art, a nice game to decompress with at the end of a day! i appreciate the special sauce, because if i ran a tea shop irl i would also poison rude customers. would love to see more complex recipes in the future!really pleasant game

Cute little game and visually very appealing. It is kinda relaxing. I would love more gameplay though, like more complicated recipes (like the London Fog or how is it called) and perhaps make the order matter, or let you figure it certain ingredients yourselves, or make some ingredients more hidden or or or ... loads of ideas, but none of these should take away the cozy atmosphere of the game, so a timer would be a bad idea I think.

A little gameplay, a little critique ;)

(+2)

Hi Fort Kenmei!! Thank you so much for playing our game, sharing it on your channel, and giving us a critique ;) This was a phenomenal video and we are grateful for the exposure. We sat down and watched this together and laughed multiple times at ourselves. We also loved that you learned what a london fog is! It's one of my go-to's in any coffee shop. We are working on a project that may have similarities to this one and we will keep your feedback in mind as we move forward. Thank you!! <3

The bug is fixed, yeah. Thanks for improve our gameplay.

Yayy!! Glad to hear it! Thanks for letting us know!

Was the poison meant to take away stars when used?

(+1)

Yess the "special sauce" doesn't taste great so customers will leave a bad review and you'll lose some ⭐. BUT you'll have gotten some revenge so maybe it's worth it for some. 😅

Literally just opened itch.io 5 minutes ago and found this gem! Reminds me of coffee talk with how cozy it is (with the twist)! I think one QoL update will be for us to choose not to use the special sauce without having to click on it all the time - by allowing us to simply ignore it? Some of the customers just feel like how I speak on a bad day and I don't have the heart to poison them haha

(+1)

Aw soo happy you found us!

Yes I could totally see that being useful and I like the idea of being able to just ignore it without being prompted. We'll look into that. We're self-taught and so far we've learned that the simplest things are often shockingly complicated but we will definitely see what that would take!

And true, some of the comments are definitely not as bad as others so we completely get not wanting to "sauce" them every time. 😅

Thanks for taking the time to play our game!

Or even better, integrate the poison on the shelves, like picking leaves from a revenge plant or something, without being prompted. That way you can always choose whether to add some spice to the tea ;-)

sorry, the game restarting after the first round has a bug
idk if its just me but when i click on a mug to start a fresh order, it doesn't appear. sfx happens but no visual mug. clicked the right ingredients and couldn't serve, so idt this is a visual problem, but im no programmer 😅

Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by and playing our game!

You're totally right, that wasn't just you, it WAS happening! But thanks to you and a couple other players pointing that out we were able to get an update out and it should be working smoothly now. Let us know if it's fixed or if it's still being buggy. 🐞

Thanks again for giving our game a try! 🥰

A cozy game with promising future. I hope you two guys have enough time to complete next work.

If you are interested in translating your works into Korean language, I'll help.

Aw thanks so much for the comment and words of encouragement! We appreciate that. 🥹

Nice game, cool atmosphere . The graphis/music are nice too..

I've got trouble to put in fullscreen ...

What is the hot sauce thing ? it ruin the game, of course we don't had it, even when the (too many...) customers are impolite.

Bring more it will be even more enjoyable :)

Thanks for the sharing

ps: I'm a composer if you need it ...

Hey! Thanks so much!

In order to use the full screen button you have to be clicked into the game window first and then you'll be able to press the full-screen button. We totally get that it feels like you're having to press it twice to work. It confused us too until we realized the first click was just entering into the game window and the second was actually interacting with the button.

To answer your question about the "special sauce," we created this game in about 48 hours for a game jam and the theme was "unexpected twist" so we had this concept of a cute cozy game but the twist is that you have to poison your mean customers to move forward. Since then we've made the "special sauce" optional for players who have requested that, but that's where the concept originally came from and we wanted to keep the sauce in the game to stay true to the initial concept and game jam. 😁

Thanks for taking the time to try out our game and leaving some feedback! We love hearing from our players. 🤩

It´s a cute game, I liked art and the music is cool while you are playing it. But, I was playing the game and suddently the mug wasn't appearing to me.

Hi hi! Thank you so much we appreciate your feedback!! Because you and a couple other players called attention to this we worked on a fix and got an update out this morning. Let us know if it's working for you now. We appreciate you letting us know!

Thanks for the play and the support. 💖

omg love the update so cute!!!!

Thank you for playing it!! ❤️❤️❤️

Quick Question: Whats a London Fog?

(+1)

Earl grey + milk!

Thank you!

Very good question, and shoutout to Charlie for coming to the tea rescue! We were thinking it might be fun to add a little puzzle element and put in a tea that wasn't the most obvious - London Fog - but we also don't want people to get stuck there either so we added in a recipe book! We learned there's also often vanilla in London Fogs so we added that ingredient in as well.

So thank you for the feedback because without you the recipe book might not exist! Thank you both for playing! 😊

(+2)

We have recently updated the game and added a recipe book to help people with this in the future! Thank you for playing our game!

more ingredients please

(+1)

There may be a big update coming soon... 😉

Hi Sena! New ingredients have been added ✨just for you✨! 😉

I am in loveee with the 'special ingredient'

And we are in loveee with YOU! 😉😽

I have no idea what to do :(

(+1)

Hi! Here's some quick steps to get you started: 1) Listen to customer and find out their order. 2) Click the mug to grab a mug. 3) Add hot water by clicking the hot water dispenser. 4) Next, click the tea leaves associated with the drink choice to add the tea leaves. 5) If it is a latte, add milk at the end. *See post-it note for steps* 6) If it is a "rude" customer, add the "special ingredient" that slides out. 7.) Once the order is finished, click the delivery mat to deliver it. 8) Repeat until the end of day! Thank you for playing our game! We hope to put out a newer, more improved version soon!

Really cozy game!! loved it!

And the London fog looks so pretty ☆ Its sad that the cafe closes at 4pm:(

Thank you so much!!

If you think the London Fog is pretty, check out the new teas, they're even prettier (in our opinion ) 😉!

We often find that we wish there were more hours in the day irl 😮‍💨 but at least here you can now press the replay button as many times as you'd like. TEA FOREVER!😌🫖🍵

i liked so much, i wish you make more games like this or develop this one to make it longer or something. Good Job

Aw @iamyellowcow you made our day! We did just create an update to this game to add some more ingredients and made the days last a little longer, but we are also working on some new games as well. Comments like yours keep us inspired and motivated! 🥰

This game is so cozy and fun!!

Thank you for playing it c:

(+1)

I enjoyed the vibes of this game! It kinda sucks that even when I serve a lot of customers(and of course give the rude ones the special sauce) it always closes down! Also this is the first time I've ever heard of a drink called a London Fog so that confused me so much trying to figure out what they were talking about. All in all still a nice, fun and quick little game.

A London fog is a cafe drink that consists of earl gray tea, steamed milk, and vanilla coffee syrup! It's sorta like a tea late

Yes! It's one of my favorites c

HALF THE SCREEN IS CROPPED OUT

frr

Hi there! Thank you for playing our game! Until we get that patched, you can zoom out the browser by pressing both "Ctrl" + "-" (or "Command" + "_" on macs) to fit it on your screen a bit better.

Very cute, and the art is lovely! The "twist" is fun, but honestly the art and vibes would be perfect for a fully genuine cozy tea shop game.

Aw thank you, @notroxas! We appreciate your kind words and that you gave our game a try!

(+2)

I think the tea shop got shut down because I was being forced to give customers poison

The cafe doesn't close down because you give the customers the potion its because the cafe is supposed to close down at 4pm

😂 Possibly... but also @୨ৎ 𝐼𝑣𝑦 ୨ৎ's right it's also going to close at 4pm no matter what, but now we've made the "special sauce" optional and you could get a few different endings. (:

I like the game but the window to play it is so large that I can't see it all on my laptop D': and I can't even scroll if it's completely in frame. It would be amazing if you guys could add an option to fullscreen the game in a window!!!!

(+1)

HI! Thank you so much for taking the time to play our game! We formatted this game for desktop computers and we're aware it doesn't fit as well on laptops. You can zoom out the browser by pressing both "Ctrl" + "-" (or "Command" + "_" on macs) to fit it on your screen a bit better. We hope that helps as a temporary solution but we hope to learn how to add a full screen button soon. (:

thanks!! ill try it out

I honestly do this on accident all the time but it actually became useful for me for once

Haha so relatable. 💯
