In development (or maybe on hold but in wishlist)

A good place where you can find games that are worth keeping an eye on.

8 Bit Civilizations (Protovision)

Fabian Hertel presented an impressive fan remake of the Commodore 64 classic, which is currently available for everyone to try out as a playable free demo.

We all love Civilization. But it had a considerable flaw.
It is a game of the 16-Bit era and made it to a Commodore (Amiga), but not to the C64. We cannot tolerate this.

Features:

  • The game is playable from the beginning of mankind to the end of time!
  • Classical units are included and work properly, advances can be discovered, and wars can be fought.
  • You can choose one out of 15 tribes or customize your own tribe.
  • There are up to 3 computer controlled tribes
  • Barbarians can be activated
  • Five levels of difficulty
  • Custom game maps can be generated based on selections on land size, shape, and climate
  • Isometric view
  • Games can be saved or loaded
  • Compatible with all common drives
  • SuperCPU compatible
  • Keyboard, joystick and mouse control (port 2) supported

Missing Features:

  • Diplomacy features are very limited (e.g. no audiences)
  • No launching of space ships (they can be built, also by enemies, but they cannot launch)
  • A couple of informational screens (e.g. game statistics or infos for wonders) and the final evaluation screen are not ready
  • No ingame sound

8bit-Dungeon (Anthony Beaucamp aka 8bitDude)

An RPG style Tech Demo introduced in release 0.4.0 which is a Diablo inspired crawler. The code shows how to use a scrollable charmap together with sprites.

This project is a technical demonstration of a dungeon crawler.
– The player can interact with objects in the scene, and pick-up items.
– The map is generated with CharPad, using both a Charset and Tileset (to produce large playfield).

You can find a video showing early gameplay and a short introduction to how it was made.

8bit-Goblin (Anthony Beaucamp aka 8bitDude)

A point and click style Tech Demo of a very popular and funny game series from another platforms, introduced in release 0.3.3. The code shows how to implement scene management, including: interactable objects, pickable items, scene animation

8bit-Strike (Anthony Beaucamp aka 8bitDude)

A counter-strike inspired 2D online multiplayer game for up-to 8 players, with a competitive ranking system.

Enjoy the original gameplay and scenarios, including bomb planting and hostage rescue.

Age of Heroes 2 (Icon64)

The sequel to the Rastan Saga-inspired game, which will be a 4- or 8-way scrolling game with an open map and some BIG boss battles.

You can also find an early video of the game title and some of the gameplays:

Aliens NeoPlasma (Eric Majikeyric)

An awesome Alien3 inspired platformer action game what was abandoned for a long time ago. According to plans, running the Commodore 64 version will require hardware expansion (Ultimate64, Turbo Chameleon 64, or SuperCPU) as it makes extensive use of the hires bitmap mode.

The latest gameplay video you can find in public yet:

Another World (Hokuto Force)

The remake of the intro to the Amiga game Another World was released many years ago thanks to Hokuto Force, so it’s a great starting point for perhaps creating a playable demo version in the future.

FunFair Inc. (Arlasoft)

The abandoned clone of the popular strategy game named Theme Park but with a playable demo.

All the fun of the fair (well, some of it…)

Galencia Khaos Sphere (Protovision)

The sequel of the great shoot’em up game Galencia which was abandoned from release years ago. Fortunately you can try some of the early preview demos.

I’m sure you can find this in the playable demo:
