The Far Horizons Guide to Mysterious Locations is a collection of supernatural spots, strange places, and other oddities that you can slot into just about any tabletop RPG, or enjoy just for the sake of the intriguing writeups and beautiful artwork. You'll find eleven different supernaturally touched locales filled with history, plot hooks, magic, and more, as well as 6 liminal spaces you can fit in between other adventures or include just to put a touch of mystery into your game. It's completely system agnostic so you can use it with almost any tabletop game.

What sorts of places are you going to find inside?

  • The Banquet Hall presents a gathering place that’s constantly booked each night, filled with the dead and those willing to brush up against the denizens of the afterlife.
  • The Book Bar is a cozy place to eat and drink, and yet at the same time seems to make deals with its patrons that they aren’t even aware they wanted. The costs, though, are just as hard to catch until they’ve already gone on their way.
  • The Containment Store seems normal from the outside, but inside holds cursed objects, locations, and creatures that are (supposedly) safely bound to keep them from inflicting their dark magic upon the rest of the world.
  • The Convoking Tower holds the history of an entire dead world inside it, waiting to be lit but missing the lens that will make it all possible. What’s been lost to time, and what will it do to the world when it returns again?
  • D.R.i.N.C. provides smoothies and wellness supplements, but something far darker than research into human health is going on within their research and development facilities. In a world where the supernatural is possible, it can’t be long until it’s harnessed for war.
  • In the Exchange District, business is normal enough in the main building itself, but those settling in for a bit of tea during their break find their words hold promise, and the market runs on more than a trade of coin.
  • The Homestead Community Center was once run by a cult that wanted to herald in the end of the universe itself by embracing the Void. Dark magic and strange creatures still linger, but so too do hoarded treasures and magical power.
  • Matane Mart allows shoppers to slough off the emotions from their mourning by returning to their daily chores, but in doing so the dead might decide to take up some of that emptied space for themselves.
  • The Oneiroscape is a shared dream that those outside of the comfort of their own home might find their anxious minds wandering into. Strange things happen when dreaming minds blend, but there are also wonders one’s own thoughts can’t come up with alone.
  • The River carries not just water but haunted soil, dead remains, and sediment from far-away places. As it laps up against the towns or cities it flows through, fragments of those composite spirits get left behind.
  • Almost any building has an Unlabeled Back Room that nobody even notices. Once in a while, though, someone does give it a second look, and decides to check it out. What they find is never the same, and yet it’s all connected together.
