Handling Performance - TCPD Update #13!

It's that time of year: fresh TCPD build available now!

Hey,  it hasn't been a full year at least! Here's a new update for Tristan Cole's Pro Driver which includes a bunch of level design updates, updated vehicle physics, new races, updated UI, and most importantly heavily improved performance - no more huge loading hitch!

As always, if you have ANY feedback, please leave a comment or reach out on Twitter!

    • Many more props and vehicles scattered around the world.
    • Added more killzones around map boundaries & dead zones.
  • General changes:
    • Huge performance improvements!
      • Fixed the long annoying startup hitch caused by physics actors piling up after map load.
      • Reworked hittable system so only objects close to the player are active.
      • Create taxi mode manager and spawn passengers only during game mode.
      • Converted some background buildings to HISMs+ various other small improvements.

      • All UI screens are now displayed through the `Tony` headunit.
      • [WIP] UI screens now work with controllers.
      • Full settings menu with audio, graphics, camera, and other gameplay related toggles.
    • Main menu level and UI updated.
    • Camera distance/angle updated and FOV slightly increased.

This is not a full list of changes, it's been a while so there's too many to list even if I had kept track! I encourage you to explore the city to see what's changed, have fun doing some races, and try to break things!

🔳 What's Next?!

Everything! Well, that's what it feels like at least. There's still so much more I want to do with TCPD! One thing I need to start doing soon is working with real artists to start improving the look of the game - models, animations, UI and logos, etc. The core look of the game probably won't change much, but polished art is going to be a huge level up! Oh, I need to start rounding out the soundtrack too...

Here's what I have planned for the immediate future:

  • Race mode updates:
    • Four [day] races per garage.
    • Reverse [night] races for each day race.
    • Updated race UIs:
      • Garage race list UI with reversible detail card per race.
      • Add quit + restart buttons to race pause menu.
      • Updated race HUD with clearer info.
    • Updated scoring system & rankings for checkpoint races.
    • More routes for street races & investigate opponent AI improvements.
  • Taxi mode updates:
    • Updated passenger timings & calculations.
    • Improve passenger actor performance during game mode.
    • Rework ratings system.
    • Improve navigation system and UI for destinations.
  • Gameplay & vehicle updates:
    • Fix vehicle being bouncy & sliding so much when landing off wheels.
    • Improved grinding attachment visuals + detachment physics.
    • Fix donut trick registration and revisit controls for ground tricks.
  • Other changes:
    • Improve/fix controller UI navigation for all menus.
    • Add garage objective lists.
    • Add more unlockables and update current economy + mission unlocks.
    • More improvements and polish to the city of LATC.

Plus whatever else pops up on my todo lists! Have any suggestions or ideas of what you'd like to see in TCPD? Let me know!

Send me any constructive feedback, positive or negative. I need your help to make "TCPD" the best possible game it can be, so please post or message me with any comments or suggestions you may have!
