well this was a really disturbing & extremely well made surprise!

(SPOILERS)

i love it when rpg maker games take the engine's capabilities and twist & bend them until they're unrecognizable, and DAMN i absolutely adore how this game presents everything!! the desktop interface is so cool, and it's super intuitive and easy to use (love how the icons you have to press are extremely clear). it's also really cool how consistent everything looks, even when different parts use different artstyles. the "squashed" look of the pixelart, the high contrast filters over all the irl pictures, the visual distortions whenever something spooky happens, the way chatboxes fill the entire screen... this game has an absolutely MASTERFUL use of presentation and not a single pixel looked out of place within the visual variety. and the sounds! the clicks, the music you can play on the desktop, the haunted garbled screams when horrific stuff happens... the audio landscape of this game is also impeccable on every level.

computer interface-based games are like catnip to me haha, and the way this game went about it was extremely well done! it really feels like going through a person's computer; random pics and emails, games, posts from your friends, options to customize the ui... all of it isn't necessary to finish the game, but it being there does wonders for immersion, and it's just fun to look through everything! especially the games, i was blown away with how expansive and cool they were! it's an astounding amount of effort for a side thing, and i respect the hell out of it :> but even with all this cool stuff to navigate through, i like how it's still easy to tell what you have to do to progress the story, so i didn't have to tiptop around all the apps to try to find all the secondary stuff and not accidentally move the plot forward haha.

speaking of the plot, i found it interesting! i like how diegetic it is; the way you learn the story through poking around, reading blog posts, and slowly putting the pieces together was super cool, and a really nice way to learn everything about the plot without feeling like i was being spoonfed information. the story itself definitely feels relevant to the jam's theme, and a stranger danger message is (unfortunately) always relevant.

my biggest issue with the game is that sometimes it feels like it kinda drags on. i appreciated how easy it is to tell what's necessary to do to advance the plot, but it also felt a bit repetitive to message all of lucy's friends and the conversations always going in the same direction. and i felt it especially with the last sequence; it drags out how evil this guy is for a bit too long, and not only did he felt exaggeratedly evil (i understand a story about the ghosts of victims haunting their killer wouldn't have realism as its main focus, but i think that aspect would've been even more impactful if the killer felt somewhat more believable), but it also felt like it went on for a tad too long, and didn't have a payoff satisfying enough to justify it (the hammer lodged in the guy's rectum was admitedly satisfying to read lol). i also found a glitch in the tomato game where, in the level with the blue walls, you walk up a wall that doesn't have its bottom portion, you can go inside it and get stuck out of bounds. but these issues didn't ruin my experience at all.

overall this is a fantastically made game that intrigued me from start to finish! it really shows your knack for horror presentation, subtle story reveals and unique gameplay sections, and i hope this game was as enjoyable to make as it was to play! :>

first time you has ever make me feel disturbed dossow, i'm proud of ya

Really enjoyed this game, I'm a big fan of the searching someone's PC style of game and really liked how unique this is (at least I've not played one with this outcome before).

This game was really creepy and THAT horror scene near the end was really well done.

Navigating and customizing Lucy's Desktop was also a pretty nice touch, and I had a lot of fun because of that.

Interacting with the other users was also very heartbreaking and made me hate the antagonist a lot.

The only thing I didn't like was the ending because it felt out of place in this story.

Maybe if there was some build up through the blogs, the e-mails, and the social media posts, it could have been a bit better.

!!SPOILERS!!

I don't think that the virus segments were enough to build that, personally.

They felt too random and too vague to lead to the ending where Lucy comes back as a vengeful entity.

Dear Mr. Dossow, I am a big fan of your games (from China). I like your games very much, but I hope you can adjust the volume a little. Sometimes my ears are always stimulated by sudden screams and tinnitus, I hope you can accept my advice. 😖

As a fan of over a year now I think this is some of A.V.'s best work, the overall mechanics and story were really scary and solid and the mini games (especially the mossy cyan door) were so fun and such a nice little detail. I was planning on writing this review before I even got to the final act after turning off the computer, this is truly a work of art and more than that a work of true talent. Keep up the good work!

I think this game is really good! Incredible quality with its sprite-work, music, and general atmosphere along with its aesthetic. The use of ye olden paintings instead of public/personal stock photos is also really cool! Great at creating a sense of dread throughout, even during supposedly "safe" areas. Though the dialogue from certain characters (especially the protagonist,) can come off as a bit cheesy--I think it's just charming enough to get away with it. With time I think you can totally improve upon it, if you ever wanna update the game post HGJ!! But for just being made by one person, I think this is very impressive. Good job!!! Hope to see more from you soon :)

I beg you balance screaming sounds, I put them all on 20% and still my ears hurt after all. Game is nice by the way.

Blessed Holiday season with  2 A.V Dossow games! I like this one, it's different but at the same time familiar; I am personally not a big fan of this type of game, tried a few of the 3D ones that are popular and did not click with me, this one on the other hand, I don't know if it's because it was made in RPGmaker, works much better for me.

This game definitely has big disturbing energy, specially in that one scene that I was really no expecting to take part of and it left quite a (good) impression on me.

What I think really adds a lot are the minigames and the last part when we get a switch on perspective, I honestly think that was the best decision possible for this game since I find some other games of this style drag the "investigation" part too long.

Great job as usual and Happy Holidays!

Thank you so much for the playthrough and the feedbak Moriko!

This is the first time I attempt to make a game like this (although I had already tried to simulate an operating system in A House 4 Alesa) so there's definitely a lot of room for improvement if I want to make another game with the same mechanics, but it was nonetheless pretty fun to make (I'm always amazed at how much you can do with a "limited" engine such as Rpg Maker just by using parallaxes, pictures and variables).

Happy holidays to you too!

The "failed to load pixi" message error has been fixed and the game should work fine now.

No problem

i need to replay this to find the other ending (i don't believe game developers ever /j) but this was a treat!

Did you get the ending by checking some of Lucy's photos or not?

very good

Bug: Lucy's post about sunsets forced me to click on the message twice to get out. Did you mean to write something else along the way?

(+1)

Thanks for letting me know!

You're welcome!

You saying that there isn't a super secret ending makes me think that there is a super secret ending ;) /j
